Overall Offense Thoughts
The offense for the most part is set and there isn't a ton of hard decisions to make. Last year Michael Griffin was hurt and that allowed the team to put him on IR and save a roster spot. This year Its looking like the young guy with arguable the strongest arm in the NFL (98) will be cut. Aerion Gray has played better then his overall rating shows in 2 years because of 85 BCV and 92 trucking the team wants to keep him. Its looking like a battle for the 8th OL spot between Pearson Davis (71 ovr) and Zach Fulton (78 ovr). It will be a tough call do you cut the rookie 4th round pick or someone with 88 run block. Last year 7 WR''s was keep this year it looks to be a battle between the speed Chris Conley and former 3rd round pick Tevin Goode. Conley has mid 90's for all 3 speed ratings, 92 catch in traffic, and 97 jump and 6'3. While Goode is 6'4 with 97 jumping and still young enough to improve.

Overall Offense Thoughts

The team is looking to trade a OLB and DL as there is crazy depth at the position. That's why you saw the team have to adjust strategies away from BPA in rounds 2-5 even though they was higher guys ranked on the board then players the team drafted. Parks is 25 with 81 overall and his job is in jeopardy his biggest knock is his speed. While Flowers is fantastic athlete with 88 speed and 89 acceleration. There is room for both on the roster its just 8 LB's are not needed. You hate to cut a rookie that's 69 overall with 90 strength ad 86 block shedding that appears to be the case with Isaiah Mosley. I just don't think you can find room for all the quality DL on the final roster. Mario Edwards is another guy that's way to talented to cut at 26 with 84 overall and 90 block shedding. He would likely miss out over Mason who was a 2nd round pick last year and has more upside with similar 88 block shedding

Despite Record Titans Optimistic

With the way last years AFC championship ended there was a bit of a hangover for the titans. When the schedule came out and it opened with 3 super bowl contenders and even week 4 was the Bills who made the playoffs last year and is on track to do it again this year. Then 2 more major games in week 6 and 7 made for a brutal schedule to start off with.

The titans held a 7 point lead midway through the 4th quarter against the 2 time defending super bowl champion Browns. Titans ended up losing the game in large part because Trett Franklin made the play of the year on a 79 yard streak route. The mistake the titans made was they let that loss linger on and it went on to cost them the next 2 games against the Packers and Steelers. The packers game saw the titans lose the turnover battle by 3. Then the Steelers game saw the defense staff get frustrated when it couldn't stop the short passing game.

The titans didn't play perfect the next 2 games still back to back easy wins over the Bills and Ravens was enough to get the titans back mentally on the right path. A finish for the ages happened week 6 against the colts and that put the titans in the drivers seat for the south. This week despite a loss to the bears the team played one of its best game of the year having to adjust strategy on the fly just came up a little short at the end.

One area the defense is going to have to get better at is defending people that aren't the #1 and #2 WR. In week 1 the browns starting #1 and #2 WR's combined for only 2 catches for 23 yards. While Franklin had 102 yards and then CJ Anderson added 41. In week 2 TE Tyrone Duncan lead the way for the packers with 5 catches for 89 yards. Jeffery and White was held to a combined 1 catch for 19 yards. While Binns had 4 catches for 171 yards and then Latimore added 28.

Looking ahead to the schedule there is only 1 game where the titans will not be heavy favorites. That is against the colts which isn't a must win for the titans since the colts already have 2 division losses. So even if the titans lose that game and then get upset by 1 CPU team that will make them 10-6 and should be enough to atleast get a wildcard spot. The colts still have major games to play vs Browns, Bears, Steelers and Packers.

No Sophomore Slump for Gilbert

Everyone should know the back story by now on starting QB Garet Gilbert. The projected 4th round pick was taken in the 1st round. He went on to be the run away rookie of the year. He also went on to lead the NFL in QB rating and was also in the MVP discussion. He is the fastest and most accurate QB in the NFL.

This year he had two goals to improve his deep accuracy and play action. His deep accuracy rating is currently up to 84 while his play action is 94. Being able to improve the play action game was very important as it goes hand and hand with having the best run game in the NFL. That currently gives him the highest play action rating in the NFL which was a huge jump up from his rookie year which saw it in the 60's.

The Green Bay game was a awful and the worst game of his career he went 8 of 23 for 79 yards, 0 TD and 3 interceptions. After the game the coaching staff took full blame saying it called bad plays and forced to many passes down the field.

All you can ask for a young player is to learn from him mistakes and improve on them and that has been the case since the Green Bay game for Gilbert. The 4 games after that he has 5 TD's and 0 interceptions. One thing he isn't doing as much of this year is running where he only has 5 attempts all year. In this past game against the Bears when the game plan had to be changed on the fly. He didn't throw a interception on 27 attempts which included a absolute beautiful corner route to tie the game late. Last year he completed 69 % of his passes and this year the coaching staff has called more deep passes and that that has dropped to 59%. This is a combination of having a deep threat in Ben Hall plus as we mentioned earlier much improved deep accuracy,

The titans have yet to have a WR reach over 1,000 yards in the previous 5 years under this ownership. This could finally be the year that happens with Kennan Allen on pace for 1,010 yards.

One of the questions facing the titans this was what Speedy #2 WR Ben Hall would bring to this offense. He has lived up to the max deal he got also showing off his route running skills. Hall could also join that mix also as he is on pace for around 800 yards and also leads the team in TD's.

This year why the stats aren't as pretty as last year mostly because of the 1 bad game he had. They are subtle changes that Griffin has added to his game that makes this offense less one dimensional and better for the long haul. It will be exciting to see how Griffin does the 2nd half of the year with a schedule taylor made for him to win games and make plays.

Is Rookie WR Cole the answer at slot WR ?

The Titans took Gordon Cole with the 30th pick in the 2nd round this year. At first the front office was bummed out that his overall rating was only a 67. It later came out that the eagles was planning on taking him with the next pick. Also that the original target at WR was taken just before the titans by a owner who is no longer in the league. That WR ended up having the highest rating at the WR position of all the rookies.

A closer look at Cole's rating showed he could still play despite the low overall. He was 80 + in the 3 catch ratings and he had the 6'4 236 pound size that the team likes. His 90 speed showed he was faster then most WR his size. The biggest knock on him was his route running and has worked on that got that up to a 70. Cole also played really well in the preseason.

The Titans have done slot WR by committee with the 2 other guys earning time as the #3 Phillip Dorsett and DJ Robinson. DJ has seen the majority of the playing time with 151 yards on 7 catches. Cole got 1 start earlier in the year and had 1 catch for 20 yards. He got his 2nd start of the year against the Bengals and he played great leading the team in yards this past week. He had 3 catches for 73 yards catching passes on 3 different routes.

Everyone knows by now the titans don't use a lot of 3 WR sets so the slot WR isn't a huge part to the offense. Tonight the spotlight will be on the Colts vs Titans game as majesty95 and JerseyBorn call the game in live play by play. Cole may only make 1 or 2 catches tonight, but he has a chance to make a name for himself and earn the slot job for the rest of the year.

Just wanted to say, I REALLY enjoyed this and it's given me a LOT of inspiration to do something similar for my team in '17 for the league.

Thank you for putting in the hard work to do these. I know from past experience doing something similar in NCAA, it can be a LOT of work.
