MADDEN 17 KANSAS CITY CHIEFS NEWS

There is a new chapter beginning in Kansas City for madden 17 as the Chiefs gain new ownership.

The franchise has been awarded to me and I would like to thank the league brass for the opportunity to manage this storied franchise that dates back to the AFL days.

I have big shoes to fill following former owner JerseyBorn who has moved on to Tampa Bay for Madden 17. I would like to personally thank JerseyBorn for his work here in KC molding a work ethic and team chemistry that I will strive to continue with as we head forward into 2017.

We have a talented squad in place and are not that far away from the big stage. We have started our evaluations of our players and are excited for the beginning of the new season.

There will be more information coming as we head into camp and the opening day roster takes shape.

Round 2, Pick No. 37:Chris Jones, DT, Mississippi State
Junior Galette 002.png
Drafting Chris Jones with the 2nd pick the Chiefs now have some insurance in case Poe becomes a free agent after the season. Jones is big (6'6" 308) and will most likely be used in rotation with Poe and Howard. It is doubtful he will crack the starting lineup before camp ends but he will be pushing Poe for the starting job.

Round 3, Pick No. 59:KeiVarae Russell, CB, Notre Dame

Kansas City Chiefs Draft Rounds 5-6
Round 5, Pick No. 162:Kevin Hogan, QB, Stanford

Kevin Hogan.png
Hogan is a talented QB who started at Stanford. He won 36 games out of the 46 games he played in at Stanford and will most likely win the 3rd string QB job this season pushing either Bray or Murray out of a spot on the opening day roster.
notable attributes acceleration 84,throw power 86,throw on the run 82,

Round 5, Pick No. 165:Tyreek Hill, WR, West Alabama
Tyreek Hill.png
Hill also comes with some baggage from his college days transferring to West Alabama from Oklahoma State after a domestic situation led to his dismissal from the Cowboys program. He has dynamic kick return skills and has been compared to Devin Hester. With the domestic issues behind him he will probably make this Chiefs team as their return specialist.

The team has released it's 2nd depth chart today. There are some interesting battles taking shape . The Chiefs may roll with 4 QB's this season with Aaron Murray and Tyler Bray competing for the 4th spot.
The Chiefs and 49ers completed a trade yesterday in the real NFL that sends CB Kenneth Acker to KC. He will be in the next roster update so his position in the depth chart is reflected here as well.

Chiefs aquire Luke Bowanko
luke bowanko.jpg
The Chiefs were looking to upgrade their OL and they did just that when they dealt WR Albert Wilson and their 5th round pick in the upcoming draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars for Luke Bowanko, a versatille Guard/Center who played both guard positions at the University of Virginia.
Bowanko is big 6'6" 310 and is very agile for his size. The addition of Bowanko gives the Chiefs some options along the offensive line . As for now Bowanko will start at RG but a move to center could come in the future.

Chiefs vs rams.jpg
Rams fall to the Chiefs 28-21 in a return to Los Angeles
The Chiefs made their first roadtrip of the season to Los Angeles to face the Rams in week 2 of the pre-season. The Rams are back in Los Angeles and the game was played on a beautiful evening at the LA colosseum. The first team offense and defense looked good and sound except for the kicking game. Santos missed 2 field goals and 2 extra points. Notable standouts from the game were Nick Foles who completed 8 out of 15 passes for 173 yards with 2 td's and 1 interception. Smith played a few series and was 3 for 7 for 58 yds.
Newly signed HB Joique Bell impressed the coaches with 63 yards on 8 carries and a TD.
Charcandrick West added 62 yards on 5 carries.
Demarcus Robinson continues his push for the # 2 WR spot grabbing 4 balls for 68 yards
Defensively Steven Nelson solidified a spot on the final roster psting up 5 tackles 1 interception and 1 forced fumble. Keivarae Russell the rookie out of Notre Dame had another solid outing as well posting up 4 tackles and Dee Ford had a pick at the right outside linebacker position. The defense had 9 tackles for loss in the game and continue to improve.
The Chiefs had a good lead midway into the 4th quarter up 21-7 until the Rams made it interesting putting up 2 TD's late. The Chiefs would add 1 td themselves to keep the game just out of reach .

