Madden 17 Wishlist

They had that option in one of the head coach games by EA. You could start with up to date rosters at preseason or at the offseason.

Other then the obvious CFM updates that need to be made which I posted in detail about some things on the first page. The biggest thing as far as gameplay that needs to be added is matchup options on defense.

For example I was playing 2k the other day in the finals and Steph Curry was lighting me up in the first quarter. So I called a timeout and changed it to double team at all times and max pressure. I went on to still lose the game but I was determined to make the other guys step up and make shots. You can't really do that kind of thing in madden. Another example I was talking on the phone with tigers before his week 16 game vs the lions. The just of the conversation was I told him he needs to make sure Calvin doesn't beat him. He said I know that that but how I can really stop him.

What I would I like to see if a option you can set before/during games where like every 3rd down you can double team a certain WR. Every 3rd and long you safety will automatically play the deep ball. Every 3rd and short your DL will automatically crash the middle. Have your #1 CB automatically cover there #1 WR regardless of where they line up.

Does that make sense?

majesty95 I like this idea but I wouldn't want it to start at the draft. I'd want it to start mid February after the Sb. That way you could attend the combine/pro days, and really get a feel for how you want to sculpt your team from the very beginning. How cool would it be to watch Goff throw, or Ramsey run DB drills? Much like you I've always been into building my team from the ground up. I'd also like to be the GM and not the owner. I want to make ALL personell decisions just like in money ball. I like in 2K where you have to answer to your owner every step of the way.

How funny about Tigers20 I taught him how sometimes when I'm in cover 1 and the SS is in that shallow zone I hot route him to man up on the number 1 making him doubled. That's how I was able to shut down Kelvin Benjamin in my first season.

See to me that kind of stuff pre play I always run out of time. They are a few thing I will do like pinch DL or put DB overtop. but I would like a option to have it set more advanced pre game . Because I have never double teamed anyone in m16

I was just trying to keep it simple lol. And practical. Guys like to jump right in. I think if the opening of the league was the draft podium that would be so cool. I just don't think they'd ever get the combine stuff right (or possibly even have time/room for it) so I was just thinking of an option they could add that I think would be a huge hit with people.

I still think the way you get back to 12M people buying this game is through franchise and CPU AI. I don't know many people that can play a solo franchise in Madden bc the CPU is so gawd awful and predictable. They do something like opening on draft night and combine that with more franchise features and vastly improved AI and this series can return to the mountain top of gaming. Hopefully they have those things in their priorities.

Contracts performance based instead of overall based would be nice

Yes! Not sure how difficult that is to program but definitely needed. Would be great to get s discount on an underperforming guy or have to pay big for a lower rates guy who puts up big numbers.

Perriman would be reasonably priced for what he can do and I could pay Eric Hill a cheap contract for a year or two

Yeah thats what i was thinking. The programming part would probably be tough. Wojld be nice to see us also to lace a contact with incentives. But i would assume that would be even tougher to program.

Yea NBA2k has a few options like that on contracts frontload, backload even. I believe you can go up to like 4.5%

In case you missed it, Clint Oldenberg said we will be getting about 27-30% of our wishlist in Madden 17. Now, that could just be tongue-in-cheek and having fun with us. But, I thought it would be fun to speculate on what that 27-30% might be based on our list.

Below is a list of every idea posted in this thread. Beside it in () is the number of times it was mentioned (if more than once). After that is my commentary on the likelihood of the idea possibly making its way into Madden 17 (or future iterations).

After I finished the list, I went back through and tried to figure out what our "27-30%" was in theory. There were 52 ideas listed. One of those I felt like was addressed in 17 so I highlighted that in red. That left 51 ideas with 14 right being 28% accurate. I highlighted the 14 things I found most likely for Madden 17 in orange.

What do you think? If these 14 things were the majority of what was updated in Madden 17, how would you feel about the game? Is there anything that we left off that you think they could surprise us with?

