The 2015 Chargers are 4 and 4. 4 wins. 4 losses. Even. 500. Nothing special to look at. Even under new leadership they look the same. The same team that is at the middle of their division. No spark to their charge.
But, there is hope...
Chargers are currently in second place in their division a game behind Denver and and a half game ahead of Arizona. There is hope that if they can get a couple of wins they can make it to the playoffs. If they make it to the playoffs for the first year under new leadership that would be quite a success.
And, there is more hope...

The Chargers wasted no time in resigning Eric Weddle. The 30 year old Free Safety from Utah has agreed to a 6 year $66M contract. This price may be a bit high for a 30 year old defender. But the defense needs help and the Chargers are hoping Weddle and the Beard bring it!

The defense has put up interesting numbers. They are 4th in run defense with an average of 65 yards per game and 9th in pass with an average of 291 yards per game. Great numbers, right? Wrong. But they are not good enough as they don't tell the whole picture. The Chargers have given up an average of 25 points per game and are in 18th place. This is what is killing them. Unable to get teams off the field in medium to long 3rd down conversions. My neighborhood Highschool team can probably convert 3rd and long on these guys. This must change if they hope to make it to the playoffs and get past the first round.

The offense has put up interesting numbers as well. The running numbers are practically dead last. There have got to be back up running backs with a better average than what the Chargers are doing. Horrible. This has got to change. Must run the ball better! Melvin Gordon was a beast in college, surely some of that spark can help the dry rushing offense of the Chargers.
The passing yards look great, right? Well, that's until you look at the turnovers, the picks, the give-aways, the blue light special. This must stop. Rivers has 17 INTs to 17 TDs and has an average QB rating of 89.1 and will NEVER be in the conversation as best QB in the league with those kinds of numbers. Frankly, the Chargers won't make it to the play offs if those numbers continue. Horrible. Tastes like charred marshmallows rolled in the dirt, dipped in dog poop. Looks horrible, smells horrible, tastes horrible - must be horrible.
The future of the team may reside in their resiliency to not give up as evidenced by their last game against the Baltimore Ravens.
The young SS, Jimmy Wilson, had his 3rd pick in the season. If they can get more production like this out of their FS, then maybe there is a chance.

However, tied 10-10 with under a minute in the fourth. Rivers is completing a drive that started inside their own 20 and he's driving. 1st and 10 at the opponents 35 the Chargers give up their 3rd sack of the game and are now faced with 2nd and 17 with 45 seconds left. Rivers hits Stevie Johnson on an underneath route for 7 to get them to a manageable 3rd and 10 with the game tied and 24 seconds left. Then it happens.........
Rivers drops back. Ravens bring the blitz. Rivers looks and finds what looks like a wide open Stevie Johnson

and then....he catches it in stride and waltzes into the endzone for the go ahead score!

Yes, this was against the 2 and 5 Ravens. But the Chargers found a way to win. If they can keep this up, then maybe they'll truly have hope and Charge into the Playoffs. Go Chargers!