ROUGH START IN KC

Kansas City - Sept 2, 2016
The Chiefs opened the season with a division matchup at home vs the San Diego Chargers. The team thought they had a good game plan in place to limit the success Woodhead,Rivers, and Gates but it just did not fall into place as the Chargers left Arrowhead with a sound 39-15 victory.
The Chargers would go up 10-0 in the first quarter on a 19 yard FG and a blocked punt return TD. Dwight Lowery was able to get the edge and block the punt and it was scooped up by Kyle Emanuel who returned it 34 yards for the TD and a 10-0 Chargers lead and the Cheifs would never recover from a bad start. The Chiefs would add 9 points in the 2nd quarter when Smith hooked up with Maclin on a really nice 51 yard TD.
The half would come to a end with San Diego holding a 17-9 lead.

Andy Reid was not at all happy with his teams performance in the first half and a fiery speech was given to the team , but it only worked for 1 quarter as the defense would not surrender any points in the 3rd quarter, but the offense also could not score due to a missed FG.

The Chiefs would succomb in the 4th quarter giving up 22 points and the game was lost there. Jamaal Charles found the endzone to close the gap midway into the 4th quarter but offensive and special teams mistakes cost the team in this one.

After the game Andy R
eid met with the media and had these takes from the game.
Offensively we are not yet executing. There were plenty of missed blocks and errant throws by our QB.
Defensively we couldn't control the line of scrimmage and let their running back get loose on a couple of occasions on big plays.
Once again special teams were a disaster with a missed FG and 2 missed extra points leaving 5 points on the field. This area of our game has to be fixed immediately or it is going to be a long season here .
The team did suffer a injury with our rookie WR Tyreek Hill lost for 7 weeks with a upper arm fracture. Knile Davis and De'Anthony Thomas will now handle kickoff and punt returns until Hill returns.

Top performers for the game were on offense:
QB Alex Smith who went 21-33 for 273 yds and a TD and 2 picks.
Jamaal Charles had 60 yards on 18 carries finding little cracks to run into as the Chargers dominated up front.
Streeter and Maclin would combine for 10 catches. Demarcus Robinson showed us his potential grabbing 2 passes for 36 yards.

20160904_063548.jpg
Defensively Eric Berry led the team with 10 tackles, with Houston ,Bailey, and Parker also active on the defensive side. The DL was able to get penetration making 5 tackles for loss but were unable to get to Rivers.
The Chiefs will now put this one behind them and get ready for the Texans next week in Houston.

KC stifles Houston and comes away with a 24-12 victory
Houston, Texas 9/5/15

The Chiefs were in Houston to take on JJ Watt and the Houston Texans in the home opener for the Texans.
The Chiefs were in a foul mood all week after getting embarrased at home in a division game on opening day and were determined to come away with a win this week.
Coach Reid had the team in prolonged practices all week to correct the errors that led to the loss last week. THe Chiefs defense was the story of this game playing a bend but dont break style allowing Osweiller to get close and then confuse him into making mistakes in the red zone. The gameplan worked to perfection as the Chiefs picked Brock 3 times inside the redzone in the first half and had a total of 6 interceptions on the day. THe Chiefs took the opening kick and moved down inside the 10 yard line but suffered a turnover of their own as Smith threw a pick deep in the endzone .Houston would go on to take a 3-0 lead and that lead would stand until halftime.
KC would take the lead midway through the 3rd quarter when Smith found Maclin for a 32 yard td.
Houston would go on to get another FG to make it a 7-6 game after 3 quarters.
The Chiefs would put together another long drive early in the 4th quarter but it bogged down and the team settled on a 23 yard Santos fg to make it 10-6. Kansas city would get 2 more picks in the 4th quarter with the big one a pick 6 by eric Berry to make it 17-6.
Houston would score with just over 2 minutes left to close it to 17-12. The 2 point Texans conversion was unsuccesful but the Texans had timeouts to work with. The ensuing onsides kick was recovered by KC and with the Texans having timeouts left were forced to get a first down or 2 . They were able to get a td that sealed the game after Knile Davis took a handoff and went 41 yards to the house to make to 24-12 and the Chiefs would get a much needed early season win and evened their record at 1-1.

Takes from the game;
OFFENSIVE LEADERS:
Alex Smith 9/23 for 227 with 1 td and 2 int
Jamal Charles 10 rushes for 52 yards
Jeremy Maclin 4 catches 86 yards 1 td
De'Anthony Thomas 1 catch for 73 yards
DEFENSIVE LEADERS
Ron Parker 10 tackles 1 tackle for loss 1 interception
Eric Berry 7 tackles and 2 interceptions
Justin Houston 6 tackles 1 interception

Derrick Johnson 8 tackles 2 tackles for loss and 1 interception
SPECIAL TEAMS
Cairo Santos 1 FG and 3 for 3 on extra points

We had a chance to talk to coach Reid after the game and we had these comments from the coach.

