Game Recaps

Not open for further replies.
At the simplest, I'd like everyone to do a short summary of their game each week so the rest of the league can kind of get an idea of how it went. The New Gen leagues can just stream their games on twitch and everyone else can watch, but since we don't have that feature, we'd like to still do the best we can with this.

The Recaps can be as long (write-ups, fake interviews, in-depth play-by-play accounts, etc) or as short (notable stats, box scores, a sentence or two on how you felt you did, etc) as each person wants them to be, provided they give a clear picture of how the game went.

Just make sure you add this information to it

  • Week #
  • Teams and their records
  • Final Score

If its a user vs. user game, then either user can create a recap, but we at least want one of them to. The default person will be the winner if both don't want to create one

Preseason Week 1
(alpaca16) Seattle Seahawks: 34 (1-0)
(CPU) Denver Broncos: 24 (0-1)

It was a rainy night at mile high stadium in Denver. Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos won the toss and elected to receive. Unlike the Super Bowl six months ago, where the Seattle defense started hot, the defense tonight came out sluggish. Montee Ball ran the ball down the defense's throat, and by the time they thought they had him figured out, Ball slipped out of the grasp of Jeremy Lane and ran into the end zone for a 17 yd touchdown.
Wilson and the Seahawks came onto the field with 4:47 left into the first. On a third and 3 play, Lynch took a handoff and ran it off the left tackle for a 50 yd gain. The drive was capped off with a four yd scamper off of a play action from Russell Wilson.
As Brock Osweiler came onto the field to replace Manning and the first team offense, the Seattle defense sparked to life. Denver went three and out and Seattle took over at midfield. On a 3rd and 15 play, rookie WR Kevin Norwood out of Alabama made the catch of the night, using his tall frame to block out two defenders as he leapt into the air and snagged the pass off of an out route, making sure to get both feet in bounds. The play was reviewed but the catch would stand. The drive was later capped off with a 6 yd pitch and catch to rookie RB Christine Michael. After a 49 yard Prater field goal, Tavaris Jackson and the Seahawks took over at their own 20 for a two minute drill. After a few near interceptions, Jackson managed to lead the offense down the field for a 27 yard field goal by Steven Hauschka as time expired.
Halftime score
SEA - 17
DEN - 10
Seattle got the ball to start the third quarter. Jackson and the Seahawks went three and out, and the Broncos took over at their own 40. On the second play from scrimmage, Osweiler zipped a strike to rookie Cody Latimer on a slant, who cut upfield as safety Will Hill slipped on the wet turf. Latimer turned on the jets and ran in for an 81 yard score.
Seattle offense once again got the ball at their own 21. Another three and out helped along by a sack from Duke Ihenacho led to another punt. Punter Jon Ryan sent a line drive downfield, and the wet ball was muffed by returner Aqib Talib. He turned around and scooped the ball up but was popped by Earl Thomas III. Talib lost the ball once again and it was picked up by Bruce Irvin of Seattle, who ran it back 33 yards for the score.
After a few punts by both teams, followed by a short drive from Seattle capped by a 23 yd field goal, Denver got the ball. This time it was the fourth round pick out of Boston College Kevin Pierre-Louis who came up big with sacks on first and second down, and a big hit on CJ Anderson on a third down screen pass. Denver was forced to punt and Seattle took over near midfield.
On a third and 6 play, Robert Turbin
sprinted around the edge for a 49 yard
run, where he was tackled at the 1. After unsuccessful runs on first and second down, Christine Michael leapt over the pile for a 3 yard touchdown on third down.
The score was now 34-17, and Denver was just looking to see what Osweiler could do with a two minute drill. After three and outs on his previous three drives, Osweiler composed himself and led his offense beautifully down the field. He hit Cody Latimer once again on an out route for a 16 yd touchdown with 32 seconds left in the game. Denver was no longer playing for the win, and kicked the ball deep for a touchback. Jackson and the second stringers came onto the field in the victory formation to finish the game.

