14 Yankees - Expos Trade - VETOED

The New York Yankees have agreed to trade SP Matt Wickswat, RP Carter Capps, RP prospect Robert Gsellman for OF Whit Merrifield. The Yankees hope to acquire Merrifield to give their outfield a bit more consistency when it comes to the plate as current starting LF Jeremy Hermida has hit a measly .221 last season and .216 the season before and the Yankees hope to use him as more of a defensive sub while Merrifield starts. They agree to send Capps, a very talented relief pitcher who just hasn't clicked during his time in New York and the Yankees believe they are a better team if they keep Ken Giles so a fresh start might be good for him. Wickswat has been a long relief pitcher and was on the bubble about getting a starting spot for the Yankees and Gsellman, the team's fourth best prospect, is still a season or two from being ready.

The Expos make this trade hoping to to help their farm system as well as their bullpen and open up some room for their young outfield to come up and compete.

No, IMO. Wickswat is a #5 at best and Gsellman doesn't look that great either. Low stamina and sidearm splits so him as a starter would be rough. Capps is phenomenal, but Merrifield is a 5 WAR OF with 3 years of team control left. The value just isn't there for me.

I agree. I'd like to see more value for an All-Star LF than three relievers. I vote no as well.
