TCU Stuns #14 Nebraska 28-21

FORT WORTH, Tex. - Following a disappointing loss at Wisconsin last week, TCU rebounded with a spirited effort against #14 Nebraska, topping the Cornhuskers 28-21 at Amon G. Carter Stadium. The win was the second of the season for the Horned Frogs and improves the team to 2-1 (2-0 at home) on the year.

The game started out less than ideally for TCU as they fell behind 14-3 to the Cornhuskers in the first quarter. Nebraska was seemingly moving the ball at will while TCU was struggling to generate consistent offense. The Horned Frogs turned things around, however, in the 2nd quarter 25 unanswered points to take a 28-14 lead late in the 4th quarter. Nebraska was able to score with just 1:15 left in the game but an onside kick was unsuccessful and TCU was able to run out the clock for the win.

Senior quarterback Tyler Matthews was the key to the TCU turnaround as he found a rhythm and a connection with Kolby Listenbee. The two connected on a 20-yard touchdown pass with 3 second left in the first half to ties the game.

In the second half Matthews began to find star tight end Buck Jones consistently and also connected with him on a third quarter TD. Cameron Echols-Luper also had several big catches in the second half and the Horned Frogs amassed a season high 386 passing yards. Listenbee and Echols-Luper each had seven receptions while Jones led the team with 11 grabs. Jones and Echols-Luper each topped 100 yards while Listenbee finished with 74.

The TCU running game was also effective despite starter Kyle Hicks going down to injury in the third quarter. Hicks and backup Travorris Johnson each carried the ball 11 times and combined for a season-high 93 yards.
