Redskins Charge out of LA with a Win

When Zach Brown left the Buffalo Bills and gambled on himself with a 1 yer deal this was the type of season saving game he envisioned. Led by his stellar play in the middle the Washington Redskins went into Los Angeles and got a season saving win against the 8-3-1 Chargers team that is in the hunt for the number 1 seed in the AFC.

From the onset the Redskins dictated terms, as Kirk Cousins led a drive to open the scoring 7-0. Then Brown, the 6th year LB out of North Carolina jumped a sit down route from TE Hunter Henry and raced 40 yards for his first of two pick 6's. While taking a 22-0 lead late in the first half the Redskins with back up RB Samaje Perine in the game to salt away the final play before regrouping to a wild second half, the Chargers were playing for a pass. Thinking Washington wasn't going to settle for the lead they were currently enjoying.

As it turned out, the Redskins got 3 massive blocks on the play and Perine untouched (except by his own lineman) scampered 65 yards at the final whistle of the half to make it 29-0 Redskins. During the second half Phillip Rivers tried to rally his Chargers back in the game, cutting the lead to 10 and having two chances to make it a one score game. On both occassions the Washington defense stiffened and held to preserve the 10 point victory.

After the game I caught up with Zach Brown and asked him about the 2nd pick 6 that went for a 99 yard score, he said "Right now everyone in our unit feels responsible for last weeks poor showing in Dallas. We felt that to give the team a chance to pick up this big road win we needed to play complimentary football... Mission accomplished."

As the team got ready to head out of LA and catch their flight back to the Nations Capital, Kirk Cousins asked a reporter how the Eagles game ended, the results were not what he wanted to hear, as Philadelphia also won in LA today, beating the Rams 30-20, and keeping pace with their division rivals. Now they both wait for the Cowboys and Giants to renew their rivalry and make this a 3 team race with 3 games to play. It sure looks like the NFC East champion this year will be playing playoff football a whole month before the rest of the league begins its quest for the Lombardi Trophy.game-recap-15o7w.png
