Niners Nation

Texans at Niners

Week 1 of preseason finally kicked off in San Francisco hosting the Texans. So many questions leading into this season for the 49ers. Will Gabbert secure the starting position or will Kaepernick overtake Blaine. Who will be the answer at Wide Receiver the niners need? Are they actually a team to compete or just rebuild?

Owner Selke came into week one wanting to get a look at who will thrive and who will fall. Will players separate themselves or will more questions arise.

Starting with the first team Gabbert went 1-4 with no TDs or Interceptions as the niners elected to give the rock to what they hope can be their 3 down back in Carlos Hyde and he did not disappoint. Hyde ripped off a 45 Yard TD run ending his night 6 attempts for 66 yards further cementing his role as the alleged week 1 starter.

Due to Gabbert low efficiency in the 1st quarter the 49ers elected to bring in Kaepernick to see him get some reps in. He ended up posting a moderate 4-6 with 45 yards and no TDS or INTs however had a very good run which he she'd defenders for a nice 13 Yard rushing gain

After Gabbert and Kaepernick got some reps Coach Chip Kelly wanted to see his reserves and brought in Jeff Driskel who had a remarkable 2nd half against the 2nd stringers of Houston going 10-12 and 2 TDs letting San Francisco management that the battle for starters might not just be between Gabbert and Kaepernick.

Chip Kelly voiced his opinions after the game. "Jeff played very well. We are still reviewing our players. We are not committing to a starting QB at this time."

With the Texans they saw life in all fashions with both there run game and passing attack.

Racking up over 9 yards per attempt average between there backs. Along with a heavy dose of Jalen Strong who was rumored to be on the trade block up until game time. I guess his 5 Recovery 84 yard game might call Coach
Bill O'Brien to question if Strong should be on the block.

Other notable stats
Houston turnovers 3 time by Interception gave them a -3 in turnover ratio

Final Score OT
San Francisco 25
