2017 was a major disappointment for the Packer faithful. A team as loaded at skill positions as this one was not expected to struggle all year and finish 1-15. General Manager Pack1797 said "Failure is not just on the players, it starts at the top. We took last year for granted, and we paid dearly for it." There was a lot of uncertainty going into the offseason. Would ownership hold fast one more year, or would changes start to be made? If the offseason and draft were any indication, change is coming to the great white north.

"We want to play Packer football." the GM says as he goes over personnel and coaching notes. "There's a lot of talk in this league about high scoring offenses, gunslinger quarterbacks, and fast paced gameplay. I'm not knocking that style of play, it worked well for a lot of teams last season, but after the disaster of last season we're gonna start with the fundamentals. We're going to limit mistakes. We're going to play defense. The teams in the North are all serious contenders, and we can't afford to not make the adjustments necessary to compete with not only them, but the rest of the league."

"Our draft was a success. It should hint at what our focus is going into this season. I also love the trade for Mark Barron, as I feel he's going to be a solid fit in our new defensive scheme. Our new defensive coordinator, Coach Haslett, has made several position changes with our personnel to play his attacking 4-3 scheme, and we're lucky enough to have made some great picks to help aid in that transition."

Aaron Rodgers will return as the starting quarterback. The Packers will use a 3 back system in the running game, Both guards drafted early are expected to make an immediate impact alongside 3 returning starters on the offensive line, And of course, The usual suspects of Nelson, Cobb, and Addams will return in what may be their final season playing together. "Nelson and Cobb are both in the final year of their deals. We will wait until a later date to decide how to proceed in that regard." Pack stated with a poker face. "We'd love to see Jordy retire as a Packer, but in the end, we'll do what's best for the organization. Nelson, who turned 33 in the off season, has made no public announcements regarding his future beyond this season.

On defense, a lot has changed. With the switch to a 4-3, Nick Perry has been moved to end, bookending the the new defensive line with most likely 2nd round pick Ferrell. Mike Daniels will move to Tackle and share time with Addams, Dial, and King. Kyle Lowry will like see some time in certain formations at end as well.

The linebacking core will likely be made up of Thomas, Martinez, and Barron. while the secondary will remain largely the same as last year.

Mason Crosby will return to handle kicking duties, and JK Scott will most likely take over punting the ball.

"We've put players and coaches in a position to grow from last year and see some success" Pack said thoughtfully. "We're honestly a bit farther along in this adjustment and scheme change than I thought we'd be at this point. We're not there yet, where we want to be, but we are getting there." the GM said with a touch of hopefulness in his voice. "But in this league, close isn't always enough. We're building something here, and nothing great was ever built fast. Greatness takes time."

For Packer Nation, we can all hope that the time is sooner rather than later. Pack1797 has a history of down talking his expectations. He can be hard to read sometimes, but if this interview was any indication, this reporter's opinion is that he knows something he isn't letting on yet. He isn't showing his hand to us.

He wants us to enjoy the surprise.

See you next time.
