Atlanta Falcons Season 2 Preview

Dan Quinn's Second Year brings a heightened level of expectations
The pressure is on. A year ago, a ton of question marks surrounded a football team that had been
disastrous under Mike Smith for the previous 2 years. However, in 2015, the Atlanta Falcons powered their way to a 13-3 record and the #2 seed in the NFC, led by MVP Matt Ryan, WR of the year Julio Jones, and OROY Tevin Coleman. The defense stood up well, as rookies Vic Beasley and Jalen Collins shone and other veterans performed at an incredibly high level. The effort was all for naught, as the falcons completely collapsed to the eventual superbowl champions, the Dallas Cowboys. This offseason, the falcons made a plethora of moves to try and bring home the lombardi trophy. On the offensive side of the ball, Jones returns and is supported by new addition Marvin Jones and rookie Avery Reed. Look for both to really step up and make this offense more dynamic and less one-dimensional. The falcons also drafted C Tyler Guiterrez with the 27th overall selection, and he is an immediate starter and impact player. Coleman also has depth behind him now with Ball, freeman and rookie 5th rounder Bensly Taylor rounding out the depth chart. Expect a more committee-like approach this year as the offense should retain its position within the top 5 in the league. Defensively, the pieces are now all n place- it's about meshing. The falcons released MLB Paul Worrilow and signed OLB Ashlee Palmer. Now, the falcons have 3 outside linebackers starting, a scary proposition if Brooks Reed can't cement himself at MLB, a position he has never played. Meanwhile, the defensive line looks to be ferocious as the depth and talent in unbelievable. Sacks shouldn't be an issue with this unit. The secondary appeared to be solidified following the addition of Brent Grimes, but a knee injury to Ricardo Allen has landed him a role on IR. It is now a battle between Chris Clemons and Charles Godfrey to lock down the starting FS spot.
Finally, the falcons face a very stout schedule. They play the top seeds of the NFC this season in Seattle, Detroit and the reigning world champion cowboys. They also square off against top tier AFC squads and will play Tampa Bay in weeks 15 and 17, potentially setting up a winner-take-all showdown in the final week of the regular season. It will be an uphill battle with this team. They were a surprise team just a season ago, but now they're expected to be a superbowl contender. Can they handle the heat?
