2017 Season Preview

The 49'ers are looking to capitalize on a strong offseason in which the team experienced what many pundits believe may have been the strongest draft class. With several key additions on both sides of the ball and returning budding talent this may finally be the year that the 49'ers make a return to the top of the NFL.

Offense:

Quarterback: Quarterback is perhaps the biggest question mark heading into the season. Kapernick simply never seems to have the accuracy to make the required throws, the team did bring in once ballyhooed QB E.J Manuel and he may be the answer to the issues with the passing game if Kapernick is slow out of the gate. The draft did yield a rookie, but he is considered a raw talent and may need more time to develop.

Running Back: This is easily the teams deepest position with what may be the most dangerous duo in the NFL. Carlos Hyde is coming off of an impressive 20116 campaign, but he may actually be the backup to this years 14th overall pick out of Penn State in James Taylor. Taylor had a very strong preseason campaign running behind backups. Taylor does everything that Hyde can do, but also has slightly better speed and lightning quick agility that allows him to hit the hole with authority.

Wide Receiver: This is a solid group of receivers, but no elite playmakers have yet to emerge for the new look 49'ers. However, the team managed to snag Oscar Klein in the 4th round where he proved to be one of the biggest steals of the draft. Although he lacks size he may wind up being an electric playmaker in the slot position and within the kicking game.
Defense:

The defense in 2017 returns to a 3-4 look with several rookie additions and free agent pickups. In the middle Navarro Bowman returns to anchor the unit. Rookie OLB Kyran Hardy is a raw talent, but showed flashes in the preseason and may sneak into the starting lineup as the team looks to build into a contender.
