Week 9 Recap:

Broncos @ Eagles

The game started out as a defensive slugfest for the most part as I think with neither Coach knowing the other it was a feeling out process for both teams. After trading punts back and forth for most of the 1st quarter. Carson Wentz was picked off by FS Darian Stewart on a deep pass intended for Alshon Jeffrey. The Broncos then found life thanks to a Pass Interference penalty on a deep ball of their own to Demaryus Thomas as CB Patrick Robinson dragged him to the ground. The Broncos got to first and goal from the Eagles 8 yard line to start the 2nd quarter. However as they did most of the day the Eagles Defense stood up and held the Broncos offense down. After Siemian airmailed an open Emmanual Sanders in the corner of the endzone on 3rd down K Brandon McManus was forced to hit a chip shot FG to go up 3-0.

The Eagles however came right back quickly as they got the Broncos defense off balance after starting the drive with a 19 yard run with HB Blount. Followed by passes of 12 and 18 yards. Then Wentz was able to role right and throw back over the middle to find WR Nelson Agholor for a 24 yard TD. 7-3 Eagles

SiemIan tried to answer right back but on 3rd down he overthrew a wide open Thomas streaking up the sideline for what would have been a TD. So after going back to trading punts again. Broncos Punt Returner Devonte Booker had a solid 26 yard return to set the Broncos up near midfield. But Siemian then made is only true mistake of the game besides the overthrows. He tried to hit Thomas on an out route but he threw it slightly late and was picked off by CB Patrick Robinson with under 1 min remaining in the half. But the Eagles might have gotten a little to greedy as they were backed up at the Broncos 17 and after a 1st down sack. Wentz on 3rd and 10 from the 17 and the clock rolling tried to throw an out of his own but Nickel CB Bradley Roby picked it off at the 23. The Broncos decided to settle for a FG to make it a 1 point game. After running on 1st down to set up the angle. For some reason they were not being able to use their last time out!!!!! Clock just kept ticking until it was halftime. 7-3 Eagles still at the break.

The 2nd half started with the Eagles looking to take advantage. They had a solid drive working down inside the Broncos 30. Then a sack knocked them back to the 40. On 2nd down Wentz found LB Brandon Marshall for his 3rd pick of the game and Marshall was able to return it all the way back to the Eagles 32. Immediately on 1st down Siemian was able to hit a wide open TE Virgil Green for a 32 yard TD. 10-7 Broncos

Wentz came back again after a few Plays and found LB Brandon Marshall again for his 2nd Int in as many series and the 4th time Wentz was picked off. The Broncos offense was starting to gain a little momentum thanks to their defense. Siemian really started making some nice reads and throws. Now the Broncos were back in the redzone. 3rd and goal after a pass to Sanders set them up at the 2. The Eagles sold all out for the run so all Siemian could do was dump it off to his TE Virgil Green for his 2nd TD. 17-7 Broncos

The Broncos defense forced a 3 and out and thanks to the fairly strong wind the punt was short and the Broncos took back over near midfield. The 4th quarter started on 3rd down and 4 with Siemian finding his rookie WR Carlos Henderson for a catch and run of 53 yards to the house. 24-7 Broncos.

Neither team did a whole lot in the 4th quarter after the way it started but on their next possession with still a decent amount of time left the Broncos added on a 49 yard FG from McManus to bring things to the final score of 27-7 Denver.

Next week the Broncos (6-2) will host the Patriots (6-2). Should be a fun one.

GG Maverick....The game was so much tougher than the final. Good Luck the rest of the season.

This could prove to be a big game come playoff time regarding possible seeding.

The Broncos are coming off a win at Philly last week in Miggy_Ray's debut with his new team. The defense played outstanding and really carried the team to victory by putting the offense in good field position to put points on the board.

The Patriots are coming in off their bye week. With the possibility of getting Gronkowski back for this game.

The Patriots are a very dangerous team coming into Sports Authority Field. The Broncos defense will have to somehow find a way to slow the Patriots almost unstoppable offensive attack down while the Broncos offense will look to bounce back from the mediocre performance in Philly last week.

Week 10 Recap:

Patriots @ Broncos

This game matched two teams with two of the better records in the AFC and if you were looking for excitement then this match up for sure provided that. It was a highly contested back and forth shootout.

The Broncos received the opening kickoff and for the 2nd straight week failed to establish the run game early. So on 3rd and 12 Siemian found his TE Virgil Green for 19 yards. After another unsuccessful run lost yardage and Siemian was brought down on a coverage sack. The Broncos were left with 3rd and 17. Siemian dropped back and immediately noticed he had man to man coverage. After he did not like his first 2 reads he saw his speedy backup veteran HB Jamal Charles on a wheel route against the Pats MLB the coverage was fairly tight but Siemian dropped it on a dime and after Charles made the safety miss he was gone for a 64 yard TD.
7-0 Broncos

The Broncos defense and the Pats defense then traded 3 and outs. Patriots got the ball back and Brady found Gronk who did play banged up to start the drive with a first down throw. After 2 runs left them at 3rd and 5. Brady found the speedy wide out Brandin Cooks for 21 yards to the Denver 31. The Denver defense tightened up however and left Stephen Gostkowski for a 50 yard attempt that he nailed
7-3 Broncos

After the kickoff Siemian came out firing on first down only to be picked off by Eric Rowe who returned it all the way back to the 8 yard line. After a first down run was stuffed for minus 1. Brady dropped back to pass and with absolutely no need for a spy on the 40 year old QB the Denver defense was in a full zone. But Brady decided to take off with it. Before the Denver defense even knew what happened Brady strolled into the corner of the endzone for a 9 yard TD run.
10-7 Patriots

After Denver picked up one first down on a 21 yard gain to Emmanuel Sanders. The Patriots defense forced a punt and then thanks to a Von Miller sack NE was forced to punt it right back on a 3 and out. After a nice 26 yard punt return by Devontae Booker set them up in New England territory the Broncos run game was again shutdown. But again on 3rd down Siemian was able to find his 3rd option when he glanced and noticed his big WR Demaryius Thomas streaking down the sideline wide open. Siemian throw it up high and deep and the bigger Thomas was able to come down with it in the endzone over the top of the safety who had come over to help for a 46 yard TD.
14-10 Broncos

