WASHINGTON POST: REDSKINS SPORTS PAGE - SEASON PREVIEW
Washington, D.C. – The 2018 NFL season is upon us! Last year, Washington’s season ended with a playoff loss but the team continues to improve from year to year under head coach, Jay Gruden. As we look forward to the 2018 Season what can we expect from this Redskins team?
Key Additions
RB, Thomas Rawls: Washington was fairly quiet in free agency and off season trades this year, but they did pick up Thomas Rawls. Rawls and Kelley should split carries this season adding both speed and power to the run game.
DT, Maurice Hurst: Washington’s 1st round pick, Maurice Hurst will be a key piece to Washington’s defense this upcoming season. An explosive player in defending both the run and pass, we expect to see a major improvement to Washington’s defense this year.
WR, DJ Chark: Washington’s 2nd round pick, DJ Chark will add the vertical threat Washington has not had since the departure of DeSean Jackson. He should help stretch the field giving Cousins both a deep option but also easier throws underneath.
Key Losses
Washington did not lose any key players this off season and are excited to build on the playoff team they already were last year.
Offense
Gruden will continue his West Coast Offense with an emphasis on the running game. Look for the Redskins to attempt to establish the run early and build their passing game off of it.
Defense
We fully expect Washing ton to continue their attacking 3-4 defense. Pressure on the Quarterback will be the key to their success this year.
Schedule
Washington’s schedule this year is somewhat unbalanced. Most of their home games will be played in the first half of the season followed by a long stretch of away games in the second half. They were fortunate to have a late season bye however. Washington will need to collect as many wins as possible in the first half of the season to be a playoff contender. The full schedule is as follows
Week 1 Washington @ Arizona
Week 2 Philadelphia @ Washington
Week 3 Chicago @ Washington
Week 4 Houston @ Washington
Week 5 Washington @ Philadelphia
Week 6 New York Giants @ Washington
Week 7 Jacksonville @ Washington
Week 8 BYE WEEK
Week 9 Dallas @ Washington
Week 10 Washington @ Tennessee
Week 11 New Orleans @ Washington
Week 12 Washington @ Tampa Bay
Week 13 Washington @ Indianapolis
Week 14 Washington @ Atlanta
Week 15 Washington @ New York Giants
Week 16 Carolina @ Washington
Week 17 Washington @ Dallas
The preseason is just around the corner and both excitement and expectations are high in D.C.
