Shuffling the deck

Mr. Panda purchased the San Diego Chargers just yesterday and has already rolled his sleeves back and made some changes. Most recently , he changed the name of his Forum news channel to "The Daily Charge". I have to admit it has a ring to it. Stay tuned for more updates.

Trade rumors confirmed

Early today, there were rumors from an unconfirmed source stating new chargers owner, Mr.Panda, was fielding offers for the 4th round pick in the 2017 draft. That rumor was confirmed 2 hours ago when the Chargers announced they traded the pick for the Tennessee Titans FS Kevin Byard. While I applaud the move, I didn't expect Mr.Panda to get involved in trade talks so soon. With that said, they needed to get younger at the position as both FS's on the roster were above the age of 28 and on the final year of their contracts. This move gives the position a young talent that has some upside.

Embarrassing Loss

The Chargers did not come to play in their game against the New Orleans Saints. Phillip Rivers threw 3 interceptions although two of them came off tipped passes, and the offense gave up a total of 5 turnovers. That's just not winning football. They couldn't get anything going on offense until the final minutes of the 4th quarter where TE Darren Waller caught a one handed TD pass to give San Diego their only points of the night. There's a lot to be said for the loss of 3 starters to injury in receivers Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin and HB Melvin Gordon. This team has a lot of work ahead of them if they plan to make something of this season.

Final Chance

Trent Richardson has endured a lot of scrutiny bouncing from team to team trying to earn a spot on a roster. Those attempts have repeatedly fallen short of that goal. Most recently he was cut by the Ravens due to an injury. After a few months of rehabbing and staying in shape, he recieved a call from the HB needy Chargers. Since Melvin Gordon went down with the dislocated elbow, the chargers running game has taken a hit. Danny Woodhead is a great 3rd down back but he is not very good in pass protection and getting the tough yards between the tackles. Richardson had a limited role in the game vs the Saints but sources inside the organization tell me that we can expect his role to increase exponentially. I wouldnt be surprised to see him as the 1&2nd down back while they use Danny Woodhead on 3rd downs. While I'm not confident that Trent Richardson will make a successful comeback, the opportunity is there for him to do. This is likely his last chance to play in the NFL as he turns 27 next year. Best of luck the kid!

Ship Sinking

The chargers have looks lost in their last 3 games, all of which have resulted in blowout losses. It's obvious that they lost their playmakers to injury but that doesn't explain why Rivers has thrown 8 interceptions in the last 3 games. Something needs to change and fast. It's only been 2 weeks but it seems the Trent Richardson experiment has failed and the team needs to simply move on. Mr. Panda has some huge problems on his hands and if he doesn't get them fixed soon, the season will be over before it started.

Nightmare in San Diego

Phillip Rivers threw 6 interceptions against a Falcons defense that looked like they were primed for a super bowl. This chargers offense is pitiful and that's saying it mildly. They are all out of excuses. No more feel bad stories. This team has a decision to make. Either play football or be the mud on the bottom of the NFL's boot as the worst team in recent history. Seriously!!! 6 interceptions? That's makes Rivers interception total 13 in the last 4 games. That's an average of 3.25 interceptions per game. That's losing football and that's getting a Coach and possibly a GM fired when it's all said and done. At this point, is like to call into question the new owner, Mr. Panda, and his philosophy for the team. Since he took over, the team is 1-3. Not just 1-3, but with a turnovers issue and a QB who is primed for the HOF who is looks like he doesn't want to be out there on the field. The city of San Diego deserves a better effort from this team. More specifically it's offense. Big changes appear to be on the horizon.

Healthy Roster

The chargers were bit by the injury bug early on in the season having most of its offensive playmakers out for multiple weeks. Those players included WR Keenan Allen, HB Melvin Gordon, WR Travis Benjamin, and even newly acquired return specialist WR Shane Wynn. Everyone with the acception of Wynn, is back from injury. I spoke to Keenan Allen and here is what he had to say. "It's been hard sitting on the sidelines watching Philip struggle the way he has. Once the medical team cleared me to return a week early from injury I was very vocal about playing to my coach but he insisted that I only play if someone else went down. I understood why but next week this team produces on offense. If I have to carry the team alone, I will." Clearly some frustrations reside in Alllens remarks and for good reason. The team has 9 games left to turn things around and make something of this season. All we can do is wait and see.

The Chargers have been purchased by new owner Derek Williams. Let's hope that he has a great vision for the franchise.
