76ers NBA2K18 Franchise "The process needs results"

Hall of Famer
So I am going to go with a 76ers as my team as they are such a fun team to rebuild and use. I don't expect to get a lot of replies and views on this so I am doing it more for myself then anything. One good thing about using them as if they make the playoffs and win a round or two or get a top 5 pick both are believable

Mode - My GM - They added a storyline aspect to this years mode I am not sure if I will post that here or not. I'll just have to see how it plays out.

Sliders / Quarters - My skill level isn't that great so I am somewhere between pro and all star don't worry I will not be winning every game I play. If I play the whole game then I go down to 10 min quarters.

How I play - Since I'm not going to play 82 regular season games what I think I will do is play 2 games per month. I will super sim the games and if its close in the 2nd half I will jump into the game. I will play all the playoff games unless I have a big lead.

Game Recap - I am going to use the image box score and then maybe a few sentences if its needed to describe the game. That way its easy to read and quick for me to post. I will not do this for every game I am thinking just the ones I play or jump in.

Articles - I will do several articles about 1 or 2 paragraphs long during the year as stuff happens. My writing skills aren't the best so overlook all my typos.

Roster - I am going to use the basic 2k roster and hope we get a week 1 ratings update in a few days so I can start. I will use start today which will make the 76ers 0-3 to start the year. I will try and keep it sim on any trades I make and I plan keeping Embiid, Simmons and Fultz as my core. I would like to sign 1 big free agent in the offseason and unload Bayless's contract.

2017 / 2018 Major Storylines

1. Is this the year we see results and the 76ers make the playoffs ?

The 76ers have been tanking and redshirting players for years and now the fans are tired of trusting the process and want to see results. Everyone knows that the Eastern Conference is very weak even more so then last year after this past offseason. The bottom 4 seeds in the east are up for grabs so fighting with teams like Pistons, Heat, Hornets, Hawks and Pacers aren't exactly death row.

2. Can Embiid stay healthy and justify the new contract after dominating in just 31 games last year?

Last year he finally made his NBA debut after sitting out 2 years with injuries and while he only played in 31 games. He averaged 20 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assist, 1 steal and 2.5 blocks and did all of this in only 25 minutes. The front office just 2 weeks ago went ahead and gave him a max contract instead of letting him play out the year as a restricted free agent. There is no doubt that Embiid can be a perennial all star and is still only 23 years old. He also may be the most likable guy in the entire NBA so he has a lot of people pulling for him. The big questions is can he stay healthy ?

3. Can Fultz score 20 a game as rookie ? Was it the right move to trade up to #1 and pass on Ball ?

Instead of picking at #3 overall the 76ers traded a future high draft pick to move up from #3 to #1 and take Fultz. On paper its a perfect fit as the team greatly needed some backcourt help, shooting and someone that can score. Even though he struggled in preseason nobody is doubting if Fultz can step in right away and score 15+ a game. Just keep a eye out on Jason Tatum for the Celtics and the future Kings pick to see if it was the right move to trade up.

* 2K defaults the pick to a 19 kings 1st where as it real life it could be this years lakers 1st if it lands on 2,3 4 or 5 that the celtics get. From the 76ers side everything will be fair either way just the lakers may get more help.

4. How will former #1 overall pick Ben Simmons play in his rookie year ?

If you follow the NBA at all then you have heard of Ben Simmons the former 1st overall pick who also missed his rookie year with a injury. He has drawn comparisons to Magic Johnson since he is 6'10 with PG skills. Incase you have never seen him play he is a do everything type of player who will flirt with a triple double on most nights. We are expecting him to average around 13 to 18 a night with 6+ assist and rebounds as a rookie. Just don't expect to see him score 26 a game and be shooting 3's as that is not his game.

Sixers will be a good team. I always like dynasty reports. Looking forward to this!

Thanks I am looking forward to it and this for me helps things be more lifelike. Once I start a franchise I will go all in and that's the plan this year. I did think about going with my league over mygm and still might as that would allow me to overrule trades and stuff that I don't like that the CPU makes.

So today 2k released its first ratings update so now I can start this up tomorrow as I have Plans tonight. The biggest news for the 76ers was Simmons went up 2 points and Fultz down 3.

I have also decided to do my league over my gm with 30 team control. This will allow me to make trades with cpu teams or swap it and just let me have trade veto power. I will also be able to do things like set cpu rotations and edit players ratings during the year. I can also jump in and make sure a player resigns with a certain team like Durant to warriors. I also didn’t see how I could do start today on my gm. I have also since I’m doing start today set pre existing injures to on so Fultz will out a few weeks.

  • I am still trying to figure out the format and didn't have all the info I needed. So overlook some things as I get the bugs worked out. I just wanted to get the few games I played last night posted as I should have some more stuff to post tomorrow as i'll be playing tonight.

