Carolina Panthers 2015 Season Preview

The Panthers are starting the season as the only NFC South team to win back to back division titles. Going for the third division title will be a tough challenge with a division that was been hard at work rebuilding from a global disaster that was the NFC South last season. The Panthers won the division with a 7-8-1 records making them the fourth team to make the playoffs with a losing records and only the second team to do so under the 16 game schedule since the 2010 Seattle Seahawks.

Offense Preview

The Panthers signed Cam Newton to a $103.76 million over five years and will keep him in Carolina through the 2020 season. For the Panthers to be successful, Newton will have to stay healthy for the season and work close with his new wide receiver group.

Derek Anderson is the Panthers backup quarterback. He started two games last season, both of which resulted in victories. He has a key understanding of the system in place and fits very well with Cam Newton.

Johnathan Stewart will be the starter for the Panthers this season after the release of Williams. Stewart lead the league last season in the last four game in rushing numbers and can make a huge impact this season if he can stay healthy. The Panthers have Fozzy Whittaker and fifth round draft pick Cameron Artis-Payne.

The Panthers are happy with the production of Kelvin Benjamin and Greg Olsen. Also, the Panthers are looking for a huge season from second round draft pick Devin Funchess. With the addition of Ted Ginn Jr. and the flashes of Corey Brown, the Panthers look like they finally have put weapons around Cam Newton.

Defense Preview

The Panthers are looking for a huge year from the defense this season. With the addition of Shaq Thompson to pair with Davis and Kuechly, the Panthers linebackers are looking very strong. The Panthers have also brought in Charles Tillman to help give a very young Panthers secondary a leader on the field.

The loss of Greg Hardy is a huge hit on the defensive line, however the team management is happy with the decision to not go after him this offseason. Charles Johnson will have to stay healthy this season to help keep pressure on quarterbacks this season. Star Lotulelei is a force at defensive tackle and will help take some of the double teams away for Johnson to break free at the end.

The Panthers defense has upgraded from last season but still has some holes to fill in the secondary.

Overall

The Panthers look to have a better team this season and with another year with the coaching staff the Panthers look ready to advance far into the playoffs.