Update equipment (x7) - I think it is safe to say this will be included in some shape or form. Its often requested and probably not significantly resource intensive. It might not be perfect, but I bet equipment gets some love.
Custom player packages/formation subs x7 - I'm torn on this one but I'm leaning toward saying formation subs are coming this year. I'm not sure confident in that but I think its more likely than not.
Defensive match-ups (x5)
- Rex said last year that they were working on this and could not get it working right by launch of Madden 16. I'm about 99.7% sure we're getting this in Madden 17. Fingers and toes crossed!
Adaptive AI (x4)
- This is another one of those that is kind of ambiguous. I think we're going to see improvements in this area to some degree. I don't know if the AI will be as intuitive as we would like, but I think they'll address it some.
Return of superstar mode (x4) - As much as this is requested, I'm guessing we are still at least a year away from this. However, with the emphasis on new ways to play like Draft Champions, I would not be surprised by this either.
Weekly recap/highlight show (x3) - Still don't think we are there yet. Its coming soon, hopefully.
Asst coaches/coaching carousel (x3) - I would love to see assistant coaches and a carousel added. I'm not sure how confident I feel for this year though. I'm going to lean toward asst coaches being included, but just barely.
Practice squad (x3) - I probably feel more confident in this than assistant coaches but not super confident in either. Its coming though, eventually.
Improved blocking (x2) - Again, ambiguous and almost certainly addressed to some extent.
In-game highlights/scores from around the league x2
- Like weekly recaps, I don't think we are quite there yet. I don't think this type of stuff will be addressed until they get the gameplay where it needs to be. Hopefully 17 finally takes a major step so these type of things can come sooner than later.
Season story lines (x2) - I think we started to see this with the goal system. I do think they expand on this a little and update the commentary with some season-long statistical narratives. I don't think it will be very in-depth and probably not nearly as involved as we would like, but I think it will be touched on to some degree.
Classic teams (x2)
- Highly unlikely. Far more difficult in Madden than any other sport because of the size of the rosters and the multitude of licenses it would require. NBA kind of corners the market here and I'm not sure I see that changing any time soon.
Team builder/jersey creator (x2) - Highly unlikely. Would be cool and may be on the board for Madden 19 or 20 but probably no sooner.
Functioning draft board (CPU will select from) - They started working toward this last year so I would expect to see this beefed up a little more. I'm still not sure we will see a true draft board that the CPU will draft from if you are on auto, but I think its more plausible than many of the items listed above.
In-game depth chart changing
- Highly unlikely. I'm not even sure exactly how they would go about it. Unless he meant just changing the depth chart in game and having it stick out of game. That could be possible. Anything more complex I would think was unlikely.
Custom draft classes - They've spent so much time on randomizing the draft classes and adding storylines to the players that I think this is unlikely. It would be cool and would catch up to NBA in this respect, but I don't see it coming this year.
Update special teams - I know Rex had talked about wanting to work on special teams. I don't know if that meant it was not on the board for 17 or not though. I would expect some work on special teams, although maybe not to the degree most of us would like. A random blocked kick every once in a blue moon would be nice though.
Open field running animations/player animations - Again, another thing that will probably be touched on some but probably not significantly. They tend to refine these things more than overhaul them. Unless we are getting a new engine, I don't see significant changes being made here.
Running through arm tackles
- Same as above.
Create a play
- Not likely. This didn't even work that well on PS2 and that was infinitely easier to program for. I would like to see it return at some point but its a pipe dream mostly. If getting defensive match-ups right is a coding nightmare, I can only imagine what custom plays would entail.
Weather impacting game - I just had a snow game where my guys slipped all over the field. I may have needed a new TV and controller if it was any more impactful.
Home field advantage
- I would like to see this. It drives me crazy when your team comes out flat and your CPU opponent (or even user team) plays like their hair is on fire on your turf. With that being said, I don't know if I see this happening this year.