Brady came right back as he usually does and it was the Gronk show catching passes of 19 and 23 yards. With an 8 yard pass to HB James White in between. This got them down to the Denver 22 with under a minute left in the half. James White ran on first down for 6 and then Brady finds Brandin Cooks for a 16 yard score.
17-14 Patriots

Only 25 secs left in the half Denver wad just going to run out the clock. But on first down CJ Anderson broke through for 13 yards. So with all 3 time outs Denver decided maybe in the thin air of playing at home they could sneak into the range of McManus. Siemian dumped a pass to Jamal Charles for 10 more yards and another timeout. Only 8 secs left however Siemian was able to complete the pass to Rookie wideout Carlos Henderson for 31 yards. But for the 2nd straight week Denver could not get their last timeout called in FG range
Halftime 17-14 Patriots

The 2nd half started with the Broncos defense forcing a 3 and out. Again Devontae Booker set the Broncos up this time with a 56 yard punt return all the way to the Pats 24. The drive started with Siemian hitting Thomas for 9 yards but on 2nd down the run was stuffed. 3rd and 2 from the 16 Siemian found TE Virgil Green for 13 yards down to the 3. Siemian tried to go playaction on first down but decided not to force it and threw it away. Thank goodness he did because on 2nd down HB Jamal Charles was able to bounce his way in from 3 yards out to put the Broncos back on top.
21-17 Broncos

The Patriots came out on the ensuing possession and went to the run game plus more Gronk who picked up a couple of 1st downs when needed. This brought the Pats to the Denver 31. On first down Brady dropped back and found Chris Hogan for a catch and run of 31 yards for another answering score.
24-21 Patriots

After WR Bennie Fowler returned the kickoff for 31 yards. The Broncos looked to answer with a score of their own. Anderson ran for 9 yards on first down. But on 2nd down Anderson was hit and fumbled, however after the review it was determined he was down. Then just after avoiding that costly turnover on 3rd and 2. Siemian and Sanders were not on the same page and Siemian was picked off by Malcolm Butler near midfield. After 2 short runs Brady found Hogan for 12 on 3rd and 8. After 2 more runs on 3rd and 3 CB Chris Harris broke up the 3rd down pass leaving Gostkowski for a 40 yard FG early in the 4th qtr, but he clanked it off the upright no good.
Still 24-21 Patriots

After 2 modest runs and a completion to Demaryius Thomas for 38 yards this got Denver down to the Pats 27. Short gain on first down followed by 2 straight incompletions this left Denver with a FG attempt to tie it up. McManus was true from 42 yards out.
Game tied 24-24

Brady started the next drive with a 25 yard completion to Gronk. Then a couple solid runs left the Pats with 3rd and 2. The Broncos may have surprised Brady as sack artist Von Miller was in coverage and broke up the 3rd down pass. After the punt resulted in a touchback with 5:33 remaining in the game. Siemian tried to catch the Patriots napping as he took a playaction shot on first down but the Pats were not fooled in the least. Safety Devin McCourty was back there to pick off Siemian for the 3rd time. HB James White started the drive with 2 straight runs the 2nd one going for 14 yards and a first down. The Patriots were then faced with a 3rd and 11 and then after a false start penalty that made it 3rd and 16. The Broncos pass rush got to Brady and Derek Wolfe sacked him to force the punt. Devontae Booker returned it this time for about 12 yards but he was injured on the play (Likely will miss the rest of the regular season). The Patriots defense then forced a 3 and out. The dangerous Brandin Cooks nearly returned the punt after slipping out of a couple tackles but was brought down after a 17 yard return. This brings us to the 2 min warning still tied at 24 apiece.

The Broncos defense really stepped up huge right here. The Broncos came with a corner blitz on first down resulting in a Chris Harris sack. Then Von Miller does what he does best and sacks Brady again on 2nd down. This leaves the Pats with a 3rd and 25. Brady nearly did squeeze one in there that would have been close to a 1st down but TJ Ward was able to jar the ball loose. So the Patriots are forced to punt and Rookie WR Carlos Henderson is back for his first ever punt return in the NFL. As if it was already written what does he do but take that first ever return and take it all the way back to the house from 62 yards out.
31-24 Broncos

1:17 left on the clock for Brady however is like having a whole quarter left to play. First down the theme that could not be stopped Brady to Gronk for 30 yards. Then Brady to Gronk again after an incompletion for 23 more yards down to the Denver 22. Then Brady hits Hogan for 13 more to the 9. Then Brady dumps it off to HB James White but he only gets 1. 2nd and goal from the 8 Brady fires to the endzone....broken up by Talib. 3rd and goal Brady fires to the endzone.....broken up by the diving FS Darian Stewart. 4th and goal from the 8 still and only 7 seconds remaining Brady fires to the endzone.....caught Chris Hogan sliding to his knees for the TD to send this game to overtime
Tied 31-31 End of Regulation

New England wins the toss in overtime and of course elects to receive. On 2nd down after an incompletion Brady hits WR Danny Amendola for the first time all night for 24 up to midfield. Very next play Brady screens it to James White and he gets 26 yards down to the Broncos 25. But the Broncos defense has seen enough actually knocking them back 3 yards and that brings on Gostkowski for a 45 yard FG. He missed from 40 earlier but this one is good.
34-31 Patriots

The Broncos have one last chance to either tie or win it.

First down is a run for Anderson for 4 yards. Second down Siemian goes Playaction but is forced to dump it to his FB for no gain. So 3rd and 6 SiemIan drops back and does not read the pressure well. He tried to step up but it was to late and he was sacked to bring up 4th and 11.
Game on the line only a first down would keep the game alive. SiemIan dropped back and sees that man again Rookie Carlos Henderson down the seam. SiemIan fires a strike between 2 DBS and Henderson rakes the hit and hangs on for 29 yards and a 1st down. The 2 min warning hits in overtime. SiemIan wants to throw again on first down. He drops it off to WR Marlon Brown for his only catch all night and he weaves his way for 17 yards to the New England 30. Broncos try to sneak a run in for a surprise and Charles picks up 6 to the 24. 1:31 remaining in OT.....SiemIan wants at least 1 shot at the endzone so on 2nd down he drops back and finds that man again Carlos Henderson the ball was slightly underthrown so Henderson had to catch it and back pedal and stumble in for the game winner.
Broncos 37-34 in OT

Great Game Tsmith....might not be the last time we play but if it is good luck the rest of the season.

