With the Jets going 2-2 in the preaseason and showing the fans some spark at times as well as showing many flaws the season was looking optimistic. Coming into week 1 of the regular season going up against the Cincinnati Bengals, Todd Bowles and the JETS knew it wasn't going to be an easy task for them to come away with the win.
Opening drive looked great for our JETS, as they forced the Bengals to a quick 3 and out. As their first drive came our beloved team looked ready and connected on all cylinders. JETS came up 1 yard shy of getting their 1st touchdown of the season and ended up with 3 points! Although, we would have wanted to put up seven, the way the kicking game was in preseason we took the 3 points with a smiling face!
Cincy ended up scoring on their second drive and that's when things looked like it was turning bad!
New York came out on their second drive and as the Fitzpatrick dropped back to pass he was immediately sacked! It happens, just an everyday play in the NFL. Once the crowd seen their quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick laying on the ground in pain and not getting up, everything went completely silent! Dropping our heads we just seen our season going down the drain! We now had to rely on backup QB Geno Smith, who showed signs of greatness in week 1 preseason. We all know that's why its the preseason!
Geno, did not look so great on his 1st two attempts missing 2 open receivers by a wide margin! Could this be our future? Where is Broadway Joe when you need him? With a backup quarterback and the running game putting up 10 att for only 8 yards and heading into halftime down 7-3 we were just happy it wasn't a blowout!
Sideline reporter, Lynn Swann was able to speak with Coach, Todd Bowles about the injury of his qb and the lack of offensive his team displayed in the 1st half.
"Our trainers informed us that Ryan only had a strained quadricep and that he would be ok but, wouldn't return back to the game. As for our team, we just need to play as a team and focus, stand behind each other no matter who is behind center!"
Coming back out onto the field the team must have heard their head coach because they came out on fire! The JETS looked like a whole different team out there! Matt Forte came alive and took the pressure off of Geno which was great for us and the fans! Geno looked like an NFL quarterback for the 1st time in a long time! The JETS scored 14 points unanswered, 1 in the air and 1 on the ground. Our defense played great only giving up 7 points late in the 4th. We came out on top not by much but, a win is a win baby! Final score Bengals 14 - Jets 20!

Not bad for someone who has been written off by the sports media and some of his football peers!
