Week 6 vs Saints
Another week, same results for this Panthers team. This once feared defense, now without Luke Kuechly, is just plain terrible. The defense could not do anything against the Saints as they fall 31-10.
The Saints wanted to play ball control offense and keep Cam Newton off the field and they succeeded. As the Saints controlled the ball for 27 minutes compared to 13 for the Panthers. The Saints accomplished this with both the run and passing games.
Drew Bree's finished an outstanding 23-23 for 230 yards and 3 TDs. WR Marlon Brown caught 2 of those and Brandin Cooks snagged the other. However, TE Josh Hill was the leading receiver for the Saints as he hauled in 6 receptions. The ground game was led by Mark Ingram who finished with 102 yards on 21 carries and 1 TD.
When the Panthers actually had the ball, they did some good things. Cam finished 10-19 for 166 with 1 TD and no int's. The one TD was to Kelvin Benjamin, who took a post route, split the safeties, and took it to the house for a 58 yard TD. Benjamin also made another big play later in the game, but it was in the Saints favor, as he made the only turnover of the game, by fumbling on the Panthers own 40 yard line. Which at the time was a huge momentum swing, as the score was only 14 -10. Mark Ingram took the very next play to the house and the Saints never looked back.
The Panther are luckily on a bye next week. Kuechly hopefully will return after the bye, but that is still up in the air. One good thing for the Panthers though, at least they won't lose next week. After the bye week they play at home against the Cardinals.
