The New York Yankees have been seeking a veteran starting pitcher all season and have found an agreement with the California Angels to meet that need. In sending a group of prospects that we find very interesting and promising, we're willing to make a deal that sends them to an environment where they can further their future as well as help the Yankees survive the playoff push. Losing Pettite for what will likely be the season hurt us so we needed a bandaid and, as a rental, Mark Langston fit the bill of a veteran on a team that was selling at the deadline.

The New Yorks Yankees send CF Dezmon McDonald (A), 2B/(P?) Victor Zambrano (S A), P Jimmy Key (salary reasons), and P Ramiro Mendoza (A). Yankees Accept full salary obligations for Langston($5.0mil) whereas Angels accept full, expiring contract for Jimmy Key($1.8mil).

Approved. Zambrano at RP + McDonald at CF are the main prospects in the trade while Key is in for salary and Mendoza is filler. Seems solid for a rental. If I'm remembering the money correctly after the other trade, this should fit in.

I would have agreed but Langston exercised his 10/5 rights and refused to be traded.
