Orioles are seeking to trade SS Felipe Lopez and SP Osiris Matos for Met's players SS Manny Machado and SP Hyun-jin Ryu.
Orioles have a lot of salary tied up in Lopez that we realize would be better spent on fixing our bullpen issues immediately and investing into the infield over the next two seasons and keeping our outfield competitive immediately. The Orioles believe that the cornerstone of our team is our C Morneau and would like to spent the salary spent on Lopez to develop other positions. The Mets lack an elite vet on the field and Lopez fills their need for an elite vet on their team. Machado appears to be an elite defensive prospect with above average hitting and would fit into the Orioles long term plan and Ryu fills our immediate need for anything over a mid rotation pitcher. Matos would be a solid mid to top rotation on the Mets current roster and Lopez would immediately slot in at the #1 slot for their SS and be an elite slugger for them based on previous seasons. This would allow the Orioles to invest more money into their infield with Machado possibly transitioning to 3B if a solid SS prospect appears for the Orioles and allow us to keep our FA OF signings on past the current season to bye time to develop our AAA and AA OF talent.Lopez.pngMachado.pngMatos.pngRyu.png

I have to vote no on this. The Mets only have 10 mil in space with their budget/cash. They also just picked 3rd last year and aren't in a win now spot, so why would they trade two young building blocks for an older superstar making a TON of money? Lopez is fantastic but this just makes zero sense for the Mets to do to me.
