2018 FA Recap
Overall Thoughts
When you read over the list you will quickly see what the strategy was for the titans this year. They are known to be one of the most physical teams in all of the NFL. So they went after a lot of speed guys to help round out the roster. You will also notice not a lot of high overall ratings and big names. So with pretty much all of the starting lineup set the GM went with players to fill rolls to add depth at every position. Also they didn't want to overspend for anyone and will have plenty of cap space going forward.
Darrin Waller - 71 overall
This is the guy that the twitter world is buzzing over after spending the last few years on the Lions bench. He is a height-weight-speed monster for a TE at 6'6 and 240 pounds with 90 speed, 90 acceleration, 84 agility and 87 jumping. He has major work to do in area's like blocking and route running. His catching at 77 could also be improved on but he does have some skills with over 80 in catch and traffic and special catch.
Dan Kilgore - 80 overall
Carl Nicks retired so a versatile backup center/guard was needed to fill his spot and this 30 year old is a perfect fit for that role. He has 90 run blocking and 89 strength at this stage of his career he will not improve much. But if one of the interior guys gets hurt he should be able to fit right in with the run first strength of the titans
Zach Fulton - 78 overall
Here is a guy we was surprised no other user teams had a bid on for since he is only 26 years old. He is a good all round lineman with mid 80's for both run blocking, pass blocking and strength. It will be tough for him to see the field with the starting unit all back and Kilgore likely getting the call ahead of him. But the main thing this does is set your OL regular season roster and allow you not to focus on that come draft time.
Cordarrelle Patterson - 77 overall
He is a former 1st round draft bust but at ony 27 still has a chance to be a role player due to one thing and that is speed. He also adds some some size to this unit at 6'2 220 pounds while he will never be a all around WR he has some interesting traits to work with 90 speed, 97 agility, 90 acceleration, 95 elusiveness, 92 spin move, 93 jumping, 96 ball carry vision, 97 juke move, and 94 kick return. The bad news his catching skills are just awful and at this stage it will be hard for him to improve on those. He will likely be used as a special teams guy and on plays like streaks and screens.
WR Cassidy Reeves - 57 overall
He does have 81 catch but after that the wheels quickly fall off on his receiving skills as the others are beyond terrible. But at 5'8 173 pounds he was signed to see if he can make a impact on special teams. He has 95 speed, 95 acceleration, 91 kick return but suffers from agility being only a 86. His spot on the final roster is far from a lock with the late signing of Patterson .
WR Paul Richardson - 74 overall
If we said a WR was a FA that last year had 60 catches for 1,004 yards and 10 TD while being only 26 years old. That player also had the following ratings 94 speed, 92 acceleration, 88 agility, 88 catch, 84 route running, 90 jumping and 82 catch in traffic. You would prob assume we are talking about a elite FA with lots of offers. Instead we are talking about no name Paul Richardson who is somehow only a 74 overall. We have no clue how the WR group will shakeout but its going to be very fun to watch and write about.
DE Kyle Van Noy - 80 overall
The former high 2nd round pick is currently 27 years old and with 1 point improvement in his block shedding his overall went up 2 points. He is a bit undersized at 6'3 252, but with good speed and 82 tackle and 84 power moves he will be just fine as a backup DE.
DE/OLB Marcus Tull - 68 overall
At 6'3 260 pounds he could play either DE or LB and his overall will not change much. He has some interesting tools to work with like mid 80's in all 3 speeds, power moves and hit power. With his 35 awareness we aren't sure if he even knows what side of the ball to line up on. One of the reasons we think he could make the move to DE is we don't think the awareness will bother him as much as it would at LB. His 64 block shedding also needs major work. But if the 35 awareness was double his overall would easily be in the 80's. He will have to fight to make the roster
DT Bill Winn - 75 overall
He is veteran 29 year big guy at 6'4 old 300 pounds who is solid across the board. He will likely play a handful of snaps a game with the 2nd unit unless a rookie is drafted.
DT Terrence Cody - 71 overall
Everyone knows Mt. Cody is a 34 nose so it may have raised some eyebrows when he was signed by the 43 titans. He is currently 6'4 349 pounds and might be slowest guy in the NFL with 45 speed. But he has 2 key traits that will make him a good at stopping the run and that's 97 strength and 90 block shedding. He will be used in goaline sets and in obvious run downs.
OLB Marquis Flowers - 78 overall
This is another player I was shocked to get without any other bids and to be able to wrap him up early. He is still just 26 and has the size also at 6'3 250. He is a speedy cover 2 LB with 88 speed, 85 agility, 89 acceleration, 81 pursuit. His overall is brought down by his 59 awareness and 65 play recognition also his tackling is only 77. Another thing he brings to the table is a 77 zone coverage rating.
MLB Javonte France - 62 overall
Another low risk signing was France who currently is the #2 MLB but some shuffling will happen even if a MLB isn't drafted. He has a few key traits we liked like 83 speed, 90 acceleration, 81 tackle and 81 pursuit. We know his overall will likely go up if he is moved to OLB but right now we need him more at MLB.
CB Pierre Desir - 74 overall
The titans was hoping to land it big in the CB market but the price tag for the elite guys was just to high. Instead another cap friendly deal was brought in for a guy that we feel can start at nickel despite his low overall rating. He has amazing size at 6'2 206 pounds makes him able to cover all the bigger WR's. He also has some very nice traits with 88 speed, 90 agility, 92 acceleration, 86 press, 82 mcv and 86 zcv.
FS Marqueston Huff - 83 overall
He has spent the last 4 years as a backup safety and he thought he would test FA and be able to land a starting job. We also thought that since he has 89 speed, 85 agility, 91 acceleration and 86 zone coverage all while only be 26. But when no other teams was interested he came back home to the titans
SS/FS Chris Cook - 83 ovr
When it looked like Huff was leaving a backup FS needed to be had so Cook was the target as both starting spots are still locked down. He still has solid speed despite being 31 years old and his 88 zone coverage was a key reason he was signed. When Huff was unexpectly brought back he was told he would likely shift over to SS battling with 25 year old Layne Sam (71 ovr) for the backup job.
K Jordan Gay - 69 overall
With his 95 kick power he has one of the stronger legs in the NFL so all of his xp will go to improve on his 84 accuracy. He is also only 28 years old
P Jordan Berry - 70 overall
His awareness makes his overall low but he has 90 power and 95 accuracy and is only 27 years old
