Dallas Cowboys Season 2 Newsletter
Cowboys looking to make a deal or 2
News came from Valley Ranch today that the cowboys have elected to put Defensive End Randy Gregory and Demarucs Lawrence on the trading block, "Both are amazing upside players that just happen to be fighting for the same position. If we can get some value out of one of them in a trade and upgrade another position, we will. If we can't, we'll just have that much or depth on the line.". Also going on to the trading block is TE Jason Witten, "While Jason certainly has built a legacy here in Dallas, we have great young potential behind him that needs to see the field. While Jason is still a dominate force in the league, we are looking to the future and getting some of our younger guys the experience needed to make a run down the road.".

Stay tuned for all of the late breaking Dallas Cowboys news
On the Block:

DE DeMarcus Lawrence

BREAKING NEWS from Valley Ranch, Quarterback Tony Romo is out 4 weeks with a upper arm fracture. Sources say an MRI is scheduled tomorrow to make sure there is no ligament damage. This injury paves way for a glimpse in to johnny footballs progression. "we won't change our game too much. Of course there will be minor tweaks here and there, but about 95% of the game plan stays the same for week 1.".

Dallas originally planned in releasing 3rd string quarterback Tim Tebow, but with the injury to Romo, solid play by Tebow in preseason, and general lack of a sturdy quarterback, it looks like Dallas might hold on to 3 QBs all season.

Week 1 Recap

CowboysManziel_crop_exact.jpg
Game Summary:
Dallas opened the season against the Seattle Seahawks, a team who they played twice last season, a loss in regular season, and a win in the playoffs, both nail biting games. This one had a lot of interceptions. by Johnny Manziel. Seattle opened the game with a long drive for a touchdown to go up 7-0.Dallas beginds to drive the ball to answer the Seattle touchdown, converting on a long 3rd down to Jason Witten hook route, but on 3rd down, Manziel forced an out route to Cole Beasley who is contacted while making his break but no flag was thrown, the pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown by CB Marcus Burley, 14-0 Seattle. Dallas next drive goes 3 and out, Dallas punt. Seattle takes their next drive down the field with ease, scoring on a touchdown pass by Russell Wilson, taking a 21-0 lead late in the 2nd quarter. Dallas next drive stalls around mid field, and they punt, pinning Seattle deep intheir own territory. After dallas forces a punt, they take over late in the 2nd. Ivory starts getting hot and gets Dallas a few first downs, Witten catches a seam route to the 5. Chris Ivory finished the drive with a toss, beating the defenders to the cone for the touchdown with 20 seconds left, moving dallas to withing 14, down 21-7. Dallas received the ball at the half, but immediately coughed it up, as Manziel stares down Bryant on a comeback route and fires the ball directly to Seattle DB Tharold Simon, who returns it for a touchdown. After another Dallas punt, a blown coverage leaves Seattle rookie WR Deron Hickman wide open for a 75 yard touchdown. Manziel tried to lead a late comeback in garbage time, but only ended up throwing 2 more interceptions.

BREAKING NEWS from Valley Ranch, as the Cowboys have submitted a trade for league approval. The St Louis Rams are sending young Halfback Tre Mason to the Cowboys for a 3rd round pick in this years upcoming draft.

Dallas began shopping for a RB after starter Chris Ivory left their week 1 game mid-way through the 3rd quarter with a broken collarbone, and is expected to miss at least 8 weeks, barring no set backs in his recovery. Initial reports came in that Dallas was in line to land RB Marshawn Lynch, but the offer of 2 2nd round picks(1 this year 1 next year) was never responded to by the Seahawks, thus Dallas began discussions with other teams around the league.

If approved, Tre Mason would immediately become the starter over Joseph Randle, who carried the ball 3 times for 10 yards in the week 1 loss to Seattle. Dallas felt that Randle never really proved himself in the preseason where he seen 85% of the snaps.

After learning of the looming trade, and the denial of the starting role, Joseph Randle was seen leaving the Cowboys practice facility. When asked about Randle's absence from practice, head coach Jason Garrett said Randle's absence was excused, and they expect him back tomorrow.

BREAKING NEWS
News out of Valley Ranch has just come down, it looks like the Cowboys have made another move. Early reports are that Dallas is shipping young stud LG La'el Collins, a long with their 1st and 5th round draft picks for this years dtaft to the division rival Philadelphia Eagles. In return, Dallas will receive 3 players that are expected to start this week against the rival Green Bay Packers.

First is WR Brandon Lafell

Lafell is a long arm receiver that isn't the quickest but will hold on the the ball when it's thrown his way. He also has the blocking skills to keep a corner occupied on a power run to his side, or getting to the 2nd level and eating up a safety allowing Mason to bust a big one.

Next, Sir Kiko Alonso

Kiko is going to be a beast in the middle along side McClain. He's young, he can read plays like no other, and can pursue any ball carrier.

Last, CB Logan Ryan

Lon Ryan will start immediately, and provide much needed relief to a secondary that is hurting for quality CB play.

While Dallas picks up 3 immediate starters, 2 of them young stars, all 3 of them come with deals expiring this year. While im sure they would love to keep all 3, it will be interesting to see where they go with their money. deals already looming are CB JJ Wilcox, pro-bowl TE Jason Witten, and TE Gabin Escobar, and Dallas is already stretching cap as is.

Week 2 Recap
Dallas came in to the week with high hopes for their newly rebuilt offense and defense, after injuries, and bad play let to major trades and roster reshuffling. Going in to the week, Dallas wanted to make a statement in their run defense, and get stops in the secondary when the Packers were forced to put the ball in the air. That plan backfired in the first 5 minutes of the game. The Packers came out firing on all cylinders in their passing game while Dallas was worried about stopping the run, driving down the field with relative ease on their first 2 drives to go up 14-0. Dallas scored before the half to make it 14-7 at the half, but the Packers storm out of the gate at half time scoring 10 quick points to go up 24-7 early in the 3rd. Dallas musters a TD late, but turnovers and no defense got Dallas too far off their game plan to really get anything going, as Dallas falls 27-14 to the Packers.

Johnny Manziel 13/28 195 Yards 2TD 3INT
CowboysManziel_crop_exact.jpg

Manziel never got in to the groove Dallas was hoping for. Overthrowing receivers, throwing streaks 10 yards out of bounds, even short quick routes seem to sail on Johnny today. There is gossip of a quarterback change, but at this point it is only gossip. With Romo returning in 2-3 weeks, Dallas is in no hurry to hand the reigns to Tim Tebow, but if play like this continues we may have another Tebow sighting in the NFL.

Tre Mason 10 Carries 53 Yards
usatsi_8151823-1.jpg

Tre did what he could early on, breaking a few big runs, and making a catch out of the backfield. Once the game got away from Dallas they were forced to abandon the run in hopes of getting a spark on offense to close the gap, and it just never happened. Look for Dallas to keep pounding the ball with Mason.

Dallas travels to New York next week to take on the 1-1 division rival Giants. If Dallas hopes to stay in the race in the NFC East, they will need to step up and make a big statement to the division next week.
