Falcons leave LA with Disappointment after OT Thriller and a Major Injury.

After a narrow victory vs. the Chiefs, the 8-4 division leading Falcons go to LA to expand their lead in the NFC South.

First Half:
After an opening 3 and out by the Rams, the Falcons take possession with a strong opening drive(despite a recovered first play fumble by Freeman)…..just to miss a 41 Yard Field Goal after a 10 sack of QB Ryan.

After some back and forth and the first of three interceptions of Ryan, The Falcons D hold the Rams on the 27 on third and inches but allow the Rams take the lead 6-0 with 4 minutes left in the half. With a short field, Ryan to Jones connects on 2 and 12 after Jones shakes free of the defender putting on the pressure.

Rams, with 2 minutes left march, down the field in a hurry up that made Rams QB Goff look like the second coming of Kurt Warner. Somehow, the Falcons D step up to hold the Rams on the Falcons 42 yards line. In a moment that Atlanta Coach Dan Quinn will regret the rest of his life, the Rams sneak a Punk Fake for 20 yards setting up a Touchdown pass from Goff to Austin putting the Rams up 13-7 at the half.

Second Half:
With the Rams tough Run defense, Ryan takes to the air. Hitting passes to Veteran Hartline, Sanu, TE Tamme, and Jones…..but not without major pressure from the Rams D Line. Ryan was sacked for lost yardage on multiple second downs. After another big drive, Falcons have to settle for a FG after another Sack in the redzone by the Rams Defense. Another long drive and FG by the Rams (resulting a Goff Injury), Ryan Hits a 46 Yard slant to Jones who shook off 2 Tacklers to take it to the House taking the score to 17-16 with 6 minutes left in the 4th.

Drama in the Final Minutes:
Here is when things went insane and had the crowd on their feet:

Replacing injured Goff, Case Keenum marches down the allowing a TD run by Coleman setting up a 2 point conversion putting the Rams up 24-17 with 2 minutes left. Determined to take advantage of their weak secondary, Ryan surgically dissects the Rams D but Throws an mistimed pass resulting in a Interception on the Rams 17 yard line.

Depending on the Falcons Defense and with all three time outs, the Falcons stop the conservative play calling by Rams coach Fisher, allowing the Falcons to get the ball back with limited time and the ball at the Rams 35. In a bittersweet play for the Falcons, Ryan hits Jones to get the team to the 1….while taking Jones out of the game with a broken collarbone. Ryan hits Tamme and time expires and sends this already exciting game into overtime!

Overtime:
Rams get possession to start OT and fail to convert. Falcons take over on the their own 20 but fail to move the ball more than 9 yards. Keenum passes quick and sets up a 42 yard run for Mason, allowing the Rams to get the go-ahead Field goal and win in Overtime. A long plane ride home for the Falcons and the loss of Jones for Rest of the regular season makes locking the NFC South far from a sure thing for the Dirty Birds. Atlanta faces the top ranked 49'ers next week followed by division rivals who want revenge- Panthers and Saints. Coach Dan Quinn hopes to clinch the division this week while praying his best player heals in time for the playoffs!
