Press: Nice win at home. But the big story is Rioll Taylor, the HB drafted in the 6th round last year, finally has a chance on the field and as we saw today made the most of it. 81 yards rushing, averaging 3.7 yards a carry and ran in 2 touchdowns. First game this year the Vikings have had a running game worth noting. What does this mean going forward? Is he going to be named the starting HB over McKinnon and take the place of Peterson?

Coach: Yes, Taylor did an awesome job today of protecting the ball and making some big plays. We told him, if he can show us he can handle the ball, we'll keep feeding him. When you get these rookie players, they are very excited to show off, but tend to mishandle the ball and he has worked real hard at that and it showed today. So very proud of his efforts. As far as the starting job, we are going to take it slow, not making any rash decisions off of one game. We picked this matchup because we felt it was conducive to a new player get his feet wet. At home, not against a team with an overpowering run defense. He passed his first test, but many more test to come and of course we brought in a halfback that was similar in Peterson style of running to compliment what we have in McKinnon. We are all aware Peterson is at end of a stellar career, so we have to be prepared for any decisions he makes.

Press: The fans are extremely excited about the Vikings having a running game again. A lot feel this is why we finally saw some bigger plays down field opening up, such as the Kearse 65 yard Touchdown. This game you put up more points than you have all year. Doesn't it make sense to continue along this path?

Coach: A running game does definitely open up more opportunities. Like we've been saying all along this has been one of our priorities to address. However, feel there is a time for everything. We wanted to be sure he was ready, and we didn't want to jump the gun, he has a bad game and loses confidence in the work we've done in practice with him.

Press: A lot of the sports community was surprised at Taylor's performance today, being a 6th round pick, not very highly rated as running back, what did you see in him that nobody else was seeing?

Coach: He is a great kid, works hard. I remember when we drafted him, even being 6th round he was so excited to come and get to work behind one of the greatest running backs that he looked up to and followed all his life. Didn't care how long it took to get a start. But skills wise, he has speed, great moves with the ball to get past defenders and he is the kind of back you can easily give the ball to every down, great stamina keeps it moving. In the locker room we call him the energizer bunny always ready to go. A great open canvas to work with, we're happy with our decision on bring him in.

Press: Back to the passing game, Kearse had a great day. Bridgewater was able to connect with Kearse on a big 65 yard touchdown pass play, his longest all season. Not huge numbers, but no interceptions. What do you credit to that?

Coach: Sometimes those big pass plays are just a product of the matchup, we play to what the defense gives us. They had P.J Dawson covering him and we were noticing the mismatch there, and the offensive line did a great job of giving Bridgewater time and see Kearse get open and take advantage of it. Kearse has definitely proven his self as a go to guy since he has been here. One of our most consist receivers.

Press: Kyle Rudolph had a decent game as well, another one that knows how to make plays. You guys are starting to build up some weapons out there on offense. You have some other guys, folks feel should be utilized more. Randle hasn't had much of an impact as he did last season. Wallace has also had a somewhat disappointing season thus far. Can you give us your thoughts on what that is ?

Coach: We take note of that and look at ways to use them. What it comes down to is who is making those plays when you need them to. Unfortunately, we've seen more drops and incomplete passes to those guys then we'd like and you can't win a game with too many of those. We are working on trying to find the right place on the field to give these guys more favorable matchups so they can be productive without disrupting what we already have. These guys do provide benefits in their presence that allow the other to get open, being a distraction, making blocks, so it's not like they are not a productive part of this team.

Press: Thanks for your time, and next week you guys have a well-deserved Bye week, that I'm sure you're looking forward to. Then back to work the following week, in Baltimore against the Ravens, which we are all interested in seeing if this new found running game continues.View attachment 1659 View attachment 1659 View attachment 1659 View attachment 1659