Week 11 Recap:

Bengals @ Broncos

After 2 straight clutch performances Trevor Siemian was completely awful in this one. The Coaching staff considered going to the backup Paxton Lynch but after falling behind 17-0 the team fought their way back to cut the game to 17-10 at one point.

The Bengals jumped out early on their first drive as recently signed QB Cooper Rush got the start. Not knowing what to expect had the Broncos perplexed from the beginning. Rush started the game very sharp and that allowed HB Mixon to gash the Broncos front early as well. Rush threw a TD pass and put the Bengals up 7-0.

The Broncos offense has been a mystery since the new ownership and coaching staff has come aboard. If they want to pound the rock they end up having to throw. This week we actually wanted Siemian to take over more responsibility but it seems he was not ready for the challenge. But on the bright side the running game got going. But ultimately and honestly the Broncos did nothing of note the entire first half.

After the Cincy score early in the game the Broncos defense played much better. Cincy did put together a solid drive in the 2nd quarter that led to a Randy Bullock 46 yard FG to put Cincy up 10-0 and that is the way the score stayed until the half as again the Broncos offense was stagnant.

The 3rd quarter started much the same way as the opening of the game. Cincy drove down early in the 3rd quarter and QB Cooper Rush threw another TD pass to make the score 17-0 Cincy. This lit a small fire under the Broncos offense determined not to be shutout at least. The Broncos answered with a McManus 47 yard FG to make it 17-3.

The Broncos defense then got motivated and started getting quick stops and giving it back to the offense now that they had found just a little rhythm. The Broncos get the ball going into the 4th quarter and finally put a drive together this resulted in Siemian finding WR Thomas for a TD and cutting the Cincy lead to 17-10.

After another quick job of the defense getting off the field. The Broncos came out with a chance to tie the game. Siemian dropped back and saw a wide open Demaryius Thomas going downfield on an obvious blown coverage. But Siemian chocked and overthrew Thomas by a good 5 yards on a walk in TD that would have tied the game. After this last debacle of a pass the Broncos offensive spirit was officially broken. After the Broncos punted the Bengals drove down to put the final nail in the coffin. Bullock hit another FG to put the Bengals up 20-10.

Late in the game a little after the 2 min warning Cincy tacked on another not really needed TD pass from Rush to bring the final score to 27-10. Something some of the Broncos defenders were not exactly thrilled with.

Bottomline with the playoffs fast approaching the Broncos need to put together a complete game from start to finish and get things figured out. Hopefully it starts this week in the Black Hole but that is always a tough place to play and get a win so we shall see. The Broncos will be without WR Emmanuel Sanders also with a dislocated elbow.

GG Jrk1d good luck the rest of the season.

Week 12 Recap:

Broncos @ Raiders

usatsi_9504249.jpg

It might be time for the Broncos to make a change and shake things up. Something is going on with QB Trevor Siemian and it is really bringing the offense down as a whole. Paxton Lynch is probably not the answer either but the team needs a spark.

For the 2nd week in a row the Broncos offense was abysmal. Mostly due to the passing game and the inability to keep drives alive converting on 3rd downs. The offense started off hot and with a 12 play drive to open the game. But then they failed to punch it in the endzone from the 4 yrd line and had to settle for a chip shot FG
3-0 Broncos

Oakland then answered right back with a solid running attack led by Marshawn Lynch. But on 3rd and 1 from the Denver 33 the Bronco defense busted through and dropped Lynch for a loss of 1. So the veteran K Janikowski came on and with plenty of leg knocked home a 51 yard FG to tie it up.
Tied 3-3

The Broncos then come right back after a really nice drive the first time they had the ball and they go 3 and out and once again showed no consistency on offense. Broncos punt and that leads to a nice return by the first year Raider Cordarrelle Patterson of 23 yards setting the Raiders up near midfield. The Raiders immediately complete a first down pass for 18 yards to put them in FG range quickly to start the 2nd quarter. After another first down gets them inside the redzone the Broncos defense holds and forces another Janikowski FG.
Raiders up 6-3

The Broncos come out on first down and Siemian throws an Int to CB Sean Smith. The Broncos defense forces a 3 and out on 3 straight incompletions from Carr. So after the punt and the Broncos get the ball back. They go to the run game...CJ Anderson picks up 15 yards then Jamal Charles picks up 10. 2nd and inches after to straight solid runs the Broncos try to get tricky and throw now. Siemian drops back and finds LB Bruce Irvin for another Int in as many pass attempts. You could see many of the Broncos defenders hang their heads as they get almost zero rest again. This allows the Raiders offense to just do whatever they want and they go right down the field capped off by a Derek Carr to Amari Cooper 12 yard TD pass.
Raiders up 13-3

Broncos get the ball back needing any type of score to answer but the 3 and out bug strikes again. Broncos P Riley Dixon then manages to just stick a punt down at the 1 yard line at the 2 min warning. The Broncos are thinking get a quick stop or a safety even to give them life. But with 6 straight Carr passes Oakland was able to get the ball out to the 20 where Denver forced a punt. The offense takes over just shy of midfield with 33 secs on the clock. Just wanting a FG to make it a one score game the Broncos throw incomplete on first down. 2nd down Siemian is sacked and loses 11 yards. So to cut their losses the Broncos just take it to the half to regroup.
13-3 Raiders

The Broncos came out fired up to start the 2nd half they sacked Carr on first down. Then gave up a first down pass to Cooper. But then LB Brandon Marshall stepped in front of a Carr pass and forced a much needed turnover. But unfortunately the Broncos offense had to come out on the field now. In true Denver offensive fashion on the very first play they fumble the football right back to Oakland and they return it to the Denver 35. After another sack of Carr followed by a short completion the defense gets off the field on 3rd down. But Janikowski and that leg of his nails a 55 yard FG.
16-3 Raiders

The Broncos come back with their usual 3 and out. Then after the punt was return to midfield. Carr dropped back on first down and throws a 51 yard TD to Amari Cooper again. Oakland then elects to go for 2 and they get that was well with a pass to TE Jared Cook.
24-3 Raiders

Broncos are pretty much in surrender mode now. They do actually pick up a 1st down this time but what else would you expect but a holding penalty negates the first down. So chalk up another 3 and out for the offense. After the punt the Raiders have a 3 and out of their own but they also have Janikowski. So he comes on and is just showing off now hitting a 59 yard FG.
27-3 Raiders