Preseason Week 2
Seattle Seahawks (1-0) vs.
San Diego Chargers (0-1)
It was a rainy night in Seattle, but the 12th man was louder than ever. Seattle won the toss and elected to kick, to showcase their stellar defense on the field first. On the opening drive the Rivers led the chargers downfield due to magnificent passing, with Novak capping off the drive with a 35 yard field goal. Seattle came on to the field and it was all business for Marshawn Lunch, who ran for 52 yards on 6 carries including a 9 yard touchdown run. After a three and out by San Diego, Seattle took over at midfield after a bad punt. On the second play of the drive, Kevin Norwood once again made the catch if the night, this time out of the slot. On a play action, Tavaris Jackson, facing a blitz, lobbed the ball up amidst two defenders, yet Norwood managed to come down with the catch, being tackled on the 1. Turbin would later smash it in from 2 yards out. The chargers would get the ball back but on a 3rd and 7 play, a slant pass to Danny Woodhead across the middle was a perfect setup for SS Jerome Johnson, who blindsided the running back who fumbled the ball. It was recovered by FS Will Hill. Seattle would later score on an 11 yard slant pass to Kevin Norwood.
Halftime
Seattle Seahawks: 21
San Diego Chargers: 3
The second half it was all Seattle. On the opening kickoff, rookie speedster Paul Richardson returned the kick 87 yards for a touchdown. Later in the quarter, with Tavaris Jackson rolling to his right, he would find Ricardo Lockette on a 35 yard TD strike. Early in the fourth, San Diego QB Kellen Clemens threw a screen pass to Danny Woodhead, who got slammed by newly signed free agent safety Will Hill and fumbled, to be recovered by KJ Wright. After a 30 yard burst by Robert Turbin, second year RB Christine Michael would run it in from 13 yards out. Near the end of the fourth, on a third down and 3, Seattle ran the triple option, and fullback Spencer Ware took the pitch from Jackson and ran it all the way to the end zone for a 71 yard touchdown.

Preseason Week 1

Final Score:
[0-1] Buffalo Bills 13
[1-0] Carolina Panthers 17

The Panthers get the win on the back of QB Joe Webb's (who's battling with Derek Anderson for the #2 job behind Cam Newton) 4th quarter heroics, 17-13. In the game, the Panthers offense didn't start the preseason by coming out firing as Owner Mister Future had wanted. Instead, they were pedestrian, with each of the 3 QBs throwing an INT and the highest completion % being Derek Anderson's 56% (50% for Newton, 45% for Webb).

On the ground, HB Deangelo Williams had an okay game with 73 yards on 12 carries, but a fumble marred his otherwise good performance. Of the Panthers Wide Outs, only 1 showed any flash, and that was 10-year pro Jerricho Cotchery who had 5 catches for 98 yards and 2 TDs and proved the go to guy over higher-considered Jason Avant and rookie Kelvin Benjamin.

The Panthers defense proved ready for the season, holding the Bills to just 13 points, and recording 7 TFLs, 2 Sacks, 2 INTs, and a Fum Recovery.

Preseason Week 2

Final Score
[2-0] Kansas City Chiefs 19
[1-1] Carolina Panthers 7

If the Panthers offense didn't "Come Out Firing" last week, they didn't even "Come Out" at all this week. All game they struggled to do anything. Cam Newton only managed 20 yards on 2/6 passing in his quarter of play. The battle for the #2 QB spot wasn't anything to leave the team with confidence, as Derek Anderson was knocked out of the game with an injury after just 2 attempts, and Joe Webb was unable to take advantage of additional snaps, as he threw 3 INTs and no TDs

The Panthers were never able to get a ground game going, with HB Johnathan Stewert leading the team with 4 carries for 25 yards (21 yards came on 1 play) and a TD all game. 2nd string TE hopeful Ed Dickson was the only receiver who showed up this game, catching 4 passes for 60 yards. The Panthers pass catchers need to step up, BIG TIME.

Once again, the Panthers Defense was the only thing that kept this game from being a blowout, shutting down the Chiefs run game and harrassing the Chiefs QBs. However, they struggled getting the opposing offense off the field on 3rd downs, time and time again allowing conversions that sustained the Chiefs drives.

Regular Season Week 1

Panthers In Disarray!

