Week 16 Recap
New York Jets vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Another week, another game for the Jets as they played host to the Chargers who are in the midst of a playoff race. While the Jets, well, aren't. Head coach Todd Bowles spun his trusty arrow which landed on Bryce Petty for the second week in a row so Jets fans got to witness his greatness yet again.

The Chargers started on offense in this contest and slowly but surely worked their way down deep into Jets territory. However, their efforts stalled out and had to settle for a field goal to go up 3-0. Phillip Rivers and company did manage to run off over 7 minutes of game clock on that opening drive though. When the Jets took over, Bilal Powell got the rock on 2nd down and picked up 2 yards but James Carpenter was called for a hold which set the offense back to 2nd and 18. Petty proceeded to force a comeback route to Robby Anderson which resulted in Casey Hayward jumping the route and taking it all the way back for a touchdown. 10-0 Chargers just like that.

The proceeding Jets drive went nowhere and ended in a punt so the Chargers got the ball back. They managed to get to about midfield when Rivers threw it directly at 2nd year linebacker Jordan Jenkins who caught it and took off for a 54 yard pick 6. Extra point made the game 10-7 and the Jets were right back in it. Chargers didn't waste much time answering back on their next drive. Rivers worked the middle of the field as he hit Tyrell Williams twice for first downs to get in enemy territory and then found another Williams, the rookie Mike Williams, for a touchdown to make it a 17-7 Los Angeles lead.

Jets started with the ball in the second half. Bryce Petty started the half by finding the rookie Ardarius Stewart for a first down on a curl route. On the very next play Petty handed it off to Bilal Powell who took it up the gut, got a nice block from the center Wesley Johnson and then out ran the rest of the secondary for a 61 yard scamper to the end zone. Jets are right back in it after the extra point made it a 17-14 game. When the Chargers took over on offense they got a little help from Buster Skrine in the Jets secondary as he commits pass interference. That pushes the Chargers into Jets territory but they were eventually held to a field goal after Jordan Jenkins busted through the Chargers line for a sack to force a 4th and 16. Field goal made it 20-14.

After a few drives of no scoring from each team we find ourselves about halfway into the 4th quarter. Rivers under center at his own 43, snaps the ball, drops back and fires a bullet to Kennan Allen on a corner route to beat the man coverage and get the Chargers offense into the red zone. A few plays later Rivers launched an absolute dime over the head of the Jets corner and just enough away from the safety to find the hands of Keenan Allen for a touchdown. 27-14 Chargers after the extra point. The Jets, now in desperation mode, are forced to throw the ball if they want to catch up. Petty was not up to the challenge as he tried to force a slant route which went right at Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman. Chargers ran some clock, kicked a field goal to make it 30-14. Then Petty and the Jets, just running plays at this point try for a deep ball down the sidelines to Robby Anderson which was picked off by Tre Boston of the Chargers. Chargers took a knee and sealed the victory.

The Jets have played 4 games since the new ownership took over. Bryce Petty has started 3 of those games, Colin Kaepernick has started 1. Neither of them have looked like competent NFL QBs. The backfield tandem of Matt Forte and Bilal Powell have looked just as bad aside from the occasional run here or there. The receiving core is led by 2nd year man Robby Anderson and 3 rookies in Ardarius Stewart, Trent Taylor and Chad Williams. The good news is that there's only one week left in the season and this team will have a high draft pick plus a ton of cap space. This team could very well have new starters at every offensive position next season. This has been yet another disappointing season for the god damn Jets.

Week 17 Recap
New York Jets @ New England Patriots

To close out their season the Jets traveled to Foxborough and took on Tom Brady's Patriots. New England came into this game with their playoff spot locked up, looking forward to the playoffs, while the Jets were playing for pride or possibly even spots on next year's squad.

Brady and the Pats had the ball to start this game and managed to work their way into Jets territory rather easily thanks to receptions from Brandin Cooks and Rob Gronkowski. However, the Jets defense was actually quite solid this game and they showed that early when Demario Davis stuffed Dion Lewis short of the 1st down marker on 3rd and 1. Patriots settled for a field goal to jump off to a 3-0 lead. Then it was time for Bryce Petty's Jets. One can only assume that McCown and Kaepernick will not be brought back next season while Petty is auditioning to keep the starter job on next year's team. Petty started off strong this one too. Hooked up with Ardarius Stewart on the comeback route for a first down, then found Trent Taylor over the middle to convert on 3rd down, converted on 2nd down later in the drive with Taylor and the Jets found themselves in enemy territory. Unfortunately the drive stalled a few plays later when Petty overthrew Stewart on an out route on 3rd and 7. Cantanzaro came out and kicked a field goal to tie the game at 3.

On the Patriots next drive it the Jets managed to force a 3rd and 7 at their own 45. Unfortunately for the Jets, they were facing Tom Brady who worked his magic and found Malcom Mitchell for the first. A few plays later, now in Jets territory, Gronk came up with a big catch and got the Pats down to the 8 yard line. This is where the Jets defense showed its strength again though. On 1st and goal Jordan Jenkins sacked Brady and then on 2nd and goal Dion Lewis was stopped in the backfield by Sheldon Richardson. 3rd and goal from the 16 resulted in a completion to Rex Burkhead but was swallowed up quickly. Patriots settled for another field goal, it's now 6-3.

Move ahead a bit and we're in the 2nd half. Jets with the ball on the Patriots 45 yard line. Petty snaps the ball, drops back and fires a dime to Ardarius Stewart who's coming across the field on a crossing route. Stewart gets the Jets down to the 24 yard line. Bilal Powell then checked into the game and runs for a first down to get down to the 12 yard line. A few plays later it's 3rd and 12 and Petty tries to thread the needle to Robby Anderson in the end zone but unfortunately for them it results in an incomplete pass. Another field goal for Cantanzaro and it's all tied up at 6 with 6:22 left in the 3rd quarter.

After a drive of nothing from each team the Pats find themselves on their own 36 with 2:22 left in the 3rd quarter. Brady drops back and fires and absolute rocket downfield to a wide open Brandin Cooks in the middle of the field. Cooks snags it and waltzes into the end zone for the first touchdown of the game. Extra point makes it a 13-6 Patriots lead. Now we move ahead to the 4th quarter with the Pats on offense again. Thanks to a reception from Gronkowski they get into field goal range. The Jets defense continues to play well and holds them to a field goal attempt which Gostkowski misses. Still 13-6 and the Jets take over on offense. A few plays into the drive and the Jets are on their own 43 with a 3rd and 6. Petty hits Robby Anderson on a post to get a new set of downs and they're down to the Pats 35 yard line. Two plays later and Donta Hightower rushes past the Jets offensive line and sacks Petty to force a 3rd and 16. Patriots send their corner Eric Rowe on a blitz who hits Petty as he throws to force an incomplete pass. Field goal team comes out on 4th and 16 and Cantanzaro's kick dinks off the crossbar and out. Field goal no good.

When the Patriots got the ball back they just ran out the rest of the clock and went to the locker room with a 12-4 record heading into the playoffs. Jets, on the other hand, finish their season at 2-14 which will get them the first overall pick in the draft. Bryce Petty played a much better game than last week, meaning he didn't throw 3 picks, but he still didn't play a good game. He only completed 12 of his 22 passes for 160 yards. You could say that quarterback is this team's number one need heading into the offseason but this team has so many holes that you could say that about most of the positions.
