Week 7 and the Bruins faced their biggest test to date. The Mississippi State Bulldogs were sitting at 5-0 and looking to remain undefeated. The Bruins were 5-1 and clicking on all 3-phases. The Bulldogs started the season with a new offense and had some success with it as well. The Bruins game planned for the scheme and were counting heavily on their play making Linebacker corps.

The game was almost like the Bruins practiced for. Heavy doses of runs, miss direction etc. The Bruins D had relative success against the run but got beat on some key play-action passes. Where the Bruins thought they would have success was on offense, but they would be stone-walled in the first half by the Dogs. Craig Lee kept plugging away for minimal yards. TJ Milweard could not get the passing game going.

UCLA managed to get some big turnovers in the red-zone. The biggest was a defensed pass on 4th and 3, 3 seconds left on the clock. QB Caleb Jones scrambled on the play due to good pressure from the front 5 of UCLA. He threw the ball on the run, so it lost some power. There were 2 receivers in the vicinity, but UCLA CB Johnny Johnson stayed true to his zone and made a game saving deflection as time expired.

The Bruins go to 5-1 and roll into the bye with the heart of the conference schedule ahead.
