Atlanta beats Carolina 26-14 on road
It was a critical Game for the NFC south and, in some respects, it's outcome provides Clarity to the race for the crown while, on the other hand, it only muddies things up. The falcons jumped out to a 20-0 lead at halftime, led by a strong defense that forced Cam Newton into 2 interceptions and a sharp matt ryan (144.0 passer rating, 2 tds, 304 yards) and an explosive JJ (5 rec, 79 yards, 1 td). Desmond Trufant notched his 9th pick on the year while both of the starting safeties got the best of cam as well. The 2nd half was a much different tale, as Carolina outscored atlanta 14-6, but the comeback couldn't be completed due to key defensive plays and a handful of big plays from the offense. A major takeaway from this game is how atlanta could not run the ball with either Devonta Freeman or Tevin Coleman. Both backs were completely shut down, and the rush D was a major reason why atlanta couldn't put this one out of reach. With this win, the Falcons are 10-3, leading the division, and in control of their destiny. They finish out the year at Jacksonville, then at home again't Carolina and new Orleans. Win all 3, and they're in the postseason, potentially holding a first round bye. But even a minor slip-up could allow Tampa Bay (9-4) to claim the title, and Carolina isn't even out of it at 8-5. The final 3 weeks will tell us who has the most grit out of these 3 squads on their Rollercoaster ride.
