Redskins Make Roster Moves

By Rich Tandler | August 13th, 2016

Wasting little time, the Redskins made three signings following their Preseason Week 1 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

First up, they signed veteran linebacker Stephen Tulloch

Tulloch was drafted in the 4th Round of the 2006 NFL draft by the Tennessee Titans. Coming out of NC State, Tulloch wasn't given much of a chance to perform on the field for the Titans until his third season in the league, but when he was given the opportunity, he made the most of it, recording 365 tackles in his final three seasons with the Titans. Then, he was cut by the Titans and signed onto the Lions. There he continued to perform well, amassing 485 tackles in his 5 seasons with the team, one of which was cut to only 3 games after a season ending ACL injury.

Next up, the Redskins signed center Joe Madsen.

Madsen went undrafted in the 2013 NFL draft. He signed as an undrafted free agent to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but didn't stay on the roster past the practice squad. Madsen has continued to bounce around the league but the Redskins appear to have picked him up to be their anchor at the center position from all reports.

Finally, the Redskins signed corner Kendall James.

James was drafted in the 6th round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Minnesota Vikings. Unfortunately, James has yet to see more than practice squad time with any team in the league, having bounced around numerous teams. Having signed what's called a futures deal (meaning, he's signed for a season that's not yet begun and usually reserved for practice squad or camp bodies), it's not likely that James will be on the final 53 man roster, though reports say that the Redskins signed him for his speed and coverage abilities so only time will tell.

Redskins still have three spots open on their 70 man roster for the week, so expect to see more moves happen before the cut deadline.