Hawks handily win on the Road

Bayless misses two game 3's at the buzzer

Jarred Bayless the backup PG was came into the game for his 3 point shooting and hit back to back 3's and the 76ers took a 1 point lead with only 1:16 to go. Back to back baskets resulted in the 76ers down 3 and Bayless would come up short on two 3's that would have sent the game to overtime.

Curry dominates in blow out win
The 76ers have hit a wall as this is the 5th straight loss and most of them not close. The return of Markelle Fultz is happening soon so that will be a big addition.

Ball vs Fultz Part 1
The careers of Fultz and Ball will forever be linked after the 76ers traded up and passed on Lonzo Ball. If your looking at just the stats It ended up a draw as the PG's posted similar stats . We will give round 1 to Fultz as the 76ers finally break a 6 game losing streak. It will not take long for round 2 to happen as the two teams face off again in 3 weeks.

NBA News & Notes

I have went through every team and adjusted the lineup the way I would do it as well as changed a few positions if the player was a tweener. Sometimes the CPU will play a 3rd PG over a backup C when there is only a small rating difference. I have also created a excel sheet for myself on all teams to help me manage the teams needs / assets as far as trades go.

PF Chris Bosh signs a 1 year deal with the Celtics

SG Marcus Smart (77 ovr) is out 2 to 4 months and with injuries turned on they are also without Heyward. The Celtics now don't have a SG on the NBA roster. Could a trade be on the way ? They are currently 8-8

PF Dirk Nowitzki's likely final season is not going as planned as the Mavs are 3-13 and a pinched nerve at his back will cause him to miss 2-4 weeks

The Utah Jazz are off to a surprising start with a 12-4 record as well as the Pistions who are 11-4.

Its good news and bad news for the Wizards who are 11-4 and top of the eastern conference. Otta Porter (82 ovr) who was off to a great start with 18.1 points per game broke his wrist and is out 4-6 weeks, Kelly Oubre (75 ovr) will have to step up and play 30+ min a night

Smaller 76er Storylines

How much will bringing in JJ Redick help the team ?

Everyone knows to win in the NBA you need some veterans on your team to show the young guys how to win. That was one of the main reasons JJ Redick was brought to the team along with his shooting ability. JJ is off to a slow start with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assist while only shooting 30% from 3's. He is to good of a shooter for the slump to last it just looks like it will be more of a adjustment then everyone hoped. Amir Johnson was another vet that was brought in and is currently not in the rotation now that that Richaun Holmes is back and Okafor is playing well. JJ and Amir both signed 1 year deals so the team try and go after a big name free agent this summer.

Will Jared Bayless be traded ?

He is owed 9 million for this year and next and going into the year it looked like it would be very hard to trade his contract. When Fultz got hurt that allowed him see more minutes and he has responded well scoring 9.2 points while shooting 42% from 3. He has spent some time playing SG and that along with his production has got his rating up from 73 to 76. He has proven to be a valuable 3 point specialist off the bench that can play either the PG or SG. If he is kept till the off season when he only has 1 year to go on his deal that will help his trade value as he could be moved to a team looking to shed salary.

How much will it take to keep Robert Covington ?

His strengths on the team are obvious he has a rating of A in both perimeter defense and 3 point shooting. He is 6'9 and 225 so he is capable of playing the 2-4. He is averaging double figures in scoring for the 4th straight year and is shooting 41% from the 3. He is expected to get around 12 million a year and we don't see anyway the team lets him walk since he is only 26.

Can former 3rd overall pick Jahli Okafor turn things around ?

Jahli to the surprise of many has stayed in the rotation all year even after Richaun Holmes got back healthy. He is averaging around 16 minutes a night and is currently at 11.4 points and 5.4 rebounds. The trade rumors with him are always on going, but from what we hear it looks like his spot in the rotation is safe for now. The new front office likes his ability to score when the 2nd unit gets on the floor.

November Recap

After the lakers win the 76ers dropped the next 2 games to the Jazz and Warriors and then won 4 of 5 to close out the month of November. Below we will highlight some of the key games that closed out the month of November.

76ers 126 - Trailblazers 112
Fultz lead the way with 22 points and 4 assist and rebounds while JJ added 20. Simmons and Embiid both had 17 with Ben flirting with a triple double. Lillard had to pull the way with 36 points with McCollum injuried.

76ers 130 - Magic 115
Evan Fournier continues his career year with over 21 points a game and scored 29 on the night. Simmons lead the way with 25 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assist and all the other starters had double figures. It was a off night for Covington who in 26 minutes went 2 for 12 from the field.