"Offense? What's that? Defense? Never heard of it!"

Is Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon the best QB in the NFL? An MVP canidate? That's a question no one in their right mind should be asking, but it's the only explaination for how the Panthers allowed him to complete a perfect 27/27 passes on the day for 291 yards and 2 TDs. The Panthers never once came close to intercepting or deflecting a pass and were repeatedly burned to the point where it was even a wonder why the Bucs bothered running the ball at all.

But that might've been because the Panthers couldn't stop the run either, allowing HB Doug Martin to gouge them for 129 yards and a TD on the ground.

On offense, the Panthers run game looked like it would've been a game-changer, with HBs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart combining for 99 yards on 13 carries and QB Cam Newton adding 39 on 2 carries, but turnovers by Newton (3 INTs) and the offenses inability to convert on 3rd down kept the Panthers scoreless until the 4th quarter.

Even then the Panthers still had a chance, as they managed to close the score to within 1 possession after scoring a TD with 9:24 left in the game and the score at 16-0 for the Bucs. However, a failed 2pt resulted in a 16-6 score that soon became 23-6 (7:55), and then 23-13 (2:11), and then 30-13 (1:09) as the Bucs never let up, scoring a rushing TD with under 2 mins to play and the Panthers out of Time Outs.

Are the Panthers the worst team in the league? That's yet to be decided, but they definitely have to be the worst team of Week 1

Regular Season Week 1

Final Score: Colts 30 vs Broncos 27

Game of the Week ends in Overtime Thriller!
The game of the week started off with the Colts electing to kickoff to the great Peyton Manning. Manning struggled in the first half. Only leading 2 scoring drives, one that led to a field goal. Andrew Luck came out hot. Hitting receivers all over the field and with under a minute left in the 1st half he threw a touchdown in the left corner of the endzone to young wideout T.Y. Hilton! The Colts went into the half with a 24-10 lead over the hottest team in the AFC! What excited Colts fans most was the fact that their hot offense would get the ball to start the 2nd half. They would have a chance to score and ice any chance the Broncos would have of a comeback.

Andrew luck started the 2nd half hot, but would end up making a key mistake in the game. A pass across the middle intended for Reggie Wayne would be picked off! Manning took advantage of the turnover and led his team to a score. Cutting it to a one score game. 24-17. The Colts would go three and out on their next drive. Having to give the ball and momentum back to the Broncos. Peyton Manning, feeding off of the fans in the stadium, delivered a HUGE blow to Colt faithful. He led a 6 minute drive that he capped off by hitting Julius Thomas for a 5 yard touchdown! This drive led the game into the 4th quarter. Luck, on the biggest stage of week 1, in front of millions watching orchestrated a beautiful drive. They were held to 3 points, but they took 7 minutes off of the clock. Manning and the Broncos would receive the ball with 1:38 left in the game. Tension was high for both teams on that final drive of the 4th. A few big third downs were converted and with 12 seconds left with the Broncos 8 yards from the endzone, Manning was sacked! Broncos had to burn their last time out. "Matt Prater lines up to kick the 23 yard field goal.....The snap.....the hold.....the kick......HE GOT IT!!!" Prater, like many times before had come through for his team. The game was going into overtime.

Colts won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball. Luck was shaky on the opening drive. Only being 22 yards away from a possible field goal try, Luck threw left and was PICKED off! This was it. A hot Broncos team with all the momentum was surely going to end the game. "Manning drops back to pass, looking, looking, firing to the right side. He's got Emmanuel Sanders for a 27 yard pick up!" The Broncos ran the ball on the next play for only a few. Very next play, only 15-20 yards out from a guaranteed game winning field goal. "Manning drops back. Scanning the field. Throws right....its......PICKED OFF!!!!! Corey Lynch has brought the Colts into Bronco territory! The stadium was buzzing. Manning made his first and only crucial mistake of the night. A mistake that would cost him the chance of being the 2nd QB ever to say they have beaten all 32 teams. "Vinatieri lines up to kick this 29 yard field goal. You gotta believe he doesnt feel any nerves after kicking two superbowl winning field goals. The snap is on its way...the hold......the kick is up aaaannndddd ......ITS GOOD!!!! COLTS WIN COLTS WIN!!!! That is how the first sunday night game of the year ended. What a game!

