Hello Jaguar fans it's that time again! The Jags made it to the divisional round last year where they were defeated by the division rival Houston Texans. They will look to build more on that this year, and make their third consecutive trip to the playoffs. There's a lot that has changed in the offseason, and a lot to look forward to. One of the biggest storylines coming out of the offseason was the departure of Allen Hurns. We will also go over the draft, and a few other stories leading into the season!

Hurns Moves North

In a real surprising move, the Jaguars trade Allen Hurns to the Detroit Lions on a draft day deal. This was big news as Hurns was a massive part of this Jaguars offense. He used to line up opposite of Allen Robinson, but now looks to be the leader of the receiving core in Detroit. Jacksonville received the Lions 2nd and 5th round pick, and also moved up 4 spots in the 4th round. WR Noah Brown, DT Kentavious Street, and LT Jamarco Jones respectively. Brown and Jones are huge picks. They played together at Ohio St. University. Brown looks to be a future replacement for Hurns, and Jones has the potential to be a powerhouse OT after learning from Kelvin Beachum for a year or two. As for now it looks like Albert Wilson will take over the WR2 spot. Wilson was traded to Jacksonville back in 2016 for OL Luke Bowanko.

Brandon Davis Is Back

The 2nd year HB Brandon Davis looks to make his return. He led the charge after Yeldon broke his collarbone in week 2 last year. He racked up 500+ yards and 7 TD's and was a fan favorite. He isn't very flashy, and most likely won't win a footrace, but just don't get in front of him. He is the big bruising back that works out of the #2 spot. He ended up fracturing his wrist in week 10 last year and that effectively ended his season. He has done nothing but rehab that wrist and upping his workouts and looks to be ready for this season!

Bortles Cashes In

It took almost all season to get a contract together but Bortles wins and gets the 4 year extension worth $60M. He has led the team to the playoffs in back to back years and won 11 games straight last season. Owner Chris Bigtex finally decided that was good enough to give Bortles his big contract. Was it worth it? That remains to be seen. He is signed through the 2021 season which will keep him under contract until he is 29. The plan is to win a Super Bowl with him at the helm in that 4 year period. He has the where withal to get there. He's young, smart, and athletic. His consistency could use some work as he sometimes makes some questionable throws, but that can be taught. He possesses the intangibles.
