Kent State 31, Florida International 27

NCA14PS3_380_GR_JPEG_SCREENSHOT_ssC.jpg

MIAMI, Fla. --- Kent State overcame some first half jitters and a second quarter turnover and rebounded in the second half to escape Miami with a 31-27 win over the Golden Panthers. The win improved the #19 Golden Flashes to 6-0 on the year. Florida International fell to 4-2.

FIU went into the half up 24-10 after Kent State turned the ball over late in the half. A stalled drive early in the 3rd quarter by the Golden Flash seemed to sway the momentum firmly in the direction of FIU. However, a key stop but Kent and a score to pull within seven swung the pendulum. The Golden Panthers turned the ball over twice more in the 4th quarter and the Golden Flashes were able to capitalize and escape with the victory.

Kent State's Nic Buckley left the game in the third quarter and backup Neal Britt guided the Golden Flashes to victory by completing 7-of-11 pass attempts for 135 yards and a score. Running back Joe Rogers, Jr. was limited to just 57 yards on the day after averaging 120 through the first five games.

Kent State will return home next week and try to keep perfect season in tact as they host Arkansas State. Meanwhile, Florida International will head out on the road for a tough matchup with the 5-1 Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders.