Regular Season Week 1
Green Bay Packers (0-0) at
Seattle Seahawks (0-0)

It was a cool night at CenturyLink field in Seattle, Washington. The 12s were out and they sure we're loud. Green Bay won the toss and elected to receive. Aaron Rodgers led the Packers down the field on the opening drive for a 35 yard field goal. Seattle would come back with a field goal of their own near the end of the first quarter, tying the game at three apiece. The Packers got the ball back. On a second and 10, Jordy Nelson caught the ball on a curl route, turned, and ran face first into Richard Sherman, who poked the ball free to be recovered by Bobby Wagner. On the very first play, Marshawn Lynch took the handoff on a run up the middle, cut outside, and ran around the safety HaHa Clinton-Dix for a 43 yard score. The packers would go three and out and punted to a waiting Percy Harvin, who got the ok from coach Pete Carroll to return punts over teammate, Earl Thomas. Harvin caught the punt, juked a diving defender, and ran upfield, hurdling over the punter Tim Masthay's attempted tackle and in for a
69 yard touchdown. On the ensuing drive, Rodgers would lead the packers down to the Seattle 5 yard line before throwing a goal line interception to Richard Sherman on an attempted fade route to Jordy Nelson. This was the story all night, with coach Mike McCarthy not afraid to throw at. Sherman. Most of the night Jordy got it done, totaling 7 receptions for 96 yards. But on a few occasions Sherman made him pay, like on the fumble and the goal line interception.

Halftime
Green Bay Packers: 3
Seattle Seahawks: 17

Russell Wilson led the seahawks into the red zone on the opening drive of the second half. On a second and 8 pass he threw the ball over the outstretched hands of Jermaine Kearse who was running a post route and into the hands of safety Clinton-Dix. Rodgers and the pack went three and out, and this time Masthay was careful to punt the ball out of bounds and out of the hands of Harvin. Wilson would again lead the seahawks into the red zone only to throw another pick on an attempted curl route to CB Morgan Burnett. Green Bay drove down the field to start the fourth quarter. On a third and 16 play, the seahawks read the screen perfectly, and a hesistant Rodgers was all but sacked by the Seattle lineman when he emerged from a pile of big men still upright. He lobbed the ball to Starks
who was still in the flat waiting for the screen pass and ran down to the Seattle 1 before Kam Chancellor made a touchdown saint tackle. A few plays later on third and 1 Starks would stuff the ball in for a touchdown. Wilson led the hawks down the field. On a third and 10 at midfield, he threw a pass to TE Zach Miller on a wheel route, double covered, the ball tipped off of Miller's hands and into the diving grasp of Jermaine Kearse, making a spectacular play and keeping the drive alive. Wilson would later connect with Harvin on a slant for a 12 yard touchdown. Rodgers took the packers back into the red zone. After being sacked on third down, and losing by 14, McCarthy gave the ok to the offense on 4th and 14. Rodgers threw up a duck to Jarrett Boykin who was covered by both Byron Maxwell and Earl Thomas on a wheel route, yet Boykin managed to make the grab. After being sacked again, for the ninth time of the night, Rodgers connected with former Seattle fourth round pick out of Kansas State WR Chris Harper, wide open in the corner of the end zone for a 17 yard touchdown. Down by 7 with three timeouts, Crosby kicked an onside kick, but the seahawks ROLb Kevin Pierre Louis recovered and ran for 10 yards, into field goal range. Marshawn Lynch was stopped on first and second, the packers using two timeouts to stop the clock. On third and 8 marshawn ran up the gut, juked the linebacker and trucked over Clinton-Dix when he fell right around the first down marker. The chain gang came out to measure and he was determined to be inches short. Hauschka came out for the 44 yard fg attempt to seal the deal, put it up, and the kick HIT THE BAR. The football bounced off the bar straight up, back off of the bar, and back behind the upright. The kick was GOOD. Seattle was up 10, and Green Bay would have no luck with a drive.

