Week 1 vs Lions

In week 1 the Ravens traveled to Detroit to take on the Lions. But it only seemed like one team actually showed up. The Ravens thoroughly handled the Lions 63-27. It seemed like Theo Riddick was the only Lion that came to play. He finished with 183 total yards and 2 TDS. One on the ground and the other on a reception. But other than him it was all Baltimore.

The Ravens scored on almost every way possible. The Ravens had 2 defensive TDS. One came on a Jimmy Smith pick 6 and the other was a CJ Mosley fumble return. The Ravens defensively picked up right where they left off last year. They forced 4 turnovers and sacked QB Matt Stafford 2 times. They allowed 398 total yards but the majority of that was when the game was already out of hand. Eric Weddle once again played great as he finished with 12 tackles, 1 TFL, and he also forced a fumble.

The Ravens offense looked as good as we have ever seen. They racked up almost 500 total yards. QB Joe Flacco didn't have to throw the ball very much. But when he did, he was about as perfect as you could hope for. He finished this game with a rating of 157.0. He ended up 15-16 for 195 yards, with 3 TDS and 0 INTs. Off season free agent pickup, Markus Wheaton had 2 of the TDS and TE Crockett Gillmore hauled in the other. But with the early lead due to the defensive TDS, most of the damage was done on the ground. They had 2 backs top 100 yards and another back with over 50 yards. Led by a breakout game from rookie RB Treveon Afalava, who finished with 134 yards and 3 TDS on just 7 carries. This kid looks like a possible future star in this league. The other back that topped 100 yards was starting RB Buck Allen. He finished with 105 yards and 1 TD on 12 carries. Kenneth Dixon also had 10 carries for 53 yards.

If the Ravens continue to play this way, you could very well see them in the AFC title game just like last season. But it's a long season and anything can happen. But the Ravens hope to keep playing like this next week when they host the Tennessee Titans.