Things are just getting embarrassing at this point. The Broncos drive starts with another holding call. But after solid back to back runs of 9 yards by CJ Anderson the Broncos are left with a 3rd and 2. Siemian actually completes a pass and to his own teammate this time WR Thomas for 25 yards. Then he finds WR Carlos Henderson for 8. Not wanting to risk 3 straight completions they run one with Anderson. Then on 3rd and 1 Siemian completes a dump off to Anderson for 11. 3 straight completions is almost a miracle at this point. But on first down Siemian throws incomplete to break that miracle streak. 2nd down from the 22 yard line. HB CJ Anderson breaks free for a 22 yard TD run. Denvers 2 pt try is good to backup TE Jake Butt.
27-11 Raiders

The Raiders showing no mercy mount another drive aided by another Bronco penalty this leads to Janikowski adding on another long FG this time actually under 50 yards (49 yards).
30-11 Raiders

The Broncos got another drive working mainly I think to keep the Raiders from tacking on more points. Siemian drove the team down the field staying balanced to chew the clock up. They got into the redzone to the 18 yard line. Siemian then got greedy and forced a pass that was picked off by FS Reggie Nelson in the endzone. Oakland them mercifully ran out the final minute to end the ballgame.

GG Paytonno1son and good luck the rest of the season.

Broncos sign FA WR Lucky Whitehead

1453696235-NS_08COW9_47154809.JPG

With the injury to WR Emmanuel Sanders the Broncos had some wide receivers playing in unnatural positions. Thinking they needed a true smaller quicker slot receiver they have gone out and signed the 3 year vet Whitehead. Expect him to see some action immediately in their upcoming game with Miami.

Rumors and speculation swirl around Denver QB situation

After back to back terrible performances by QB Trevor Siemian rumors were some wanted him benched in favor of last years 1st round pick Paxton Lynch.

I think if this were a Home game Lynch would get the nod, but being that it is on the road and almost a must win game Siemian is getting the start.

An anonymous source within the organization has said Siemian's leash will be a choke collar if the offense is as bad as it was the previous 2 weeks.

Week 13 Recap:

Broncos @ Dolphins
Broncos-Von-Miller-forces-Panthers-Newton-to-fumble.jpg

Broncos bring their defense and timely offense to Miami to earn a key victory in playoff push.

This game started as bad as it possibly could as Rookie HB De'Angelo Henderson got popped and fumbled the opening kickoff. So the Dolphins take over at the 24 yard line. Jay Ajayi gets off to a hot start with runs of 8 and 10 yards. Then Cutler is sacked for a short loss by DT Peko and DE Crick. After another 4 yard run by AjayI the Dolphins are left with a 3rd and goal from the six. Cutler who was under duress all game long was chased down and sacked by LB Von Miller but he grabbed Cutler's facemask. So the automatic firstdown keeps the drive alive at the 4. Ajayi is stuffed on first down then Cutler throws and hits Ajayi out of the backfield but his momentum carries him out at the one. So 3rd and goal again from the 1. Cutler drops back and slings one into heavy traffic that was picked off by CB Chris Harris who then accidently brought the ball out of the endzone and was tackled at the one foot line. First down Denver gives to Jamal Charles for a yard. He separates his shoulder on the play and misses the rest of the game. Anderson gets the call on 2nd down for only another yard. 3rd and 9 from the 2 Denver elects just to try and give the punter some room. So they run it with De'Angelo Henderson who is now the 3rd down back and backup running back with Charles out. He only gains 2 yards but it gives the punter Dixon enough room to boom one out of the endzone. Cutler is again sacked on first down by DE Derek Wolfe. This helps force a 3 and out. Denver gets the ball back and again tries to pound the run game but after only minimal gains on first and second down the much maligned Siemian drops back for his first pass attempt but he is sacked to force a punt. Miami picks up a 1st down to end the 1st quarter.
0-0 after the first quarter.

The second quarter starts with Miami getting shut down on offense. So they punt it back to Denver. Siemian comes out and gets his first pass of the game off in the 2nd quarter, but it was incomplete. Anderson was stuffed on 2nd down. Then Siemian who has been rumored to be on the verge of a benching drops back on third down and tries to drop an out in on the sideline. However Rookie CB Cordrea Tankersley made a break on it and jumped up for the pick and return to the Denver 27.
After a short run and a short pass gained 5 yards to the 22. Jay Cutler dropped back and threw a dart to the back of the endzone to HB Jay Ajayi who was lined up in the slot and ran a streak route right up the inside seam. The catch was reviewed and upheld.
7-0 Dolphins

Midway through the 2nd quarter now with Paxton Lynch starting to stretch and warmup the Broncos offense found that spark they have been missing. Siemian finally completes a pass to his team to HB CJ Anderson for a first down. Then Anderson runs it for 12 yards and a first down. Siemian then finds Rookie WR Carlos Henderson for back to back 15 yard catches. This sets Denver up first and goal from the 9. Anderson runs it again for 6 on 2nd and goal Siemian drops back and is hit but he was able to shake off the defender and while stumbling kept his eyes up. Once he regained his footing he found WR Demaryius Thomas coming across on a slant and a TD.
Game tied 7-7

Miami returns the kickoff and thanks to another DE Derek Wolfe sack forces a quick 3 and out with under 2 mins remaining in the half. The Broncos take over with 1:05 remaining and 2 timeouts. After a short dump off to his backup TE Jake Butt...Siemian found WR Thomas again for 26 yards down to the Miami 39. After a holding penalty on first down knocked them back to midfield and only 16 secs remaining. The Broncos decided to take the chance of getting back into FG range. Siemian threw incomplete on 1st down. 11 secs left now the Dolphins went man to man on defense and Siemian found the mismatch with his HB Anderson matched up on a LB. Siemian completed the pass for a catch and run of 15 yards to the 34. Denver calls their final timeout and K McManus comes on and connects from 51 yards as the half expires.
10-7 Broncos Halftime

