By trading Cecil Fielder to the Mets, Detroit can shed 9.2mil/yr over this year and next while the Mets get a 1B to fit in and start immediately. The Mets also get a LF who can platoon with Alex Ochoa after the Gregg Jefferies injury that occurred recently. The Tigers get a young 5 pitch starter who is thrashing AAA at 21 + minors depth.

I approve. Detroit is basically trying to dump Fielder's salary. They offered a prospect along with him to get him off the books. Atwater could possible be a back of the rotation starter so they do get a little in return.