"We had a spirited week of practice working especially hard on special teams. I am proud of the effort our team put forth today , especially the defense. the gameplan we had in place to force Brock into some bad decisions kin the red zone worked as planned. The offensive line did a tremendous job of neutralizing JJ Watt and we were able to keep Alex off his back.
Alex played a little better overall this week and was much more relaxed in the pocket. we miss Tyreek , but other guys are stepping up and contributing on offense.
Special teams were the most improved aspect of our game this week. Carlos has been working hard to correct the issues that have been plaquing him these last 2 weeks. He was making FG from 57 yards consistently all week and I know he has the ability to do it".
The team came out of the game injury free and staying healthy will determine a lot this season with this young Chiefs team.

The Chiefs will face the Jets next week in Arrowhead.

Kansas City 19 Oakland 3
Chiefs at Raiders 2.png
Oakland, Ca 9/15/16

The Chiefs (3-1) and Raiders(0-5) meet for the first time in the 2016 season. Although the Raiders are having a tough start this season the records go out the window in this AFC west division rivalry game. The Chiefs would use a dominating defensive performance allowing only 3 points and even more impressive was the run defense holding the Raiders to negative 14 yards rushing . The Raiders were in the red zone 2 times in the first half only to come away with 3 points.

On offense the Chiefs did just enough to secure a win as Alex Smith found Jeremy Maclin wide open for a long TD pass early on and that seemed to fire up the team and get them rolling in this one. The Chiefs would go to the locker room at the half up 19-3 and that score would hold up as the teams battled to a 0-0 draw in the 2nd half.

Alex Smith was 12/20 for 187 yds 2 tds and 1 int. Jamaal Charles led the way on the ground rushing 14 times for 77 yards and Maclin led the recieving corp with 5 catches for 115 yds and a TD.

Eric Berry led the defensive effort with 7 tackles. Alan Bailey continued his impressive play with 4 tackles in the game with 3 for losses.
The defensive had 4 interceptions on the day with Phillip Gaines getting 2 interceptions and marcus Cooper had a pick 6.

Coach Reid had these takes from the game:
"overall the team gave a great effort today and I am pleased with the performance with offense and defense , but the kicking game has reverted once again and was just atrocious. This phase of our game has to be corrected. This team has been able to overcome the deficiency in the kicking game , but this will cost us games if not fixed and we will be working hard to improve here.

Once again the injury bug has bit us and this time hard as Alex Smith went down with about four and a half minutes left in the game and he will be sidelined for about 8 weeks with a broken collarbone. We still have 5 players on the shelf and will begin to get some of those back soon".

The Chiefs improved to 4-1 and a first place tie in the AFC west while Oakland drops to 0-6. The Chiefs will get back to work Tuesday preparing to go to New Orleans and a tough matchup with one of the top 5 defenses in the PX1 VIP league.
Highlights from the game:

CHIEFS CLAIM TOP SPOT IN THE AFC WEST
Kansas City 19 New Orleans 14
Kansas City 9/16/16

The Chiefs (4-1) and Saints (2-3) squared off today at sold out Arrowhead. The Chiefs came into todays game minus 2 starting wideouts and Alex Smith on the bench with a broken collarbone facing a top 5 ranked defense of the Saints. Coach Reid knew this was going to be a tough task and the team needed to play almost mistake free ball to have any success today.
Nick Foles would get the start today and the Chiefs would drive down into the red zone on their first possession as Foles looked sharp. But the drive bogged down and the FG attempt was wide left . The defense was playing well and turned the tide when Marcus Peters jumped a Brees pass and it was pick 6 time for the second week in a row as the Chiefs would take a 7-0 lead. The Saints would go on to score 14 unanswered points and the teams headed to halftime with New Orleans holding a 14-7 advantage. The 3rd period was scoreless so it was 4th quarter time and the Chiefs stepped it up big time scoring 2 4th quarter Knile Davis TD's and the defense made a few sacks and caused a couple of turnovers and that would seal the day for KC as they headed home 19-14 winners.