76ers 117 - Cavs 106
In the biggest shocker of the year so far the 76ers get the win over the Cavs. It was once again a balanced effort as 6 players scored double figures lead by Fultz's 21. Lebron was held in check to 20 points with 4 boards and 6 assist.

76ers 120 - Celtics 110
The Celtics are off to a slow start due to injuries having to play a lot of young guys still its impressive to get the win in Boston. Covington was on fire going 10 of 12 from the field with 23 points and 9 rebounds. JJ added 22 with four 3's and Simmons and Embiid both had double double's.

Trade Alert

trade 1.PNG

Pistons 16-8 (1st seed in East)

Detroit is one of the major surprises so far this year and currently have the best record in the East. The PF spot has been a disaster for them with injuries and even the newly signed David Lee is getting 20 minutes a game. John Leur (74 ovr) is the current starter and despite 24 minutes a game is only getting 7.9 points and 4.7 rebounds. Backup Center Boban Marjanovic is out for 2-4 weeks so a backup Center is also needed.

Faried playing alongside Drummond isn't ideal as far as spacing the court goes. This will make for a very fun and unique defense team joining Avery Bradley, Drummond and Stanley Johnson. If him starting alongside Drummond doesn't work out he will still have a roll as backup PF/ C off the bench.

Tobas Harris was averaging 16.8 points a game and went down with a rib injury and will miss 2 to 4 weeks. Richard Jefferson is a veteran that can come in and split time with Johnson until Harris comes back.

The Pistons didn't want to wait a month after the hot start and feared losing ground in the standings with holes at SF, PF and backup Center. The Pistons brought in 2 guys that will play and didn't have to give up any draft picks or players that was currently in the rotation. It will be fun to see how this throwback defense and rebounding team does in todays era of basketball.

Nuggets 11-13 (12th in West)

Its no secret the Nuggets have been wanting to move Faried and his 13 million $ salary which doesn't expire until next year. His minutes will easily be given to younger players Trey Lyles and Juan Hernagomez.

Anthony Tolliver is on a expiring contract and Ish Smith is only making 6 million for this year and next. So this move will save the Nuggets around 7 million next year. The only true PG on the roster is Emmanuel Mudiay who has yet to live up to being a top 10 pick. Ish will get minutes and provides insurance if Mudiay is moved in another deal.

We expect another trade at some point this year as Will Barton is a FA and Gary Harris is out for a month. This doesn't hurt the Nuggets chances of making a playoff push.

5 Players that need to be traded

PF Zach Randolph (79 overall)
The kings are currently 7-24 and the 36 year old Zach Randolph doesn't need to be starting and taking minutes away from the young guys. He isn't the player he once was, but can still be a effective big men off the bench for a playoff team. If he doesn't retire he would be owed a manageable 11.6 million next year. This year he is averaging 11.5 points and 7.9 rebounds. Vince Carter could be included in the deal to a team looking to shed salary.

Fits - Wizards, Spurs, Rockets, Thunder

PG J.J Barea (78 ovr)
The Mavs are another team that's not making the playoffs with a 8-24 record and Dirk has already announced he is going to retire. JJ is 33 years old and is the 3rd PG on the team with 2 others being about 10 years younger then him. He has a cheap contract of under 4 million and is a offensive threat with 12.2 points and 46 % from 3's. If someone offers them a young big or a expiring deal with a 2nd round pick it would be hard for them to pass up. We expect the front office to sit back and wait for someone to get hurt before making a trade.

Possible landing Spots - Magic, Raptors, Trailblazers

PF Nikola Mirotic (76 ovr)
The bulls are in the midst of a long rebuild and Mirotic has a 12 million $ team option. The Bulls have cap space we have heard rumors they will trade him for a bad contract if someone offers a future first or a promising young player. Niklo isn't needed as Bobby Portis can get the minutes at the backup 4.

Possible landing Spots - Lakers, Wizards, Pelicans

Kyle O'Quinn (75 ovr)
To say to the Knicks have been a disappointment this year would be a huge understatement with a record of 5-25. Ramon Sessions and Doug McDermott are both starting and getting 30 minutes a game. Things got even worse when Frank Ntilikina went down for the rest of the year. I have no clue what direction the Knicks will do, but there is a logjam at Center and major holes at PG and SF. Just about every team could use a big off the bench who can play defense and rebound and play PF or C at 4 million $ per year.

Possible landing Spots - Bucks, Wizards, Jazz

Marco Belinelli (77 ovr) & Ersan Ilysova (75 ovr)
The Hawks quietly have a lot of cap space and some expiring contracts that could be useful for playoff teams. If you package both players together you have 12.6 million. Marco has A+ 3 point shooting and Ersan is a solid stretch 4 off the bench. The hawks have depth at SG and PF so those minutes can easily be given to others while getting back a future draft pick. Both players are averaging over 10 points a game.

