Seattle Seahawks Midseason Report
Record: 3-5
The 2016 Seahawks started the season with a bang. A big win over the Miami Dolphins in week 1 that included 6 takeaways had fans shouting “Super Bowl’. This was short lived, though as Seattle dropped their next 5 games in a row. Injuries, turnovers and bad penalties at crucial times have been a major theme for the ‘Hawks this season. And though things have been looking bleak, this team has managed to put it together quite nicely in recent weeks, amounting to wins in their last 2 games. Seattle eked out a 17-15 victory over the Saints in week 8 and then brought the heat against the Buffalo Bills in week 9, forcing 6 turnovers for the 2nd time this season.
Among the Seahawks key injuries were Javon Kearse, Tyler Lockett, Henry Melton and Kam Chancellor who all missed multiple weeks during Seattle's 5 loss skid. Lockett will miss the next 3 games along with Jimmy Graham who are dealing with a dislocated elbow and a shoulder tear respectively.
The Seahawks are 31st in total offense after 8 games, 31st in passing touchdowns, and dead last in penalty yards, but also rank 9th in total defense, and 2nd in defensive red zone percentage.
Of Seattle's 5 losses, 2 were overtime losses and 4 have been within 1 score. The Seahawks face a tough schedule in the second half of the season with games against the Patriots, Eagles, Panthers and Packers before a stretch of 3 division games to round out the season.
The Seahawks currently sit in 4th place, 1 game behind the Cardinals in the NFC West