Coach Reid had these comments about todays game

" Overall the team played well in adverse circumstances. Foles stepped in and made some good throws and he kept us in position to do some good things. The defense has continued to improve and they had 5 tackles for loss 5 sacks 10 pressures , 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles and a pick 6 by Marcus Peters. It was a day when backups stepped in and did their jobs. We were able to get Kevin Hogan some snaps and got Knile Davis involved in the game in the 4th quarter which in my opinion turned the game in our favor today.
Kevin has continued to improve in practice all season and I felt he was ready to step in during the 4th quarter and do what we feel he can do well at this point. The kicking game once again is a sore spot as we missed 3 field goals today and 1 extra point leaving 10 points on the field. This is disturbing to me and once again Santos will be taking a lot of extra reps to get this corrected.
On the injury side of things Marcus Peters went out in the 3rd quarter with a injury that doesn't appear to be of any concern at this time. We will be getting back De'Anthony Thomas and Tyreek Hill this week and Chris Conley and Eric Fisher will be back at practice in a couple of weeks".

Team leaders on the day are :
Offense:
Nick Foles 10/17 107 yds with 0 td and 2 int
Kevin Hogan 3/4 58 yds 1 td and 0 int
Knile Davis 8 rushes for 31 yards and 1 td on the ground 1 td through the air
Jeremy Maclin 3 rec 29 yds
9 different reciever targets
DEFENSE:
Justin Houstin 8 tackles, 1tackle for loss, 2 sacks,1 forced fumble
Allen Bailey 2 tackles, 2 sacks , 1 fumble recovery
Jay Howard 3 tackles , 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack , 1 forced fumble
Marcus Peters 1 tackle, 2 interceptions with 1 of those a pick 6
The Chiefs move into sole possession of first place in the AFC west at 5-1 while New Orleans falls to 2-4 .
The Chiefs will head to Indianapolis to take on the Colts next week. The Colts are ranked 8th in the league in total offense and 4th in the league in rushing offense.
This will be a tough challenge for this Chiefs team .

Highlights from todays game:

KC wins in a wild finish 33-27CHIEFS AT COLTS 2.png
Indianapolis, In 9/19/16

The Chiefs (5-1) and winners of 5 straight met the Colts (3-4) at Lucas Oil Stadium for a week 8 matchup and Nick Foles would get the start for the 2nd week in a row. The Chiefs defense was firing on all cylinders this week harassing Luck, which would go down with a injury in the 1st quarter and Scott Tolzien all day getting 9 sacks, numerous pressures timely big plays on defense to overcome a 21-3 third quarter deficit and defeat the Colts. The Chiefs would grab a 3-0 lead and that would hold through the 1st quarter, but the Colts would score midway through the 2nd quarter and took a 7-3 advantage to the locker room at half.
The Chiefs appeared to be in a slumber when Marcus Cooper would lay a lick on Tolzien and strip the ball. Josh Mauga picked up the rock and raced 23 yards to the promise land and that woke up this Chiefs team and they would go on to put up 30 second half points. The Colts scored with about 23 seconds left in regulation giving the Colts a 27-25 lead and they appeared on the verge of snapping Kansas City's 5 game win streak, but Knile Davis had other intentions. Davis took the ensuing kickoff and took it back 97 yards for a TD and Kansas City stunned the Colts and fans.

Coach Andy Reid was a little late getting to his post game press conference as the team celebrated in the locker room.
Coach had these takes from todays game.
" Well, it's never easy in this league to go on the road and win, but this team is showing that it just will not quit and willed their way to win this week.
This was a total team effort sparked by our defense which set the tone from the first quarter on. Jaye Howard just refused to be blocked and picked up 4 sacks and Marcus Cooper added 2 sacks and forced a fumble that was recovered for a TD.
Nick Foles stepped in again and got us into position to take advantage on some mismatches we had on offense today. Kevin Hogan came in again for his package we had for him and was solid.
Our recieving corp did a nice job getting open and the kicking game came around today in a much improved effort. I do have concerns about once again starting slowly and we will work to correct that going forward. We will get back to work Tuesday preparing for a huge test against the Jaguars. They have loads of talent and this will be our toughest test so far this season.

Leaders for the week :

Offense
Nick Foles 11/21 187 0TD 2 INT
Jamaal Charles 13 rushes 43 yards and 1 rushing td
Jeremy Maclin 5 rec 85 yds

Defense:
Jaye Howard 10 tackles 4 sacks
Marcus Cooper 7 tackles 2 sacks 1 forced fumble

The Chiefs move to 6-1 with the win while Indianapolis drops to 3-5.The Chiefs have reeled off 6 straight wins and they are tied with the Titans (6 straight wins) as the hottest teams in the vip league.
