New York Times Jets Report: Hinkie's Way

Another franchise controlled by general manager Sam Hinkie, another franchise in the bottom seller of the league. The New York Jets find themselves mired in the losing ways of the former 76ers GM and there's no looking back now if you are a fan. This team is in for a long ride. While there are always bright spots on his teams, like Nerlons Noel being a defensive force for the Sixers, there's a long list of other things not going well. For the Jets, it's almost all bad. The former management had decided to extend longtime center staple Nick Mangold, Sam Hinkie took one look at that contract and said absolutely not, cutting him upon arriving with the team. While financially this made sense, the team is seeing the results of cutting a veteran, known talent. The group of quarterbacks the Jets have put out have been the most hurried in the league and it cost Ryan Fitzpatrick the remainder of the season in all likelihood.

The Jets are on the hunt for a top pick in this year's upcoming draft, however, the teams that are at the bottom of the league are also stuck in the L column. If the season ended now, the Jets would only have a pick around 8-12, not nearly as high as they would care for. With a losing streak like they are on, the fans would love to see those losses at least turn into a top 5 pick. The one thing that Hinkie has going for him is his track record for turning losing into draft picks. After his tenure, the Sixers have shown that they have a lot of talent and value from following the process that Hinkie employed.

Either way, this is New York City. The fans are clamoring for a championship. One thing we know, if Sam Hinkie cannot turn this around, there will be consequences, ones much like those that happened in Philadelphia.