The 2nd half starts with Miami in possession and looking to reestablish their rushing atttack. Ajayi carries on 4 straight plays with one run going for 17 yards and picking up 2 first downs. Then Miami shoots themselves in the foot with a holding call to help derail their drive at midfield. Miami's punter then coffin corners his punt pinning Denver down at the 6 yard line. Siemian feeling a little more confidence coming back throws to Carlos Henderson for 12 yards. That is followed up by fellow rookie De'Angelo Henderson (no relation) taking a stretch play and using his speed to pick up 19 more yards. Siemian then goes back to the air and hits WR Thomas for a catch and run of 34 yards to the Miami 29. CJ Anderson then gets 3 straight carries totaling 22 yards to set up a 3rd and 2 from the 8. HB De'Angelo Henderson showed some inside power we did not know he had and fought his way for 7 yards down to the 1. Anderson is stuffed on first down but on 2nd down he was able to get in, but wait another holding call negates the TD and makes it 2nd and goal from the 10. Siemian hits newly signed WR Lucky Whitehead crossing over the middle for 6 yards. 3rd and goal from the 4 now Siemian drops back and absolutely sees nobody to throw to and the Dolphins are crashing the pocket hard from the outsides. Siemian then sees an opening up the middle and he squeezes out of the pocket and runs it in from 4 yards out. This virtually ends the 3rd quarter as well.
17-7 Broncos

The 4th quarter starts with a Miami 3 and out as the Denver defense is really flying around now. Miami punts to the newly signed Whitehead and he has a solid 18 yard return to near midfield. Denver started with 2 runs by CJ Anderson for 6 yards and then 12 yards. Then they brought in the Rookie De'Angelo Henderson the little speedster from the small school of Coastal Carolina. He took the handoff from the Miami 38 and thanks to a number of key blocks and a nifty hurdle over a defender and blocker on the ground Henderson raced for his first career TD in only his 2nd career game after being signed off the practice squad.
24-7 Broncos

Both teams traded punts now and the Dolphins got it back with 4:09 left in the game. Cutler threw incomplete on first down and the Broncos figured in a 17 point game Cutler would be trying to sling it around and hope for a miracle but on 2nd down the Dolphins called a draw and the Denver defense parted like the red sea. Backup HB Damien Williams rumbled right up the middle and was not caught until he had gone 74 yards to the Denver 12. The Denver defense then at least made the Dolphins work for it but Cutler was able to throw a 1 yard TD to WR Devante Parker
24-14 Broncos

Just prior to the 2 min warning the Dolphins tried an onside kick but Denver recovered. The Broncos then went 3 and out. Denver punted and pinned Miami back at the 5 yard line with 1:47 remaining. This is when Cutler put an end to things himself when he dropped back and threw late to the outside allowing LB Shane Ray to jump the route and have a short stroll to the endzone from 8 yards out.
31-14 Denver.

Cutler did have a couple good throws left in him getting the ball down to the Denver 31 but then the wheels officially came off the rails. First down Cutler threw it away. He was sacked for a 11 yard loss on 2nd down that made it 3rd and 21. His 3rd down pass was incomplete. After back to back false start penalties made it 4th and 31 Cutler was sacked again for the 7th time in the game. Denver then ran out the clock to get a huge win down in Miami.
Final: Broncos 31-Dolphins 14

The Broncos ended their 2 game losing streak and improved to 8-4 on the season. Still hanging onto a playoff spot at the moment but a lot of teams are chasing. Positive news is Siemian was a competent game manager after rebounding from the early pick. The defense got back on track which is a big bonus.

Next week the Broncos take on the Jets at home. The Jets are just recently under new ownership so we are expecting a much tougher game than we originally thought it would be against a vacant (CPU) opponent. Every game is big for us here on out.

Week 14 Recap:

Jets @ Broncos

The Broncos drop a heartbreaker to the fiesty Jets at home dappening their playoff chances. The fans were needless to say disappointed.
709863221_orig.jpg

The Broncos started the game with a 3 and out. QB Colin Kaepernick who is starting in New York came out sharp completing his first couple of passes picking up first downs and moving the Jets into FG range. The Broncos defense then put the clamps down and forced Chandler Catanzaro to try a 55 yard FG which he hit to put the Jets on the board first.
Jets up 3-0

After the kickoff Trevor Siemian tried to answer back with a positive start on first down hitting his TE Virgil Green for 27 yards. Then another first down pass to newly signed Lucky Whitehead on a dump off for only 2 yards. CJ Anderson then picked up a couple to leave 3rd and 6. But Siemian's pass was incomplete to bring on another punt. After 2 runs were stuffed Kaepernick went to work on 3rd down hitting WR Robbie Anderson for 14 yards. But on 1st down Kaepernick was picked off by LB Von Miller dropping into coverage. The Broncos got rolling to start their drive again as HB Jamal Charles picked up 12 on first down. After a short 1 yard run and then a holding penalty on the O-Line. This left Denver with a 2nd and 19 from the Jets 41. Looking to just get back into FG range to tie Siemian dropped back looking for a curl route but at the last second he saw Whitehead streaking down the seam with his man beat. Siemian dropped a dime in there for a 41 yard TD pass to Whitehead near the beginning of the 2nd quarter.
7-3 Broncos

The Jets then went 3 and out quickly. After the punt the Broncos were stuffed on a first down run. Then Siemian completed a pass to WR Carlos Henderson for 7. On 3rd down Siemian went back to his old ways finding DB Juston Burris for an INT near midfield. Kaepernick took off running on first down picking up 15 yards down to the Denver 30. But the Broncos defense shut it down from there but Catanzaro connects again from 46 yards this time.
Broncos remain leafing 7-6

The Broncos and CJ Anderson start to get the run game working with runs of 12 and 10 yards. So on 2nd and inches the Denver tries to surprise the Jets defense with a playaction shot. But Rookie FS Jamal Adams was not fooled and went up high to make the pick. The Jets then went 3 and out again just shy of the 2 min warning. After the punt left Denver at their own 6 they were content on taking things to the half in a defensive battle. But after Anderson again picked up a first down with a 11 yard run and then Jamal Charles busted one for 21 yards out to the 37 Denver decided to try and get into FG range. After an incompletion on 1st down Siemian dropped back and was sacked on 2nd down. Denver then elected to just let the clock run out to the half.
Broncos leading 7-6 at the half