Week 1
Washington Redskins 0-0 (SoAndSo)
vs
Houston Texans 0-0 (CPU)

My bad for the weak write up but I'm hella busy now...

Desean Jackson returned the opening kickoff for 96 yards for the game’s first touchdown.

Ryan Fitzpatrick led the Texans 78 yards in 5 plays to tie the game.

Desean Jackson returned the very next kickoff for another 96 yards (192 total on 2 kick returns) to regain the lead, 14 - 7.

Texans went 3 & out.

Redskins kicked a fieldgoal, 17-7.

Texans drove 75 yards in 11 plays to close the gap, 17-14.

The Texans opened the second half with a long drive to go back down by 3, 24-21.

On the ensuing drive, Meriweather forces a fumble as Orakpo recovers, Washington ball.

The Skins expand their lead by driving 52 yards on 5 plays, 38-21.

Houston drove all the way down to the 13 & on 4th & 5, they completed a pass for a 1st down, but ended up fumbling it again, recovered by the Skins.

Regular Season Week 1:

Oakland Raiders @
New York Jets

It was a great day for football - not a cloud in the sky - at Metlife Stadium as the first Sunday of football commenced. The New York Jets wore all white as part of the “White Out” promotion for the first game of the regular season.

Oakland won the toss and elected to receive.

A successful drive for Oakland started off the day, as a blown coverage on 3rd and long led to a 52 yard TD pass from Matt Schaub to Denarius Moore. The favour was returned, however, as on the very first play from scrimmage for the Jets, a slant play to Jeremy Kerley turned into an 80 yd TD as the shifty receiver slips threw 3 Raiders defenders for the score.

In the very eventful first quarter, the next drive was not as successful for the Raiders as Schaub made a bad decision that Darrin Walls made him regret. The forced throw lead to a 66 yd interception return for a Pick-6.

The Jets d-line was very active as they had 4 sacks in the first half. Another blown coverage lead to the Raiders taking a 17-14 lead just after the 2 minute warning. CJ2K would respond by breaking free for a 58 TD run before the half.

The second half opened with much as the same, as Geno Smith escaped for a 55 yard TD run to open up a 28-17 lead early in the 3rd. A missed field goal by Janikowski lead to the Jets starting off the 4th quarter with great field position. NY would make no mistake, as a time consuming drive capped off by a short TD run from Chris Ivory ices it at 35-17.

Late in the game, Schaub would cap off another impressive drive with a TD throw, but it was too little too late, as even by recovering an onside and leading another TD drive, the Raiders suffered a 35-30 loss on the opening weekend of the season.

While Schaub played spectacularly, completing over 90% of his passes, the raiders inability to score points to cap off drives is what cost them.

On the opening drive the Cowboys D set the tone, forcing the Titans to go 3 & out. Tony Romo & the Cowboys offense made quick work of the Titans D scoring in just 2 plays thanks to a 36 yd TD connection between Romo and Witten. After a pretty much quiet 2nd qtr for the Cowboys Trent Richardson scored his 1st TD as a Cowboy in his debut in the final minute of the qtr. Cowboys led 14-10 at the half. Trent Richardson opened up the 2nd half with a 70 yd rushing TD giving Dallas a 21-10 lead.

The Titans took a major blow to start off the 2nd half after losing Jake Locker for 8 weeks due to a fractured foot. At the end of the 3rd the Cowboys led 21-13. Tony Romo & the Cowboys secured the victory connecting on a 3 yd TD completion with less than 5 mins remaining.

Final Score: Cowboys 28 Titans 20

Early in the game, it was clear that Rex Ryan would have to get creative in the fly against Aaron Rodgers. An early drive highlighted Rodgers abilities as he opened up a 7-0 lead for the pack. His success continued as after a 3 and out for the jets, he promptly put Green Bay up 2 scores. The rest of the half would see much more of the same, as the jets ability to control the ball for any lengthy period of time leads to a 28-0 lead at the half. The jets scored a TD to open up the second half, but that was as close as they'd get. Rodgers was able to ice the game by slicing up the jets secondary. He ended up with 5 passing tds and 0 interceptions as they blow out the New York Jets 41-15