Fix and update super sim - Again, I don't think this is high on their list. However, they have acknowledged the sim stats and stuff like this needs work and have shown some inclination to improve it. Its not out of the realm of possibility but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Game ticker during games - I'm about 50/50. I could see it happening, especially since NCAA did it. But I kind of feel like it may be 18 before we really get to the detailed presentation. I wouldn't be surprised either way on this one.
45-man active roster
- Not likely. At some point, probably, but not for a year or two, at least. I think this will take significant coding to get the AI to follow this correctly and I just don't think its on their priority list right now.
Watch CPU vs CPU CFM games - I'm kind of 50/50 on this one too. I could see it happening but I can also see how many other things could be ahead of it. I'm not sure it would be super difficult to implement but just not sure it was on the vision board.
Private workouts - Not likely. I think they will continue to expand the draft and that whole experience, but working out individual players I just think is too far down the line. I can think of a handful of reasons why this would be a headache to implement and therefore not a likely addition.
TV style breakdown of Top 10 prospects - Again, I think we will see the draft expanded to some degree over the next year or two, but I don't know if it will ever get this in depth.
Have commish announce draft picks - There are so many possible names that I find it unlikely. I can't see Goddell sitting in a sound booth recording thousands of names so I'll say highly unlikely. However, having his role slightly expanded I could see. Just not sure in what capacity.
Player holdouts - Possible at some point but I don't know if we are there yet. This is a logic issue. I think it will take quite a bit of coding and testing and I think too many higher priority projects are ahead of it right now.
Former players become coaches - They've had this before (in PS3 I believe) so its possible at some point. I don't think it would be that hard as long as they have assistant coaches added. I don't know if they will add this the same year, but I suspect the year after it will. So no this year but maybe next year if assistant coaches debut on 17.
Updated team relocation - Relocation right now just kind of sucks. I just don;t know where it is on the list of things they want/need to improve. They may wait until they can do a Team Builder type thing with it. That's highly unlikely at this point so an improved relocation system probably is too.
Highest selling jerseys in news feed - Seems like a relatively minor thing that wouldn't be that hard to do. But its probably so minor and easy to do that it will get overlooked. I'd say not likely.
Retire player numbers - I would like to see this along with previously retired real life numbers and not having those numbers be available in game. But again, it presents logic issues. I don't think its as complex as many of the others on this list, but I think its probably significant enough that we won't see it for a year or two, if then.
Sportsbook allowing you to bet on games - Zero percent chance. The NFL tries to distance itself from gambling so I don't think they would ever approve this even if EA wanted to dedicate the resources to it, which I doubt they do.
Rebuilding, contending, selling, buying teams - Although those are really just two types of teams (rebuilding and contenting) I do think we need more focus on that from CPU teams. However, rebuilding in the NFL is nowhere near what it is in the NBA. There's so much parody in the NFL that most teams go into each off-season looking to compete the following year. But more styles between teams is needed. Just not sure its coming this soon. Maybe a year or two away.
Completely customizable CFM - Like MyLeague in NBA 2k16. Not likely at this point. I'm not even sure the NFL would allow it. Plus there aren't classic teams (and probably won't be) so I can't really see any kind of concerted effort to make CFM more "customizable".
Face scan - this will come with the return of Superstar mode I'm sure. But I think that will be Madden 18 at the earliest.
Multiple injuries on one play - Would be a nice feature but I don't know if a necessary one. I suspect the collision detection and injury logic that would have to go into this could be complex to be done right. I just don't think its likely unless it just happens to be easier than I think. Wouldn't expect it this year though.
MUT app - I can see this as a possibility this year. FIFA has it so Madden can't be far away. I'd be more inclined than not to think it is coming this year.
Full points if your opponent quits on MUT
- A nice idea. I know they are trying to penalize quitters more and remove some of the frustrations gamers feel in these games so I think its possible. Just don't know if its one of those that's so simple it gets overlooked.
Play future games out of schedule
- So this would kind of be like an open schedule in MLB The Show. I think its a cool idea and probably something that they need to consider with the way online leagues are growing. I just don't think we are quite there yet.
