Redskins Announce Stunning Coaching Change; Already Have New Coaching Candidate
By Rich Tandler | January 3rd, 2016

With the Super Bowl coming to an end, the darkest week of the NFL started once again and with numerous changes
expected to happen today, Black Monday as it's regularly called by the media, started with a shocking coaching change for the Washington Redskins.

General Manager Scot McCloughan and Team President Bruce Allen have apparently decided that after just two seasons, Jay Gruden, brother of ESPN analyst Jon Gruden, is no longer the coach for the Washington Redskins with a press conference at 12:01am this morning announcing the decision.

Having not taken long to find a replacement, the Redskins announced 10 minutes ago that they have hired Jonathan O'Connor, vaunted college coach, who, for the last four years, has been taking the NCAA by storm with his power run game pro style offense at Saint Augustus Monarchs, including back to back National Championships in the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons before regressing in the 2015-2016 season. O'Connor will be the 30th coach hired by the Redskins.

Redskins' Team President Bruce Allen had this to say about the coaching decision:

We really wanted to bring someone in that can give our roster the best chance to win. We're grateful for what Jay [Gruden] did for our group with the run to the playoffs last year, but we expect more. Getting Jonathan [O'Connor] was a big acquisition for us because he's been huge in his pro style offense in the NCAA, influencing other coaches to go back towards that style of offense more than what we've been seeing with the spread offense, and we think him leading our bunch will be a big addition.

Redskins haven't announced any other coaching changes and anonymous inside sources have confirmed that it doesn't appear that any other changes will be made to the coaches. Redskins nation waits to see if this change is truly for the best. Only time will tell. Check back as more information comes to light.
