Detroit Lions Advance to 2-0

Week Two Recap:
The Lions improved to 2-0 with their win against the Titans this week. There are some positives and some negatives to take away from this game. It will be interesting to see how they choose to solve these issues.

Offense:

The Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has not done a very good job this season. His decision making has been highly questionable and the interceptions became an issue in this last game. He ended the game 14-24 with 150 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. He was able to get some production but if the Lions are going to be successful this season he is going to have to become more consistent and make better decisions in the pocket.

Luckily for Matthew Stafford his receivers came to play today. Marvin Jones had three catches for 26 yards and two touchdowns. On his last touchdown he made a nice move by spinning past multiple defenders and leaving them in the dust. Corey Fuller also made a beautiful catch on a fade in the red zone. It was a bad throw by Stafford and Fuller just made an incredible play on the ball.

The running backs were very average today. They did not do anything to break the game open but they did not make any mind boggling mistakes either. Just a very steady game. If Stafford's struggles continue the running game will have to step up however.

Defense:

The defense has carried the Lions through this season so far. Thought to be a weakness for this team they have been very consistent in limiting the opposing teams weapons and putting points on the board. Miles Killebrew continued his impressive early season performance by gaining 8 tackles. The Lions knew they would have their hands full with Demarco Murray and Derrick Henry this week, and Miles Killebrew was a major factor in slowing down the running game.

Ziggy Ansah continued his dominance this week as well. He had 3 tackles for a loss on some very key plays. This set the Titans up for longer distances and forced them to use their passing game. There were some lapses in coverage but got bailed out by Mariota's sketchy accuracy.

Zaviar Gooden, the Lions 4th string middle linebacker has been making a very strong case for more playing time. He had an interception and a fumble forced in today's game. Tavon Wilson ended up picking up the fumble that Gooden forced and took it all the way to the end zone to open the second half. This proved to be a major play in determining the outcome of this game.

The Bad News

We do have some very bad news for our loyal Lions fans. Golden Tate was having a productive game against the Titans today but then went down with an abdominal injury. The Lions decided to hold him out for the rest of the game as a precaution. We just got word that he has suffered an abdominal tear and will be out for the next 5 weeks. The Lions will look to Anquan Boldin and Corey Fuller to step up and pick up some of the slack. We will find out very soon if Marvin Jones is capable of being a number one receiver. Jagermeissster did inform us that he will be scouring free agency and the waivers to see if there are any potential receivers that can provide some depth in case another injury occurs.

Looking Forward

The injury to Golden Tate is a huge blow to this team. There were many questions about what kind of quarterback Matthew Stafford would be without Calvin Johnson, and the answer so far is not one that we were looking forward too. They will look to ride their defense through these next couple games until they can get Tate back. Hopefully someone steps up and can lead this offense.

PS: Pictures will return to my article next week, unfortunately while reporting at the game A'shawn Robinson sat on my phone and destroyed it just like he destroys the run game. We will get the pictures back up next week! Until next time Lions fans!