The 2nd half starts with the Jets having the ball and again being shutdown in the run game. But Kaepernick finds veteran Matt Forte on his patented screen pass and it picks up 21 yards. Kaepernick is sacked on first down and throws incomplete on 2nd down leaving a 3rd and 18. Kaepernick then drops back on 3rd down only to be picked off by backup SS Will parks just across midfield. But Denver does nothing with it and goes 3 and out thanks to another holding call. The Broncos almost forced a 3 and out of their own but on 3rd and 11 Kaepernick found Rookie WR Ardarius Stewart for 35 yards and a first down. Denver forces another 3rd down but again Kaepernick finds Stewart this time for 9. Denver does get the 3rd down stop next time but the Jets have moved into FG range now and Catanzaro hits his 3rd FG of the game this one from 43 yards.
Jets take a 9-7 lead

The Broncos end the 3rd quarter with a 23 yard pass to Demaryius Thomas and start the 4th with a 6 yarder to TE Green. Then another solid run from Anderson nets another 1st down. 2 more runs from Anderson for 3 and Charles for 6 sets up a 3rd and 1. Denver tries to get cute and catch the Jets off guard with a toss but they were ready and De'Angelo Henderson was dropped for a loss of 5. K Brandon McManus came on to try and give the Broncos the lead with and 52 yard FG into a 11mph crosswind. But his kick was no good as it curled behind the upright leaving the score at 9-7.

This seemed to fire the Jets up as they had no running game all day after at 9 and 2 yard run gave them a first down. They handed one off to Matt Forte and he took off right up the gut and after some poor tackling he took it to the house for a 47 yard TD run about midway through the 4th.

16-7 Jets

Siemian is forced to open up the offense now. First down pass is broken up but he finds Lucky Whitehead for 15 and then his TE Virgil Green for 33. This is followed by a Charles run of 8. On 3rd down Siemian throws incomplete and McManus comes on to hit the FG this time from 40 and make it a one score game again.
Jets still leading 16-10

2:33 left in the game and the Broncos needing a 3 and out to have a chance. After 2 runs get them only 3 yards the Jets are left with a 3rd and 7. Kaep goes to his go-to guy Stewart again but he is tackled a yard short of the marker. 2 min warning and the Jets punt and pin the Broncos back at the 16. Denver tries to sneak a run in to start the drive but it goes nowhere. Siemian throws incomplete on 2nd down. 3rd and 9 Siemian tries to hit his rookie wideout Henderson on a stop route but the former Cowboy Mo Claiborne jumped it and strolled it back for a TD.
23-10 Jets

Only 1:16 left in the game and trailing by 2 scores the Broncos would need a miracle. Siemian tries his best to make it happen hitting Thomas for 19 yards and then Whitehead for 10 more to the midfield stripe. Then Siemian throws an absolute lazer to Whitehead down the seam and after making the safety miss he goes in for a 50 yard TD.
23-17 Jets lead

With only 21 secs left now the Broncos could only hope to recover an onside kick. But the Jets recovered it and Kaepernick fittingly takes a knee to end it.
Jets win it 23-17

This drops the Broncos to 8-5 and clinging to the final playoff spot in the AFC.

GG JerseyBorn it was a fun one to play and good luck to you the rest of the way.

Week 15 Recap:

Broncos @ Colts (Cpu)

This is a game the Broncos had to have. Barely hanging on to a playoff spot. They leaned heavily on the run game and defense in this one.
images

The Colts got the ball to start the game and they dinked and dunked their way up the field crossing into Denver territory but Aqib Talib broke up a third down pass to force a punt. Denver takes over for the first time. Anderson is stuffed on 1st down. Jamal Charles gets an early carry that goes for 10 yards and a first down. Anderson then comes back on and picks up a 17 yard run. Siemian finally attempts his first pass and he completes it to WR Henderson for 7. Anderson is then stuffed for 1 yard leaving a 3rd and 3. Siemian has his pass broken up. So McManus comes on for a 57 yard FG and just barely has enough leg but it is good.
Broncos take a 3-0 lead

The Colts next possession gets off to a fast start with Andrew Luck completing a pass to WR Donte Moncrief for 18 yards. Then the ageless Frank Gore goes for 8 yards. Luck then throws incomplete and leaves a 3rd and 2. Gore picks up the first down barely to keep the drive alive. A holding call on first down puts the Colts in a hole. Luck throws incomplete on first down and Gore picks up 5 to leave a 3rd and 15. Luck dropped back sending everyone on vertical routes. Nobody was open but the pass rush was non existent as well. So Luck just sat back and waited for WR Kamar Aiken to come back towards the ball. Luck completes it to him for a sliding 27 yard catch to the Denver 25. Frank Gore then bust loose for a 16 yard run to inside the 10. Gore then picks up minimal yards on 1st and 2nd. The 2nd quarter starts with a 3rd and goal from the six. Luck throws incomplete and Vinatieri hits a chip shot 23 yard FG.
Game tied 3-3

The Broncos go back to the run game with Charles picking up 7 and and Anderson picking up 4 for a first down. Siemian throws incomplete on first down. Anderson gets six on 2nd. 3rd and 4 Trevor Siemian hits his new favorite target WR Lucky Whitehead for a 20 yard gain down to the Colts 28. Jamal Charles then takes off for a 17 yard run to the 11. Anderson comes back in to spell him and after 2 runs the last being a 6 yard run to paydirt.
Broncos take a 10-3 lead

The Broncos defense then starts to take over nearing the midway point of the 2nd quarter by forcing a 3 and out. The Broncos then put together a methodical 12 play balanced drive consistently converting 3rd downs. But as they reached the fringes of the redzone the offense ran out of steam and McManus was forced to come on for another FG this one from 39 yards.
Broncos extend their lead to 13-3

The Colts with very little time left in the half worked their way up to midfield. This gave them an opportunity to throw a Hail Mary to end the half but Luck was picked off by backup Safety Justin Simmons to end the half.
Broncos lead 13-3 at the half

The Broncos open the second half with Siemian looking to get rolling. The first pass was incomplete but then he hit his TE Virgil Green for 14 yards. A short run from Anderson but then another completion to Carlos Henderson for 8 and a first down. Anderson picked up a solid run of 5, and then Charles picked up a 10 yard run to the Colts 29. Charles was injured on the play and may miss the rest of the season. 1st and 10 Siemian hits CJ Anderson out of the backfield for 17 yards to the Colts 12. But then the Denver offense self imploded with a run for a loss...then Siemian gets sacked for a loss of 8. Then a holding penalty has left Denver with a 3rd and 29 from the Colts 32. The Broncos decide to just take the points and run on 3rd and extra long to salvage a FG attempt which McManus hits from 45 yards.
Broncos extend lead to 16-3

