12 Yankees-Red Sox Trade - APPROVED

As blasphemous as it is to have these two teams agree to a deal, the Yankees have agreed to trade 2B Jack Hannahan for SP Roy Halladay.

The Red Sox are in rebuild mode and this trade sheds just under $32 million from their books over this year and next as well as get rid of an aging Halladay who, while good, has dealt with injuries that have caused him to miss 9 weeks and only pitch 13 games this year. They have also not gotten much, if any, production out of their first and second basemen, both of which Hannahan can play and play well.

For the Yankees, they get rid of a veteran who has his own injury issues and helps clean up a clogged middle infield and move players like Julio Volquez from third base to a position he feels more comfortable at with second base. They don't mind taking on Halladay's salary whose performance, while minimal, is good enough in there eyes to fill in that 5th spot in the rotation, something they've been looking for since before the season began and gives them time to keep their young prospects down for another season or two and let them fully develop.Screen Shot 2021-12-08 at 5.25.04 PM.pngScreen Shot 2021-12-08 at 5.25.24 PM.png
