The Oakland Athletics are ready to move on from some long time Players as well as a couple recent arrivals. In an attempt to restructure the team to possible make a deep playoff run in 2004 the As have decided it is time to part ways with standout 1B Jason Giambi who won his second consecutive Gold Glove this season, Longtime Pitchers Brett Tomko and Eric Milton who have combined for 75 wins in the last 3 seasons, Disgruntled Shortstop Gary Disarcina who wants the opportunity to start which he would have in Baltimore, and One of Oakland's top prospects in Shortstop Jason Bartlett.
In this trade Oakland will gain a pitcher that will be able to start for the next few seasons and a Center-fielder who will be on the bench this season in Baltimore but will have the opportunity to start in Oakland.
The Os will be gaining 2 SPs that will help cement their rotation for the next few seasons as they have superstar prospects developing in their minors. They gain a major upgrade in their First Baseman by acquiring Jason Giambi, a power hitter who will excel in the Power hitter friendly park that Baltimore has. A Stopgap Shortstop that can play well and hold down the fort until the prospects take over. and a Shortstop prospect with the potential to have a long and great career in Baltimore. This move also removes Coco Crisp from the team who will be benched for Luis Terrero this coming season thus getting rid of an unhapy player before he even gets the chance to be.
TL;DR: Oakland is trading a possible 5 Starting players to the Os for a Starting Pitcher and an outfielder who will be on the bench next season. this move better suits the stages each team is in at the moment.
