New York – The New York Football Giants are headed into 2018 with absolute optimism after last year’s regular season campaign. After one of the most successful regular seasons in franchise history, the New York Giants will be looking to build into a championship caliber team. With the upcoming season possibly being the last in Eli Manning’s storied career, the Giants look to be in “win now” mode. Some big names in free agency, along with a strong draft that filled some of the most glaring needs on the field have helped the Giants stay in the championship conversation.
In free agency, the Giants bolstered their backfield, adding RB Theo Riddick who specializes in his ability to catch out of the backfield and excels in the slot. Along with Riddick they added much needed depth in the offensive skill positions, including backup QBs Nate Sudfeld and Keith Wenning, strong handed Rishard Matthews and Cody Latimer at the WR position, and TEs Crockett Gillmore and Troy Niklas. With these additions, the skill around seasoned veteran Eli Manning is better than ever, as they return superstar WR Odell Beckham Jr and TE Larry Donnell. Along the offensive front, they added veteran Centers Wesley Johnson and Josh Allen to compete for the starting job. On the defensive side of the ball, the Giants picked up Marcus Williams to be their Nickel Corner. They were able to add Trent Murphy, Lawrence Flugence, and Max Valles to their linebacking group for depth and to compete for starting positions.
In the 2018 NFL Draft, the Giants added much needed depth at LB (Christian Miller, Alabama), RT (Ryan Ramczyk, Wisconsin), FS (Ronnie Harrison, Alabama), and HB (Joseph Yearby, Miami), among other positions. The front office staff hopes that these players will be helpful for years to come and should add to the overall depth at each of these positions.
The New York Giants are looking forward to their season opener, as the preseason is right around the corner. With some much needed snaps to get ready for the season and some position battles to hash out, the Giants are headed in the right direction for 2018. Here is to a great season and some fun times at MetLife Stadium this season.
