I mentioned last week that I'd sit down with the owner to talk about his thoughts on the Jets' upcoming schedule. No better time than now as the Jets officially start the 2016 season hosting the Bengals later today. I was able to get a hold of the owner, Kutsch47, this morning. Here's the schedule, lets see what Kutsch47 has to say:
Kutsch47: As the owner of the team, I have extremely high expectations week in and week out for our organization. I believe we have the ability and right group of guys to compete with any team. However, I'm not going to tell you we're going to go undefeated. I'll leave that for Rex Ryan and the guys in Buffalo to say. When I sat down with the coaches and decision makers of this organization, we set particular goals and expectations. One of them was to improve on last year. And by that, I mean making the playoffs. We lost to Buffalo in a "win and you're in" situation. That was devastating for our players, coaches, and most importantly- our passionate fanbase. This season will definitely be a disappointment if we fail to make the playoffs again. The coaches know that, and so do the players. But that's because we believe we belong in the playoffs.
Manish Mehta: You have eyes on the playoffs even with that brutal schedule? WFAN's Boomer & Carton and Mike Francesca were saying that you should be happy and lucky to survive the first six games just going 3-3. How do you feel about that?
Kutsch47: You're right, we absolutely have a tough schedule. I could give the cliche, boring comment that "Oh, every team in the NFL is tough and we have to take it one game at a time", but that's wasting my time and your time if I'm going to give you answers like that. I want to be completely transparent with the fans. I'll admit, the first six games of this schedule are brutal. They're going to be tough. But I think those six teams are looking at the Jets on their schedule thinking the same thing. At least their quarterbacks are thinking that when they'll have Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, and Leonard Williams breathing down their neck. Lets dive into this schedule though.
Week 1: We start off the season home against the Bengals. They were a fantastic team last year, at least in the regular season. This is going to be a dog fight for sure, but I think our fans and team will be excited and get off to a fast start. Prediction: Win
Week 2: I'd be lying if I said I didn't have the Bills circled on our schedule. We lost to them twice last year, including that disappointing "win and you're in" game I mentioned earlier. We'll be out for revenge Prediction: Win
Week 3: This is going to be a tough one, going into Arrowhead Stadium against the Chiefs. Their home field advantage might be the edge in this one. Prediction: Loss
Week 4: Seattle is a much different team on the road. They're a Super Bowl contending team for sure, but I think our 12th man shows them their no joke either. Prediction: Win
Week 5: Pittsburgh never fails to give us a hard time; whether it's in the playoffs or regular season. That offense scares me, despite our fantastic defense. And it's in Pittsburgh. Prediction: Loss
Week 6: I watched that Amazon feature on the Cardinals over the summer and just confirmed my man crush on Bruce Arians as a coach. I think he's one of the best in the league. They've got a great freakin team too. This is another away game for us, but I think our team shows their resiliency after losing to the Steelers and pulls off the upset as the road dog. Prediction: Win
Week 7: Finally back home after two tough road games. I've always been a fan of Flacco's cannon of an arm since he came out of college, but I'm just not scared of this Ravens team like I have been in years past. They'll definitely be better than last year though. Prediction: Win
Week 8: Going into the Dawg Pound and taking on the Browns. The Browns are widely considered to be the laughing stock of the league, but we cannot overlook them. They always give us a good fight. It certainly won't be an easy win having to take them on on their own turf. Prediction: Win
Week 9: I'm curious to see how this Dolphins team will come out this season. They had such high expectations last year and fell flat on their face. But there's definitely optimism in Dolphins' camp under their new coaching regime. Until they show me something, I'm not scared of them. Prediction: Win
Week 10: I was really hoping we could go into LA and play the Rams so I'd have an excuse to go to SoCal in mid November and escape the cold, but we'll be just as happy to beat them in New York. Well, technically, in New Jersey. Prediction: Win
Week 11: Bye
Week 12: Ahh the Patriots. Not much to be said about this one. David vs. Goliath. I'm predicting a split on the regular season series against the Pats. Good guys win this one at home and on Primetime TV. Prediction: Win
Week 13: Monday night game against one of the best young QBs in the league in Andrew Luck. He disappointed me last year on my fantasy team, but I think he stays healthy this year and has a bounce back year. We beat him last year in Indy, they might get their revenge on us in our own home as we come off an emotional victory against the Patriots. Prediction: Loss
Week 14: Looks like I do get to go to SoCal in the winter after all as we take on the 49ers in their beautiful stadium. You know what's funny, I was playing my Franchise in Madden 17 the other day and noticed the 49ers fired Chip Kelly after 1 season. Turns out they went 0-16. I think they'll be a little bit better than that, but looks like even Madden doesn't have high hopes for Chip Kelly and the 49ers this year. Prediction: Win
Week 15: Taking on the Dolphins again, but this time at home. Gonna be tough to beat them twice this season. Prediction: Loss
Week 16: Well, back to New England for round 2 against the Patriots. Prediction: Loss
Week 17: Head into week 17 in the same situation as last year. Sitting at 10-5 against the Bills, in what looks like could be another "win and you're in" situation. I think we give them a taste of their own medicine by sweeping the series and finally taking care of business to clinch a berth in the playoffs. Prediction: Win
And that folks, is how the Jets go 11-5 to make the playoffs. Once you're in the playoffs, anyone can make a run to the Super Bowl. The 9-7 Giants showed us just that in 2011 when they squeaked into the playoffs and took down the big bad Patriots once again for another Super Bowl.