The 2 teams then trade 3 and outs. The Colts pick up an initial first down to start their next drive but then go nowhere starting the 4th quarter. After getting the ball back Denver puts together a small drive picking up a couple first downs and working the clock down. On 3rd and 8 from the Colt 41 Siemian dropped back and found nobody open so he escaped the rush and took off. He came up a couple yards short but he did get into the range of McManus who came on and hit his 4th FG off the game from 52 yards.
Broncos go up 19-3

The Colts go into desperation mode and Luck started slinging the rock more like he should of been earlier in the game. Luck drove the Colts all the way down to the Broncos 17 hitting a variety of receivers. But on 4th and 4 with a FG doing no good at this point the Colts were forced to go for it, but Luck threw incomplete to end all hopes for Indy. The Broncos held onto the ball to kill the rest of the clock and pick up an important win to hang on to a playoff spot for now.
Final Score: Broncos win 19-3

This was a big but costly victory for Denver besides losing Jamal Charles for likely the season. They also lost both starting DEs Derek Wolfe and Jared Crick for the rest of the season. But they do improve to 9-5 and look to finish strong against two dangerous opponents @ Washington and finish up the season at home versus KC.

Week 16 Recap:

Broncos @ Redskins
dt.jpg

Both teams came in to this game with alot to play for with both battling for a playoff spot in their respective conferences. It was a driving rainstorm causing a muddy track and a swirling 13 MPH wind aided in less than ideal conditions.

The Broncos came out looking to throw but it was incomplete. CJ Anderson came back on 2nd down running for 4 solid yards leaving a 3rd and 6. Siemian dropped back on 3rd down and found Demaryius Thomas for 15 yards. Then after a couple runs left a 3rd and 6 again Siemian looked to get WR Emmanuel Sanders involved early being his first game back from injury. So Siemian took a shot deep down field and while the pass was incomplete Sanders did draw a pass interference call resulting in a 43 yard gain all the way down to the Washington 9 yard line. After a 1st down run was stuffed to Devontae Booker filling in as the #2 back for the injured Jamal Charles. Booker then took a toss on 2nd down and with some great blocking on the edge went in untouched from 10 yards out. Thanks to that tricky swirling wind the extra point was pushed wide right no good.
Broncos take early 6-0 lead

Washington came right back on their first possession mixing some short runs with some chunk pass plays and marched down to the Denver 16. Denver then committed a penalty of their own moving the ball inside the 10 to the Broncos 7 yard line. Backup running back Jeremy McNichols was dropped for a loss on 1st down and then McNichols dropped the 2nd down pass. Leaving a 3rd and Goal from the 9. Kirk Cousins was then sacked by Von Miller to keep the Redskins out of the endzone. Dustin Hopkins came out and hit a 31yd FG.
Broncos still leading 6-3

The Broncos next possession started with a facemask penalty that moved the ball out to midfield. Then on the very next play Denver is called for holding and is moved back 10 yards. On first and long Siemian wants to pass and he drops back and reads the coverage beautifully as he hits Emmanuel Sanders on a looping out and up move perfectly between the corner and safety. Sanders took a big hit on the sideline as he caught the ball but he held on for a 23 yard gain to the Redskins 31. After a short run Siemian thought he was feeling it after that perfect pass he threw so he dropped back and tried to hit Thomas on a comback route but miscommunication must have been the problem as Siemian threw a different route allowing CB Bashaud Breeland to get a pick at the 9 yard line. After 3 straight incomplete passes from Cousins forced a 3 and out. Denver got the ball back after a Lucky Whitehead 15 yard return a little shy of midfield. Last play of the first qtr CJ Anderson picked up 7 on first down. Then after a short run from Booker on 2nd left a 3rd and 2. Siemian shock off the INT on his last pass and read the single high safety look and threw another dime to Rookie Carlos Henderson for a 51 yard TD strike. Xtra point is good this time.
Broncos extend lead to 13-3

The Broncos nearly forced another quick 3 and out but on 3rd and 8. Cousins dropped a dime of his own to TE Jordan Reed for a big 45 yard gain to the Denver 28. But after 2 short runs and a pass breakup on 3rd down by Nickel Corner Bradley Roby. Denver forces another FG attempt. Hopkins connects again from 41 yards.
Broncos lead shrinks to 13-6

Both teams then get real defensive minded and shut both offenses down for several possessions. That was until right before the half Washington mounts a drive with under a minute remaining in the half. After picking up a first down with a pass and then run of 8 yards each to HB Robert Kelly. Cousins found WR Jamison Crowder from that college football powerhouse Duke University for 31 yards to the Denver 32 with only 23 secs remaining Cousins was able to hurry to the line and clock it with 6 secs left. But Dustin Hopkins misses a 49 yard FG to end the half.
Broncos lead 13-6 at the half

The 2nd half starts with Washington going a costly 3 and out as on 3rd down Kirk Cousins was nailed by Von Miller for his 2nd sack and Cousins landed awkwardly causing him to dislocate his elbow on his throwing arm. Broncos get setup by a 27 yard Lucky Whitehead punt return to their own 40. After 2 runs lead to nothing Trevor Siemian was able to find Carlos Henderson again for 22 yards and a 1st down. Rookie HB De'Angelo Henderson gets a rare carry for 13 more yards and another 1st down. Then Trevor Siemian could find nobody open and scrambled for 4 yards but Booker was dropped for 2 yard loss leaving a 3rd and long situation. Siemian was then picked off by Josh Norman killing a promising drive. Veteran backup Colt McCoy took over for Cousins now and after a short first down run and a facemask penalty got the drive started. McCoy completed his first pass for a short 3 yard gain. But then immediately found his TE Jordan Reed for a 28 yard gain down to the Denver 28. First down a holding penalty backs Washington up to a 1st and 20. But McCoy drops a screen pass to his backup HB Jeremy McNichols for a 20 yard gain picking up the first down in the redzone. A 12 yard run then followed for McNichols. Then Rob Kelly took back over and he ran it in from 6 yards out to tie the game up.
Game tied 13-13

