Kent State Commitments (Thru Week 8)

Brandon Hawkins - 6'3 286 - Offensive Tackle - Carol Stream, IL - ***

Has good size and is a decent to good athlete for someone of his stature. Has good initial pop and can drive defenders backwards. Doesn't possess great technique and isn't the strongest guy on the line but still generate a good deal of power off the line.

J.T. Williams - 6-0 296 - Center - Marion, OH - ***

Is a decent athlete who can pull and trap. Has good strength and can hold the pint of attack in the run game. Isn't overly powerful though. Is not a mauler. Strength is his best asset but will get beat by better technicians.

Ricky Payne - 6-4 262 - Defensive End - Fostoria, OH - ** (JUCO)

Has good size for a 4-3 end but is slightly undersized for the 3-4. Is a decent athlete with fair to good speed. Could be a good edge rusher. May not be more than a situational end in the 3-4.

Karl Hancock - 6-4 285 - Center - New Kensington, PA - * (JUCO)

Possesses great size and has a great first step. Is effective as a blocker in both running and passing schemes. Does not have elite strength and can get pushed around. Has the ability to develop into a solid all around blocker.

Kent State Recruiting Report

The Golden Flashes gained commitments from two more athletes this week bringing their season total to six so far. One of the recruits, Lamar Mason, is a 4-star prospect from Columbus. While Ohio State did not appear to court the speedy back, his interest initially was with west coast teams Oregon, Stanford and Cal. The signing for Kent State indicates how far this team has come in the past few years.

Lamar Mason - 5-8 192 - Halfback - Columbus, OH - ****

Small in stature but makes up for it with his ability in the open field. Has above average moves and can make defenders miss. Has an effective stif arm despite his size. Has had some issues holding onto the ball. Can get beaten up by larger defensive players. More fast than quick. Doesn't have a great second gear. Builds to top speed. Projects as a backup and possibly change of pace back.

Randall Jones - 6-2 303 - Defensive Tackle - Burbank, IL - ***

Good all around player. Does not display elite skills in any one are but does not have a significant weakness either. Doesn't have great strength for his size but makes up for it with solid technique. Probably will not dominate at the collegiate level but should become as reliable starter.

Tulane signs 3 more recruits this week.

Alfred Is part of a future plan. Tulane's current OLB are both SO. Alfred is only 3 points behind the current starters so when it is his turn this position will be improved.

Tulane is very concerned about the OL next year with 3 SR leaving. Overstreet skill are mediocre at best but has the size to compete for a spot. He will probably be a back up until he improves.

With both starting WR being SR this was a key recruit for them to fill a void. He is a decent all around receiver with a speed rating of 91.

UNLV COMMITS 4 RECRUITS
Through 10 weeks the 3-7 Rebels have only signed 4 recruits. In what is UNLV's worst year under Coach Bubba Gump, spirits are still high. They ran an offense this year no one was familiar with, and Coach Gump has said theyre going to go back to basics next year, and go with what brought them success in 2014 when they went 10-4. The Rebel team is young, and with these new recruits, speculation says in the next 2 or so years, UNLV might be a well known school.
Greg Barrett, athelete out of Muskego Wi, is the highest recruit UNLV has gotten this year. In high school, he was an iron man athelete playing both HB/WR on offense, and S/CB on defense. Coach Gump has not stated how they will utilize him yet, but one thing is he is going to be electric. Greg was highly recruited from schools such as PSU, Mich, USC, Pitt, UGA and Ohio St. and somehow ended up at UNLV. Word is he wanted to go to a smaller school, for a bigger chance to be a superstar. UNLV doesn't care the reasoning, they are just glad to have him.
John Scott is a rated 3 star TE out of Oklahoma. He is definatley a weapon in an offense more than a blocker. His blocking could use some work, but should improve over time. He will really be a threat being a reciever out of that position. UNLV had beat out Oregon for John. John Scott will be an immediate starter, because both of UNLV's TE's graduate this year. That was one of the selling points for Scott, is that he would jump in and play right away. UNLV is still searching for a counterpart for Scott. Reports are showing that that counterpart may be Matt Poole, a 6'7 252 pound TE from Forestdale, AL. That would be a dangerous duo.
Adam Goss is a kid Coach Gump has known for a while. Coach Gump faced Adam Goss and the South Garland High School program when he was coaching at Southlake Carol. Gump knew this kid was going to be something great, and was happy to recruit him. UNLV basically ripped him out of Tulane's hands. He is smart and has great knowledge of the game, but his feet still need a little work to get on the college level. With 3 G's graduating from UNLV this year, Goss may get a shot to start, but UNLV also has 2 solid FR G in the hole, so it looks like theres going to be a competition this spring to see who will get the starting job.
Alex Walter is a punter. That is all.