Best Landing Spots - Pelicans, Cavs, Thunder

January 1st Update

The 76ers are still currently out of the playoffs with a 16-20 record with the good news being they appear to slowly be headed in the right direction. The month started off with 3 straight wins with the biggest of those being against the #1 seed Pistons. A terrible slump happened after that losing 7 of 8 games with the only win being against the Bulls. The roller coaster ride continued after that with 4 straight wins to close out the month of December all against teams currently not in the playoffs.

Trade Alert

Cavs 32-21(4th in East)

The Cavs have a log jam at SG and need another big man off the bench as the roster is way to Guard and wing heavy. Its also worth noting that Jae Crowder is out a few weeks, Channing Frye is out for the year and Isaiah Thomas is about to come back. Zach gives the Cavs much needed depth at 4/5 and a bench scorer on the 2nd unit. The cavs finally move Shumpert who they have been trying to do for a long time.

Kings 14-40 (11th in West)

The Kings are going nowhere this year and have no need for a 36 year old player taking minutes away from young players. Shumpert is expected to accept his player option which isn't a big deal as Zach was also on the books for another year. The Kings have some injuries in the back court with George Hill and Malachi Richardson and rookie Josh Jackson needs a backup. They also pick up a future 2nd round draft pick in 2021. If Shumpert does accept his expiring contract will have more trade value next year. Iman can earn minutes as a versatile wing shooter off the bench and add the veteran presence that Vince Carter and George Hill have this year.

Devastating Injury News

The 76ers are currently still hoping to land a playoff spot and currently are 4 games out in 10th place in the east. The chances to finally make the playoffs got a lot worse as 2 major injuries happened this week. This has got the NBA world in a uproar as despite the lackluster record the 76ers are a fun young team to watch and cheer.

Joel Embiid the charismatic center was having a stellar year with 15.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.1 assist, 1.8 blocks on 46% shooting. He got some awful news and unfortunately he broke his Vertebrae and will miss the rest of the season. Joel just can't seem to stay healthy and now you have to seriously question if he will ever be able to.

Robert Covington was the 6th man on the team and 3rd in points with 11.9. He saw starter minutes due to his defense and also was shooting 41% from 3. He tore his right hamstring a few days ago and will miss 4-6 weeks which will be about all of the regular season.

Even though the trade deadline is just a few days away a trade isn't expected to happen, Jahli Okfor will finally get his chance earn minutes and has played well this year. Justin Anderson (75 ovr) will see the biggest bump in minutes with Covington being gone. Justin is a good young athlete that is a solid defender just doesn't score much. You will also see more minutes from Richaun Holmes. The veteran Amir Johnson will also join the rotation. Ben Simmons was shifting to PF a lot so that also will not happen much without Covington in the lineup.

Trade Alert

trade 1.1.JPG

Bulls 18-35 (12th seed in East)

The bulls are in a long building phase and get rewarded with two 1st round picks for the price of taking on 2 bad contracts. With the Trailblazers currently out of the playoffs they are hoping this lands them a additional lottery pick this year to team with Zach Lavine and Lauri Markknen to build the foundation of future team.

Trailblazers 22-32 (10th in West)

The Trailblazers are currently out of the playoffs and in dire need of creating some cap space. The price to do that comes at 2 first round draft picks a unprotected one this year and then a lottery protected pick in 2020. Mirotic and Pondexter are both expiring deals and now they can bring back Jusuf Nurkic or maybe bring in someone else this offseason. There was a logjam at SF so Harkless and Aminu will see more minutes. With all the power teams in the west the Trailblazers had to make some kind of move as a late lottery pick wasn't going to put them over the edge.

---------------------------------------------------

trade 4.PNG

Knicks (13th seed in East)

The Knicks have had Ramon Sessions and Doug Mcdermott starting as you can imagine that hasn't worked so well. With the logjam at Center the Knicks tried desperately to trade someone all year and ending up having to settle a little bit. Terrance Ferguson is a 19 year old rookie who will come in and start the rest of the year. He will likely be shifted toward a bench role next year, but will gain a lot of experience the rest of the way. The pick from the Bulls should be at the top of the 2nd round and fetch another solid prospect. Singler had to be added for salary reasons and will come off the books after next year.

Thunder (4th in West)

The Thunder have had minor injures from Westbrook and Robinson this year and was desperate for some help down low. Quinn will be provide some toughness and rebounding down low and insurance incase Adams gets hurt. Beasley is on a 1 year deal and will be another nice bench piece. They also get rid of Singlar's salary and the 2nd round picks wont help them beat the Warriors and Rockets

Other Trade News
The Raptors have traded Lucas Nogueria and a 2nd round pick to the Mavericks for PG J.J Barea. Lucas has signed a multi year extension with the Mavericks.
