As the 2017 season approaches many questions remained unanswered as far as the Chargers go. The big one being, “How long will Phillip Rivers last?!” his stats last year were decent considering he threw for 4,386 yards and 33 touchdowns, but with 21 interceptions and his age being a factor how much longer in the league does he have? At 35 years old he’s getting to the point where the Chargers need to start looking for another option. With the pickup of Cardale Jones, the infamous gunslinger out of THE Ohio State University, it looks like they’re trying to look toward the future. Though Jones has limited experience under his belt, will he be the answer to their quarter back problems? Doubtful.

A bright spot in the muck is the running back, Melvin Gordon, who seemed to shine last year with just under 1000 yard rushing (997) and 10 touchdowns. Gordon seemed to light it up when needed during games and will hopefully be able to continue his success into the 2017 season.

The wide receiver core is strong to say the least. Travis Benjamin and Keenan Allen head up the depth chart with Tyrell Williams rounding out the top 3. One has to wonder though if the rookie Mike Williams will make an impact. He was trouble for defensive backs in college and its possible that he could do the same in the pros. Next Megatron? Maybe. With Antonio Gates and Hunter Henry also being viable options for the passing game it could spell trouble for defenses. That is, if the quarter back situation is good.

On the defensive side is a returning Joey Bosa who came into his own last year and found his groove causing trouble for offenses on the pass rush. He and Denzel Perryman, linebacker, will try to stop the run game. In the defensive backfield you have Jason Verett and Casey Hayward who will try to stop/catch anything thrown their way.

All in all, the Los Angeles Chargers have a good base that may need a little improving in some areas, but will try to excel in a tough division.