Kent State Commitments (Week 12)

The Golden Flashes' win over Northern Illinois last week proved to be a big recruiting pitch for the school as they received seven more commitments following the thrilling win. The Golden Flashes now have 13 commits for the 2016 recruiting class and are currently ranked with the #32 recruiting class in the nation by ESPN.com

Jeff Lee - 6-1 220 - Linebacker - Bexley, OH - ***

Has good speed and decent range. Is a solid wrap up tackler. with decent pop and strength. Can rush the passer when needed but is not an elite rusher. Can shed blocks and make plays. Lacks an ideal motor. Doesn't always play to the whistle. Struggles in coverage. Projects as possibly a passing down speed rusher.

Kevin Gilmore - 5-9 205 - Halfback - Landen, OH - ***

Has a stocky frame with good size in his lower body. Doesn't have great speed or strength but plays with good pad level. Is elusive in the open field. More quick than fast. Has had troubles holding onto the ball. Not a great receiver out of the backfield. Does well in pass protection. Has an outside shot of developing into a starter. Has a unique skillset that is hard to project.

Ben Jackson - 6-5 247 - Tight End - Bonita Springs, FL - ***

Has terrific size and strength. Plays with good technique in run blocking. Is an effective drive blocker. Doesn't possess the best hands but can go up and get balls in traffic. Runs good routes and can get open. Has the ability to be good to great.

John Wiggins - 6-2 327 - Defensive Tackle - Coral Terrace, FL - ***

Very good size and strength. Can absorb double teams in the run game. Effective at shedding blocks and making tackles. Not an elite athlete. Strictly a one gap player. Doesn't always wrap up the ball carrier. Not overly effective in the pass rush. Will likely just be a 1st and 2nd down player but is probably better suited for a 4-3.

Nick Bonner - 6-2 305 - Offensive Guard - Manassas, VA - * (JUCO)

A very good pass blocker who plays with great technique. Get his hips squared and keeps his center of gravity low. Has good pop off the line. Not overly powerful though. Not an effective drive blocker. Decent athlete but not a great pull or trap blocker. Fits best on a pass heavy team.

Clint Johnson - 6-0 171 - Cornerback - Kalamazoo, MI - ***

Excellent cover corner with very good technique. Has very good play recognition. Is rarely out of position. Shadows his man well and doesn't take unnecessary risks. Has good speed but is not a great athlete. Uses technique to keep himself out of trouble. Has good pop when tackling but gets over aggressive at times and tries to make the big hit. Will not be great in run support. Purely a cover corner.

Ben Sherman - 6-7 295 - Offensive Tackle - Wekiva Springs, FL - ***

Large body with good size and strength. Although an effective blocker, his size does force him to give away some leverage. Otherwise does use his size and strength effectively. Is an OK athlete but can get beat around the edge. Most effective in phone booth. Should be a solid all-around tackle.

Caleb looks to be the QB of the future for the Bulldogs, with Coach Cieske making it well known that he would like to transition to the Flexbone Jones could see playing time sooner rather then later.

ScreenHunter_68 Oct. 22 20.45.jpg
J.J. is a very athletic DE who could see some playing time his freshman year, particularly during passing situations.

ScreenHunter_69 Oct. 22 20.45.jpg

Russ will reshirt his freshman year and could see playing time soon after.

ScreenHunter_69 Oct. 22 20.46.jpg
Dawson may never see the field unless there is an injury. He was signed as a back-up plan.

ScreenHunter_70 Oct. 22 20.46.jpg

Bell's speed is intriguing, he will redshirt so he can develop further but could be a force with in a few years.

ScreenHunter_71 Oct. 22 20.46.jpg

Beau will look to get playing time his freshman year with MSU losing its best MLB and not having any depth at the position