Coin toss - I think its somewhat likely that this returns in Madden 17. A lot of people questioned where it went. It is an added animation and takes processing power that could be used elsewhere, but I also think its something that could be brought back fairly easily. I'm up in the air on this one. At first I thought it was more likely than not but now I'm questioning that. I'll say no for at least one more year.
More on field emotion - again, ambiguous and sure to be touched on to some degree. Based on the early screen shot though with the posing and the altercations added this year, I think we will definitely see more in this area in Madden 17.
Better sideline and fan animations
- I think this will be worked on more but I'm not sure its coming this year. I think we are going to see a year when they gameplay needs only minor improvements (as early as Madden 18 hopefully) and then presentation will likely get a complete overhaul. Stuff like this is likely to be addressed then. I say Madden 18 or maybe Madden 19.
Better Madden website - You would think they would work on this every year but they just don;t so who knows. With DaddyLeagues being as big as it is, I'm not sure there's a huge push to dedicate resources to it either. So, I'll say not likely.
Ability to start as a coordinator - Not likely. Even if they add assistant coaches this year, I don't know if the ability to play as one will come with it. That's likely a year or two down the road as they'll have to figure out how to implement it and map the cameras and interactions with players and coaches. Too much work to be anytime soon I think. Most likely Madden 19 if its coming.
Scrimmage owners in CFM - Interesting feature but not sure they'll dedicate the time to it. I'm guessing it would work like play now but within a franchise. Sounds easy but I bet its far more complicated than we think. I'm going to say not likely for several years, if ever.
Off-field incidents - Another one of those things that I think the NFL controls more than EA. It would be cool to see and fun to have to navigate, but I'm not sure the NFL would allow anything we'd really care about. So I'll say not likely, ever.
Expanded commish controls - This is vague but I think we will see some movement in this area, I'm just not sure what.
Differentiation of wide and inside receivers
- Seems simple but far more complex than is worth coding I'm sure. The nuances most gamers don't care about. And getting it right to the hardcore fans will be next to impossible so I think we see them stick to what we have now. Weakside/strong side linebackers and boundary/field corners are more likely to me but I don't see that happening this year either.
Game day injury decisions - I hope this comes at some point but just don't see it quite yet.
Stats for scouting other teams - I really, really want to see player tendencies tracked and the ability to view and analyze that data. It would be huge in CFM. They've indicated some desire to give more of this kind of thing, just not sure we are quite there yet. Hopefully by Madden 18 but probably not this year.
Option to start CFM on draft day - Cool idea but not likely for a couple of years, if ever.
Performance based contracts vs OVR based - This is very much needed but again I think its a coding issue. Its far Easier to have the AI look at a singular rating and determine value. Trying to balance that with actual statistical performance is going to take some work. Maybe Madden 18 or 19, but probably not this year.
Front-loaded or back-loaded contracts - Same as above.

I think with Rex at the helm that things continue to go towards sim football especially with some of the tournaments looking somewhat embarrassing with the cheese players pull ... Hopefully this falls into the adaptive AI and getting that where it needs to be

I am also curious if the PS Neo or PS 4.5 will pull resources away from getting some of this stuff done?? Will we be playing Madden VR? Is that where the Superstar mode is going bcz I have a hunch that we will be thrust into the game via VR either this yr or next ... Heck maybe I should just get a jump on things now and turn my theater room into a football field!

In reference to MUT, they have to do something big there bcz it's a money maker now ... Definitely think an app should be coming as it would only rake in more money if done right

And they have to have some big teaser coming tomorrow in order to be on sportscenter which again brings me back to the whole VR thing ... But I've been wrong before lol

I think VR is such a new technology and probably takes years to get right so I think (and hope) that it's very far down their list. Very few people are going to invest the money in VR so I don't see them dedicating resources to this until its main stream. Then there will be tons of issues to work out. Personally, I could care less if VR and Madden ever co-exist. They are still a ways away from the console version being where it needs to be that VR should be light years away for them.