Denver has a 3 and out to end the 3rd quarter and then Washington has a 3 and out to start the 2nd quarter. Denver takes over and gets 2 runs totaling 9 yards leaving a 3rd and 1. Denver is in a Jumbo formation but they go pass and find seldom used 3rd string TE AJ Derby for a 10 yard pickup. After picking up another first down thanks to another facemask penalty Denver's drive stalls on the Redskins 40 yard line. In a tie game the Broncos decide to try the 57 yard FG in these terrible weather conditions and it was not the right choice as McManus was offline on the 57 yard attempt. So Washington gets the ball near midfield now midway through the 4th quarter. They quickly pick up a 1st down to the Denver 43. But the Broncos defense bails them out and forces a Redskins punt. The punt pins the Broncos offense down at the 7 yard line with 2:51 remaining in regulation. Siemian comes out and calls a play they had been trying to set up all game long but everytime they had called it before they could not get the right look they wanted from the defense. But this time they get the single high safety look they wanted. Siemian faked the handoff to Anderson checked to see if the safety was being occupied by the post. Then he glanced and saw Demaryius Thomas streaking up the sideline all alone as Washington completely blew the coverage. Siemian surprisingly did not miss the wide open Thomas and he was gone just like that for a 93 yard quick strike TD with 2:39 left.
Broncos go back up 20-13

The Skins were left with Colt McCoy to try and lead them back but after an incomplete pass and then a sack from CB Bradley Roby left a 3rd and 18 McCoy was forced to make a throw out of desperation and it was picked off by CB Chris Harris Jr out near midfield bringing on the 2 min warning. Another Redskins facemask called giving Denver the first down they needed to just run out the clock.
Final Score Denver 20-Redskins 13

Denver clinched a playoff spot officially with this win and some losses by bubble teams. So when they take on the rival Chiefs to end the season alot of the pressure will be off them.

Great game Fskott. Good luck in the playoffs

Week 17 Recap:

Chiefs @ Broncos
USATSI_9755748.jpg

Trevor Siemian finally gets some of the haters off his back with a sharp performance against the Chiefs.

The Chiefs got the ball first and went to work with the Rookie HB Kareem Hunt picking up modest yards at a time up to midfield then Alex Smith hit his backup running back out of the backfield for a 13 yard gain. Now Denver was on their heels and Smith again dropped back and found his dangerous TE Travis Kelce for a 38 yard TD strike.
Chiefs jump out 7-0

Denver gets the ball for the first time and they methodically drive the ball down the field to the tune of a 13 play drive killing the rest of the 1st qtr. Again it was modest running mixed in with timely Siemian passes hitting 5 different targets on the opening drive capping it off starting the 2nd quarter with a playaction pass and dumping it off to his FB in the flat Andy Janovich for a 3 yard TD pass.
Game tied 7-7

The Chiefs come back out on their 2nd possession and start to get a little running game working again but this time it is the back Charcandrick West. But after picking up an initial first down the Broncos defense has seen enough and forces a punt. The Broncos offense then uses the same balanced approach on their second drive and Siemian remains red hot completing every pass on the drive including a 32 yarder to Demaryius Thomas and a 26 yarder to Carlos Henderson. Siemian again capped off the drive with a touchdown pass to his TE Virgil Green who fought off a would be tackler and then carried another in to the endzone for a 12 yard score.
Broncos take a 14-7 lead

A little over 3 mins left in the half now as time was flying by. KC has another really good start to a drive with a run by West for 16 yards and a pass to the explosive Tyreek Hill for 15 yards. Then after forcing a 3rd and 17 aided by a false start. Alex Smith hit Kelce for a 19 yard gain and a 1st down. Another false start and then a sack really helped kill this drive but Cairo Santos did have a chance to hit a 55 yard FG with just over a min left in the half but he was wide right leaving Denver with excellent field position with a minute left in the half. They quickly took advantage as Siemian quickly hit Thomas for 12 and then dumped one off to Anderson out of the backfield for 8 more. Siemian was then forced to scramble but only picked up 2 yards and was forced to burn their final timeout. But Brandon McManus came on and hit a 47 yard FG to end the half.
Denver leads 17-7 at the half

The 2nd half started with Denver having the ball first but they did not keep it very long as Siemian was picked off by CB Marcus Peters who really just made a great play on the ball not really Trevor's fault. KC started the drive with a holding call to take them out of FG range and the Denver defense would not let them back into FG range so KC punts it away pinning Denver at the 11. Siemian gets sacked on first down then completes a pass to Thomas for 13 leaving a 3rd and 2. Anderson trys to pick it up on the ground but comes up inches short. Punter Riley Dixon then booms a punt and Denver covers it well with the dangerous Hill back to receive. KC picks up 1 first down but thanks to a sack the Broncos D forces a punt. After a couple Denver runs picks up a first down this ends the 3rd quarter. Denver is then shutdown to start the final quarter and punts it back to KC. Another penalty and a sack leaves KC with a 3rd and 20. Alex Smith then scrambles for 8 yards to leave a 4th and 12. Still 7 mins remaining but down only 10 the Chiefs elect to leave the offense on the field. Smith finds WR Albert Wilson for 21 yards to keep hope alive. But this must have fired Smith up cause on the very next play he found Wilson again for a 38 yarder this puts the Chiefs at the Denver 14. Denver then shuts the drive down from there but Santos hits the FG this time from 30 with 3:58 left in the game.
Broncos lead cut to 17-10

Denver almost bust loose the kickoff but De'Angelo Henderson is brought down after a 37 yard return. 4 straight runs 2 each to Anderson and Booker picks up a first down and takes it down to the 2 min warning. Booker runs for 1 on 1st...Anderson picks up 3 on 2nd leaving a 3rd and 6. The Broncos decide they are giving the ball to Siemian and trusting he will not turn it over. Siemian gets the call and it is a simple slant call. He takes the snap and both receivers he initially wanted were covered. He steps up in the pocket and slides right looking to get out of the pocket to possibly throw it away or take off and run but the Chiefs for some reason had a spy called on Siemian so as he was sliding to his right he sees Demaryius Thomas streaking across the field open. Siemian fires on the move causing an inaccurate pass but Thomas lays out and picks up the first down to seal the victory.
Final Score: Broncos 17-Chiefs 10

This win turned out to be a big one due to the Chargers losing to the Raiders the Broncos actually ended up winning the AFC West with a final record of 11-5 and they also clinched the #2 seed and first round bye.
