Position Battles: OFFENSE
QB - Osweiler 77, Weeden 72, Savage 65
Oz has the inside track as team ownership dropped a stockpile of cash on Brock to sway him away from Denver - He has a rocket arm and a fresh start and has looked sharp early on in camp - Weeden and Savage will compete for the 2nd spot ... Good things come with both players ... Weeden brings experience and Savage adds another strong arm ... if Oz were to get hurt, you might possibly see these two platoon

HB - Miller 88, Blue 76, Grimes 73, Ervin (R) 67, Hunt 62
Lamar Miller tested the Free Agency market this offseason and the Texans rewarded him with a hefty contract to compliment Oz - Miller's blazing speed will give the Texans a dimension that has been sorely lacking for years - Look for Blue to get some spot carries to rest Miller ... To date, Grimes has given a lackluster performance ... Rookie Ervin and 2nd yr veteran Hunt are competing to overtake that 3rd spot ... both guys have that extra gear to outrun opponents but will need some development - Neither would be expected to make an immediate impact this season

FB - Prosch 81
By default Prosch wins the job - His role will be strictly to blow open holes for Miller ... easy enough, right? Well lets hope so ... Its always nice to have a blocking back that can lead the way for a star HB

TE - Fiedorowicz 77, Griffin 72, Tomlinson (R) 64, Anderson (R) 63
CJ has established himself as the leader of this young group ... Now in his 2nd year he is clearly the #1 TE and its not even close ... His best attribute is RBK and he will be expected to take on some of the best DEs in the game and set the edge for HB Miller to break free ... The group as a whole will need to develop pass catching skills if they plan to factor into the passing game ... Look for rookies Tomlinson and Anderson to compete for the 3rd spot into the last week of preseason ... The Texans plan to only carry 3 TEs so one could move to the practice squad

WR - Hopkins 93, Fuller V (R) 74, Shorts III 73, Strong 73, B. Miller (R) 71, Mumphrey 63
A young, talented and electrifying group of receivers with big play ability - Hopkins leads the way after establishing himself as one of the best in the business - Look for the top rated CBs to match up with him every down - Rookie Fuller out of Notre Dame has impressed early on ... his speed is top level and he will stretch the field and challenge teams which could make guys like Strong and B. Miller open underneath - Strong is an extremely reliable receiver with a reliable pair of hands - Braxton comes in with a highly unique set of skills ... he has speed, can catch the ball, and juke / spin his way out of any situation ... Mumphrey tends to be the odd man out as he is lacking the talent to surprise the rookies this year

O Line - Brown 86, Newton 82, Allen 78, Clark ,75 Adams 73, Martin (R) 73, Su'a-filo 71, McDonald 70
The offensive line needs some work if they plan to protect both Oz and Lamar - The two starting tackles are the two best players on the line in Brown and Newton - Brown excels at PBK where as Newton is more of a road grader with a high RBK - These two offset one another and have been working this offseason to improve upon their weaknesses - Adams, Su'a-filo, and the rookie Martin make up the interior O line and are currently penciled in on the depth chart - Adams looks to be the only one that has secured a starting spot as Su'a-filo and Martin will need some 'On The Job' training in hopes of developing quickly ... Clark and Adams are currently listed as backup tackles but both could easily step into a starting role if the two youngsters Su'a-filo and Martin continue to struggle ... expect the battle for starting RG and C to run through the final week of preseason play, possibly into the first few weeks of the season!
