UNLV went on the road to face the Tulane Green Wave this week. UNLV comes into the game after a big home win vs #25Utah, and a 1-0 record, while Tulane a week prior had a heartbreaking loss to Georgia St. and came into the game 0-1. First quarter this game started slow, UNLV won the toss and chose to defer, so Tulane starts with the ball. after a 3 and out from Tulane, UNLV comes out strong running the ball. They pound out some good yards on the ground, then on the first pass play, SR QB Troy Hawthorne throws an INT. UNLV defense holds strong and gets the ball back. after a couple more possession changes, UNLV starts driving the ball late in the quarter. The first quarter would end 0-0 and look to be a slow game. Right out of the gate in the 2nd quarter UNLV would take the first lead and score of the game with a 10 yard run from Keith Watkins off the left tackle. UNLV leads 7-0. Once Tulane gets the ball back, immediately, SR QB Devin Powell would throw a pass that gets jumped by SR LB Tau Lotulelei and taken back for 6, and UNLV takes a 14-0 lead after two scores in 13 seconds. UNLV would get an INT off the next two drives as well, and score on those drives. One score coming from a 32 yard TD run from SR QB Jared Lebowitz, and the 2nd score coming off a 4 yard sweep play to Keith Watkins for his 2nd TD of they day. With 30 seconds left in the 2nd, UNLV leads 28-0. Coach Bubba Gump brought his defense out and played conservative because he was certain Tulane would run out the half, regroup, and come out 2nd half fired up. That wasn't the case, Tulane bows up and gets some big pass gains, and the defense looked sluggish on this drive, and they just man handle the UNLV defense to grab a score from a 18 yard pass from Devin Powell to JR TE Greg Wade with 1 second left in the half. At halftime the score is 28-7. In the second half Devin Powell would throw 2 more INT in the 3rd, making 5 total, but UNLV could not capitalize off of them and would punt back. There was no score in the 3rd, so that takes us to the 4th. The only score in the 4th would be a 23 yard run again from Jared Lebowitz. Final score would end up being 35-7 Rebels.

Coach Bubba Gump was interviewed after the game and he had this to say, "Tulane is a great team. Don't get me wrong, it could have easily been us on the other side. Our defense came out strong, and that led the motivation for this team. Our offense was clicking great too. I saw alot of good things this game. Tulane goes into a bye week next week, then will travel to play #16Auburn, and like i said they are a great team, and i see Tulane winning that one. Don't count them out, they can still win their conference and be contenders. I'll say this, this was just an off game for them, I wouldn't want to play them again because the result would most definatly not be the same. Watch for them to come out, grab a road win against Auburn and get fired up for the rest of the season."
