Chiefs get their man
The Chiefs are pleased to announce the signing of Kirby Smart as their defensive coordinator. Smart has signed a 3 year deal to coach the team and will serve as assistant head coach under Steve Lawson. Smart comes in with a healthy resume that includes stints as administrative assistant at the University of Georgia, Valadosta State as defensive coordinator, grad assistant at Florida State under Bobby Bowden, defensive backs coach at LSU, running backs coach at Georgia, safeties coach with the Miami Dolphins, assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Alabama , where he won the Broyles Award as the nations best assistant coach and head coach at the University of Georgia. We are pleased to have Kirby under contract and working for us here in KC. Smart will begin work immediately and we are announcing the Chiefs will run with the KC defensive book for season 1.
