Kent State Commitments (Week 12)
The Golden Flashes' win over Northern Illinois last week proved to be a big recruiting pitch for the school as they received seven more commitments following the thrilling win. The Golden Flashes now have 13 commits for the 2016 recruiting class and are currently ranked with the #32 recruiting class in the nation by ESPN.com
Jeff Lee - 6-1 220 - Linebacker - Bexley, OH - ***
Has good speed and decent range. Is a solid wrap up tackler. with decent pop and strength. Can rush the passer when needed but is not an elite rusher. Can shed blocks and make plays. Lacks an ideal motor. Doesn't always play to the whistle. Struggles in coverage. Projects as possibly a passing down speed rusher.
Kevin Gilmore - 5-9 205 - Halfback - Landen, OH - ***
Has a stocky frame with good size in his lower body. Doesn't have great speed or strength but plays with good pad level. Is elusive in the open field. More quick than fast. Has had troubles holding onto the ball. Not a great receiver out of the backfield. Does well in pass protection. Has an outside shot of developing into a starter. Has a unique skillset that is hard to project.
Ben Jackson - 6-5 247 - Tight End - Bonita Springs, FL - ***
Has terrific size and strength. Plays with good technique in run blocking. Is an effective drive blocker. Doesn't possess the best hands but can go up and get balls in traffic. Runs good routes and can get open. Has the ability to be good to great.
John Wiggins - 6-2 327 - Defensive Tackle - Coral Terrace, FL - ***
Very good size and strength. Can absorb double teams in the run game. Effective at shedding blocks and making tackles. Not an elite athlete. Strictly a one gap player. Doesn't always wrap up the ball carrier. Not overly effective in the pass rush. Will likely just be a 1st and 2nd down player but is probably better suited for a 4-3.
Nick Bonner - 6-2 305 - Offensive Guard - Manassas, VA - * (JUCO)
A very good pass blocker who plays with great technique. Get his hips squared and keeps his center of gravity low. Has good pop off the line. Not overly powerful though. Not an effective drive blocker. Decent athlete but not a great pull or trap blocker. Fits best on a pass heavy team.
Clint Johnson - 6-0 171 - Cornerback - Kalamazoo, MI - ***
Excellent cover corner with very good technique. Has very good play recognition. Is rarely out of position. Shadows his man well and doesn't take unnecessary risks. Has good speed but is not a great athlete. Uses technique to keep himself out of trouble. Has good pop when tackling but gets over aggressive at times and tries to make the big hit. Will not be great in run support. Purely a cover corner.
Ben Sherman - 6-7 295 - Offensive Tackle - Wekiva Springs, FL - ***
Large body with good size and strength. Although an effective blocker, his size does force him to give away some leverage. Otherwise does use his size and strength effectively. Is an OK athlete but can get beat around the edge. Most effective in phone booth. Should be a solid all-around tackle.
