It was a hot one in the ACC this saturday. Miami came into Charlotesville to take on the #3 rated, undefeated Cavaliers. Miami was prepared though. No slouch themselves, they came into the matchup ranked #13 and a record of 7-3. This game would decide the winner of the ACC title game, as the other side has already been decided on FSU. Alot on the line, and not to mention its a heated rivalry game. Let's see how this one played out why don't we. Virginia had alot on the line coming in with an undefeated record, their best season in school history, and the leading heisman candidate. Coach Bullard was quoted before the game saying "If we don't win this one the season is a failure". Pretty big dreams for this guy.

The game would start with Virginia winning the toss and deferring. Miami would quickly punt to start the game. Then UVA's pass offense comes alive and they march down the field and cap off the TD with a 10 yard pass from Watford to TE Hunter Bowles.

The following drive Miami QB Victor Davis would throw an INT to true freshman LB Matt Ward, who is having an outstanding freshman year. Expecting alot of things from this kid. UVA would be right back at it again, and get down to the goaline. From the 5 Yard line, Watford tries to hit his WR on an out route to the corner of the endzone, but JR CB Larry Hope had other plans as he picks it out of the sky to give possession back to Miami.

THEN HERE COMES THE CANES!! They waste no time on the drive, UVA CB Harris would blow his coverage, giving Miami WR Malcolm Lewis that extra step and he would take it 62 yards for the touchdown early in the 2nd. Score at this point is 7-7.
Lewis_zps368c69ac.jpg
UVA would quickly bow up after that defensive letdown, and Heisman Candidate Taquan Mizzell would find a hole, and run the ball 74 yards and get brought down on the 12 yard line. UVA is pumped after that, and finds FB Sammy McFarlane in the endzone for a TD, after only taking a minute to score. UVA takes the lead again 14-7 with 4:20 left in the second.

Miami wanted to try and score before the half ended, and were set up for around a 49-50 yard field goal with a 4th and 10, so they decide to go for it, and convert the 4th and 10. The drive would end shortly after that as Miami settles for a 29 yard field goal, making the score 14-10 with 44 seconds left. Coach Bullard knew he got the ball at half, so he tells his offense to sit on the ball and go to the half.

On UVA's first drive of the second half, they would be content with their powerful kicker Ian Frye, as he boots a 51 yard FG, making the score 17-10. Miami puts up a nice long sustaining drive, and scores on a 6 yard TD pass to WR Jontavious Carter. Score is tied 17-17 late in the 3rd. Watford would go out and give up his 2nd INT and Miami takes their first lead of the game on a 4 yard tocuhdown run from HB Dallas Crawford to take the lead 24-17 with 10 seconds left in the 3rd.

Now after giving up the lead, and smelling an upset brewing, Coach Bullard sends his offense out on the field again. They slow themselves down, and try to sustain a drive pounding the ball with their HB Mizzell. It would come up short again, however, and after a hard decision, even taking a timeout to think about it, Bullard puts faith in his defense and kicks the FG making the score 24-20. Miami now trying to seal the game. Start a 4th quarter drive, looking to score a TD and put the game away. After 3 first downs, UVA's defense makes a great stop forcing a 4th down situation. The field goal team takes the field, and the defense starts waving their arms, and this stadium is LOUD. K Matt Goudis would MISS THE KICK AND THE STADIUM GOES CRAZY. No time for UVA to celebrate yet. They haven't won the game yet. Once Watford takes his team all the way down the field, the game sits on a 4th and 2. Bullard has no choice but to go for it. Mizzell has been their go to all year, and i think everyone in the stadium knew he was getting the ball as they come out in their goal line defense. When the ball is snapped, Watford tosses it to Mizzell, and he beats the DE to the corner, turns it and takes it in for the TD. UVA takes the lead 27-24 with 39 seconds left.

The stadium goes crazy. I don't think Scott Stadium has ever been so loud. Again Coach Bullard knows they can't celebrate yet. With no timeouts Miami takes the field again. They try a few deep passes, and on the third one Davis tries to find Lewis down the field again, but JR CB Tim Harris wasn't getting beat on this one, as he picks off the ball and immediately runs out of bounds. Now Coach Bullard knows he can celebrate. They kneel the ball, and get their shot to go to the ACC title game against FSU. UVA improves to 11-0 this year, and Miami would drop to 7-4.

Coach Bullard was interviewed after the game and he said, "This win was great, one of the greatest moments of my life. We'll celebrate tonight, but were back on the field tomorrow. We've got a smoking hot FSU team to play for the ACC title. Coach Dong were ready, i'll see you In 2 weeks, i know your watching!"

San Diego State's close encounter with disaster may give them an edge.

In a game that was closer then the experts were thinking. The Sun Devils (7-3, 6-1 conference) rode into San Diego to face the Aztecs (10-0, 7-0 conference) with the Pac 12 Reagan division title on the line. But for the Aztecs there was more then a conference title game on the line. The number 1 Aztecs are not only chasing their 2nd Pac 12 title but they are chasing the schools first ever National Title.

On a beautiful sunny day the Sun Devils won the toss and elected to kick off. San Diego efficiently drove the length of the field where they capped off their 75 yard opening drive with a 5 yard TD pass from Chad Jeffries to TE Dominique Bierria.

ASU's first drive would eventually stall thanks to a qb sack by senior LE John "Dirty" Sanchez and the Aztecs would take over once again from just inside their own 30 yard line. The Aztecs would quickly march down the field again and score again through the air when QB Scott Thomas finds backup HB Donnel Pumphrey on a beautiful short play action pass when they faked the hand off to Price and Humphrey runs in untouched from 18 yards out.

The Sun Devils next drive started out with a couple of negative plays and just when it looked like a 3 and out was looming, a game changing play happened. ASU QB Michael Eubank threw a long pass down the sideline. Two Aztecs were there and somehow the ball was deflected into the air and WR Fred Gammage hauled the pass in for a 43 yard gain. This really seemed to ignite some life into the Sun Devils as they then managed to drive down the field and Eubanks found Michael Smith from 16 yards out to make it a 14 to 7 game with just under 3 minutes in the half.

Once again the Aztecs methodically and surgically march down the field using up all but 10 seconds of the clock when Chad Jeffries finds Packer great Sterling Sharpe's son Lance Sharpe from 5 yards out to give the Aztecs the comfortable 21-7 lead.

ASU would receive the second half kick and Coach Ben Dover's club scratched and clawed and converted 3rd down after 3rd down and even a 4th and 10 from inside the Aztec 30. After 6:38 the Sun Devils were finally able to punch it in on a 11 yard TD pass from Eubanks to WR Blake Covey. Cutting the Aztecs lead to 7 with one quarter left to play.

Clearly frustrated the Aztecs took over on their next drive and once again calmly marched down the field. ASU was caught in a blitz, the Aztecs picked it up and Chad Jeffries found WR Larry Clark, Clark took the 10 yard pass made a move and scooted down the sideline and dove into the end zone for the 30 yard score putting the Aztecs back up by 14. 28-14.

But the upstart Sun Devils wouldn't quit. With 4:00 minutes left the Devil's drove the length of the field and once again cut the lead back down to 7 on Terrell Davis's 3 yard td plunge.

A failed onside kick attempt followed and the Aztecs quickly raced into scoring position before taking a couple knees and running out the rest of the clock.

Coach Morgan was proud of his teams win but was clearly frustrated by his team's inability to put teams away when they have the chance. The Aztecs face bottom dweller Boise State then await the Pac 12 Hoover division winner here in San Diego.
