Florida - Detroit Trade Proposal - VETOED

Please note that this trade has to be processed after the DET - OAK trade to work financially. Math checks out though!

In response to the ever growing threat of the Blue Jays, the Tigers have decided to put together a blockbuster with the Marlins in order to make sure they can compete in the playoffs. The marlins get a plethora of prospects back, two of whom are top 55, including a rookie Roy Oswalt. Lets break it down.

Tigers Gives: Roy Oswalt, Jackie Rexrode, Chris Aguila, Todd Meady, Dave Borkowski
Florida Gives: Ted Lilly, Edgar Renteria, 1.5m Cash

Tigers Give:
Roy Oswalt - 22 - 150,400

Money Talk: To make this trade work, the Tigers have to come up with 6,420,000 in matching money for this year alone. They have plenty of future money to cover the contracts.

Ted Lilly - 24 - 3,520,000
Edgar Renteria - 23 - 2,900,000
= 6,420,000

Then you add in the cash provided in this trade by Florida, 1.5M
6,420,000 - 1,500,000 = 4,920,000

Then, subtract Roy's salary of 150,400

4,920,000 - 150,400 = 4,769,600

This is where the A's deal comes in. Trading away Bautista and his 3,050,000 contact and adding 1M in cash gets them 4,050,000 in space. 4,769,600 - 4,050,000 = 719,600.

As seen below, Detroit Pre-A's trade has 1,212,012 available. 719,600 - 1,212,012 = -492,412, meaning Detroit now has 492,412 Money for Free Agents. The A's gain substantial future money for extensions and a small number for this season.

I vote no here also. Detroit is getting two proven All-Stars and only giving up one potential All-Star who has injury history. Aguilar is a very fringe, backup type guy and the other three will never see the majors. This really isn’t even close IMO.

I don't approve of this either. Maybe if renteria and Lilly were older, but these guys are still young and Oswalt is a injury prone pitcher and he is the headliner as the main prospect. I don't like this at all.
