New Leadership in New York Quick to Make Offseason Move

August 26, 2016

With the departure of long-term coach Tom Coughlin in addition to new ownership, the New York Giants are preparing for the 2016 football season. The Giants ended last season with a dismal and disappointing 6-10 record and actually have not had a winning record since 2012. New leadership has been brought in to make changes to reverse that record.

The new owner did not hesitate to make changes and the Giants just completed a trade with the Houston Texans for free safety Lonnie Ballentine in return for a 5th round draft pick. The Giants felt that they needed secondary help over the top to ease some of the pressure off stalwart corners Rodgers-Cromartie and Janoris Jenkins. When asked about the trade, he replied, “Lonnie has a lot of raw, physical talent. He’s extremely quick, but he also has great size and jumping ability to go with his quickness. We expect him to start for us Week 1.” The Giants were indeed weak at the safety position and Ballentine should have a quick impact. The addition of veteran Leon Hall should also help shore up the secondary. The defense still needs to find a solid linebacker core.

The offense expects a bounce-back performance from Eli Manning, as the key to offensive success will be minimizing the turnovers, particularly the interceptions. “We expect big things from Eli, Odell, and Shane this year,” remarked the new owner. We’ll have to see how things pan out for the Giants and the new leadership. Will their vision work or will the Giants have to face another year of disappointment?
